How to fix Google Pixel 2 with Twitter app that keeps crashing

Applications often crash especially if there are a lot of them running in the background. While the crashing problem is a minor one, it’s pretty annoying because there are times when you really can’t use the app due to an error or because it closes immediately after opening. If the one you’re having issues with is a third-party app, then don’t worry too much because you can easily fix it. In fact, you can just uninstall it and the problem will go away but then again you won’t be able to use the app anymore. But that’s not what this article is all about. We want to help you fix the problem so that you can continue using the app. So, if you’re one of the owners of this phone and are currently bugged by a similar issue, here are the things you can do:

First solution: Reboot your phone

If this is the first time you’re having this problem, then it’s possible that it’s just a result of a minor glitch in the system or the app itself. Glitches can easily be fixed by a restart that’s why you need to do that first before anything else.

After the reboot, try to open Twitter to know if it still crashes or not. If it still does, I suggest you try doing the Forced Restart procedure before moving on to the next solution.

The forced restart is a lot more effective than the normal reboot as it simulates battery disconnect, refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads all apps and services. Press both the volume down and power keys at the sametime and then hold them down together for 10 seconds or more. Your phone will reboot and after that, open twitter to confirm if the problem is fixed. If it remains, then try the next solution.

Second solution: Clear Twitter’s cache and data

The possibility that this is just a problem with the app is still high that’s why you need to do this procedure. What it does is reset the app back to its default settings or configuration. App problems can be fixed by this procedure so you should do this to your phone before trying other solutions. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow Up icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap See all xx apps.
  4. Locate then select Twitter.
  5. Tap Force stop.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache.
  9. Tap Clear data.
  10. Tap OK.

After this, open Twitter to know if it still crashes or shows the error message. If the problem continues, then you will have to do the next procedure.

Third solution: Uninstall Twitter and reinstall it

While there are times when updating the app would be enough to address possible compatibility issues, in this case, I would suggest uninstalling Twitter from your phone to remove all its associations with other apps and the firmware. Then download it from the Play Store to make sure you have the latest Twitter version on your device.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications .
  3. Tap See all ‘xx’ apps.
  4. Tap Twitter.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap OK to confirm.
  7. Open Play Store.
  8. Search for Twitter and select it.
  9. Tap Install.

More often than not, this should be the end of the problem. However, if it continues to bug you after doing all of this, then it’s possible that the problem isn’t with your phone but on the Twitter side.

Fourth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

I am confident that the first three solutions above are enough to fix this problem. However, if the app continues to crash every now and then, I suggest you take time backing up your files and data and resetting your phone. This will give your device a fresh start.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode.
  4. Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select.
  5. The device will flash the Google start screen momentarily and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  6. If presented with an image of a broken Android with “No Command” shown on the screen, press and hold the Power button. Press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  7. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  8. Select Yes and then allow several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.
  9. Select Reboot system now.
  10. Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
