How to fix Facebook that keeps crashing on Google Pixel 2 (easy fix)

More often than not, if this problem occurs, it’s just with the app and nothing serious. How to fix Pixel 2 with Facebook app that keeps crashing

Any problem that’s caused by a third-party application can easily be fixed. In fact, the immediate solution to this issue is to uninstall the app but then again, you won’t be able to use it anymore and if you have hundreds of friends at Facebook, you may not be able to interact using your phone. It’s better to troubleshoot your device in order to fix the problem and you may continue using the app. With that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about it:

First solution: Reboot your phone

If it’s the first time that you encountered the problem, it’s better to just reboot your phone first before moving on to other troubleshooting steps because there’s a chance that this problem is just a result of a firmware issue or a minor glitch. If a normal reboot doesn’t fix the problem, try doing the forced restart by pressing and holding both the volume down and power keys at the same time for 8 seconds. Your phone will restart like it normally does but its memory will be refreshed and all its apps and services will be reloaded. If Facebook continues to crash after this, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear cache and data of Facebook app

Doing this will reset the app back to its default settings or configuration. It will also delete the cache created by the system for the app as well as its temporary data files. If it’s just a problem with the app, then this procedure is more than enough to fix it.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow Up icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap See all xx apps.
  4. Locate then select Facebook.
  5. Tap Force stop.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Tap Clear cache.
  9. Tap Clear data.
  10. Tap OK.

After this, open Facebook to know if it still crashes or shows the error message. If the problem continues, then you will have to do the next procedure.

Third solution: Uninstall and reinstall Facebook

While there are times when updating the app would be enough to address possible compatibility issues, in this case, I would suggest uninstalling Facebook from your phone to remove all its associations with other apps and the firmware. Then download it from the Play Store to make sure you have the latest Facebook version on your device.

  1. From a Home screen, tap the Arrow icon to display all apps.
  2. Navigate: Settings > Apps & notifications .
  3. Tap See all ‘xx’ apps.
  4. Tap an app.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap OK to confirm.
  7. Open Play Store.
  8. Search for Facebook and select it.
  9. Tap Install.

More often than not, this should be the end of the problem. However, if it continues to bug you after doing all of this, then it’s possible that the problem isn’t with your phone but on the Facebook side. There have been a few downtimes that happened with Facebook so just try to wait for an hour or two. If the issue continues and you’re pretty sure it’s not an issue with Facebook, then a reset should be done.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power+Volume Down buttons until bootloader mode (image of an Android with Start above it) appears, then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode.
  4. Use the Volume buttons to cycle through the available options and the Power button to select.
  5. The device will flash the Google start screen momentarily and then restarts in Recovery mode.
  6. If presented with an image of a broken Android with “No Command” shown on the screen, press and hold the Power button. Press the Volume Up button once then release the Power button.
  7. From the Android Recovery screen, select Wipe data/factory reset.
  8. Select Yes and then allow several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.
  9. Select Reboot system now.
  10. Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
