What Is Cached Data And How To Clear It On Android Phones

The smartphones that we have today are powerful little mobile devices that can be compared to little computers that can fit into a pocket. Just like computers, it has several similar components such as a processor, memory, storage unit, and a power supply unit just to name a few. The smartphone also processes data the same way as your computer. In fact, most of the work done by a smartphone is processing data which is why you will often hear the term cached data.

What is cached data?

According to Wikipedia data is “is a set of values of qualitative or quantitative variables.” while cache is “a collection of data duplicating original values stored elsewhere on a computer, usually for easier access”.

Smartphone apps usually store data ( cached data) in certain memory locations of the phone. This allows the app to load the data faster. For instance, your phone browser will usually store the data of the webpage that you usually visit so that the next time you open the site it will load faster because the data is already stored in your phone and not on a remote server which needs to be downloaded.

Why is it important to clear the cached data?

In the long run, as the app in your phone stores a lot of cached data in your phone, this data has the tendency of getting corrupted. This will usually result in various issues that can be experienced with the device. Your phone might slow down in performance or it might just freeze or become unresponsive. To avoid these issues it is always best to regularly clear the cache data of your Android phone.
