J3 Runs Hot

Problem: Hey I need some help with my phone it keeps running hot even with a new battery in because my old battery just quit working out of nowhere that’s why my phone company sent me a new one and it won’t even charge my phone nor will it hold a charge. It just runs hot! Please help! what can I do?

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to check if a software glitch is causing the phone to run hot by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • If your phone has a microSD card then try removing it. The phone can get hot if this card is corrupted since it will have a hard time accessing the data stored in the card.
  • Try starting the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component. You should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J3 Screen Is Black But Still Receiving Text Messages

Problem: I have a Samsung j3, I can hear it receiving messages, and it will ring when called, but just has a black screen. When I turn it on part of the screen flickers very briefly, but then goes black. I have tried all of the resetting suggestions with holding different buttons down, but nothing works. Thanks in advance

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. To do this you have to start the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then I suggest that you perform a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. In case the screen still remains black even in recovery mode then there’s a possibility that we might be dealing with a damaged display. You will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

J3 Screen Is Black After Phone Got Dropped

Problem: I dropped my phone, and now the screen is completely black. There is some possible water damage since I was outside in tropical storm Harvey with my phone in my windbreaker pocket. Soon after I had dropped it, I saw flashes of color. Now, all I see is the black screen. Oddly, my phone is still vibrating occasionally letting me know of notifications. *I do not know my Android version, but according to the internet, my model is either Lollipop or Marshmallow. Thank you for your help!

Solution: This is a similar issue as the one we have addressed above. However, since your phone got wet then you should turn it off and wipe it dry. Once this is done place it in a bag of rice for at least 48 hours. After this, start the phone in recovery mode. If the screen works in this mode then you will have to do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. If the screen does not work then there’s a possibility that the display is damaged. You will then need to bring this phone to a service center and have it checked.

J3 Screen Is Cracked

Problem: My phone was badly cracked, and i think that i accidentally pushed too hard at the place of the crack. The spot that i had pushed too hard turned black for a couple of seconds, and then lines showed up like if a tv had been shattered. Then, it just turned black.

Solution: Unfortunately since the display has already been damaged you will need to have this replaced in order for the phone to work properly again. You should bring your phone to a service center and have them replace the display.

J3 White Line On Screen

Problem: I have a Samsung J3 and earlier today I turned on my phone and there was a thin white line on the left side, that’s not there in screenshots, so about 2 hours later, I hadn’t been using my phone, and when I checked this time it was taking up nearly half of the screen, so I started googling how I could fix it, I took out the battery for awhile, that didn’t work, I held down the power button, home button, and volume down button, nope, so I tried doing a factory reset, waited 10 minutes, nothing. And an hour later I checked it again, and when I clicked the home button and the power button, I could hear a Siri like voice saying “Screen on” “Screen off” But I can’t see the screen.

Solution: If the white line still appears even after a factory reset then there’s a chance that the display is already damaged. You need to have this checked at a service center.

J3 Photos Have Exclamation Mark

Problem: Hi. I took some photos on my Samsung Galaxy J3 yesterday. They were fine when I looked at them on the train home, changing quite a few of them from portrait to landscape. But this morning a lot of them don’t show except for a thick white box with an exclamation mark..saying they are not ‘supported’ on my device. I have tried downloading a ADX (or something like that!) Mirror App but no change. I’ve also tried a soft reboot. Do you have any suggestions?

Solution: The exclamation mark in the photos mean that they are corrupted. Are the photos you edited stored in the microSD card of the phone? If they are then try removing the microSD card then let your computer read it. You will need a card reader to do this. In case the computer can’t read the photos then these photos are corrupt. To prevent this from happening again I recommend that you get a new microSD card.

In case the photos are stored in the phone’s internal storage then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the photos can be viewed. If they are viewable then I suggest you make a backup copy immediately.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you can try to use a data recovery program to fix the corrupted photos.

J3 Software Update Available

Problem: This afternoon I received a message saying my phone needed a software update. It said when it pops up to press install. Tonight, in the notification bar it showed it was downloading a software update. Then a box popped up on my screen that said I needed to install the new update. I have the option to install or postpone. When the box is up I cannot do anything with my phone until I press something. I pressed postpone.

Solution: If you press on postpone then the installation of the update will be pushed at a later time. When the pop up appears again just tap on install so that your phone software will be updated.
