How to fix Galaxy S8 Plus with Black Screen of Death after Oreo Update


The black screen issue may seem like a very serious hardware problem because the phone no longer responds but in reality or most of the time, it’s just a minor issue with the firmware which may have been triggered by the new update. In other words, you don’t need a technician to make your device respond again. As a matter of fact, you only need to do a couple of things to make your phone work perfectly again.

First solution: Force restart your Galaxy S8 Plus

This must be the first thing you should do because when it comes to black screen issues, this is the ultimate solution. In fact, it might be the only thing you need to do to bring your Galaxy S8 Plus back to life. If you’re familiar with the battery pull we often do to phones with removable batteries, this is the equivalent of it.

  • Press and hold the volume down and the power keys together for 10 seconds or more.

Doing this will trigger your phone to reboot normally but in the background, all apps, services and core functions are also reloaded to refresh your phone’s memory and make it respond. Second solution: Charge and Force Restart

You need to do this procedure to rule out the possibility that the problem is caused by both a drained battery and system crash. When the battery is already at a very low level and you’re still using the phone, the juice may run out with the phone still being used and this will result to a system crash as the hardware and firmware aren’t properly shut down. So, you’re actually dealing with a couple of issues here instead of one.

I said that your phone will always respond when the Volume Down and Power keys are held together for a certain amount of time but if the battery is drained, there’s no way your phone will actually turn on. So, try doing this:

  1. Plug the charger to a working AC outlet. Use a wired charger for this.
  2. Using the original cable, connect your phone to its charger.
  3. Regardless whether your Galaxy S8 Plus shows the charging signs or not, leave it connected to its charger for 10 minutes.
  4. Now, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it.
  5. While holding it down, press and hold the Power key.
  6. Keep both keys held down for 10 seconds or more.
