When describing your issue, please be as detailed as possible so we can easily pinpoint a relevant solution. If you can, kindly include the exact error messages you are getting to give us an idea where to start. If you have already tried some troubleshooting steps before emailing us, make sure to mention them so we can skip them in our answers.
Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:
Problem 1: Galaxy S6 popup keeps saying “no internet connection,” preventing screen from sleeping
I own a Samsung Galaxy S6. Currently, it is connected to the Internet via a wi-fi connection, and not through my mobile network. However, no matter which way I choose to connect, I still have a small gray bubble popping up on my Z-M row on the keyboard, saying “No Internet Connection.” It not only prevents me from using my keyboard efficiently, it also happens every 3-5 seconds, and is preventing my screen from automatically timing out. Restarting my phone has not prevented the pop up window. What should be my next step? — Jeffrey Greene
Solution: Hi Jeffrey. Are you using a third party keyboard app, which means not the native Samsung keyboard app or that of Google’s? If yes, try using either the Samsung keyboard or Google keyboard. You can do that by going under Settings>General management>Language and input>Default keyboard.
Sometimes, the screen overlay feature of some apps can cause an issue like this so make sure that you check that as well. Here’s how:
- Launch Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap More options icon at the upper right hand side.
- Tap Show system apps.
- Find the keyboard app you’re using and tap it.
- Scroll down to the bottom and look under Advanced section for Apps that can appear on top. If it’s on, try to turn it to OFF. Not all apps has screen overlay capability. If you can’t find Apps that can appear on top section, that means that the keyboard app you’re using has no such feature.
Finally, if the issue still continues after doing the steps above, we suggest that you wipe the phone clean via factory reset. Here’s how:
- Back all your personal data up.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
- Set up the phone again and right away test the keyboard. Make sure that you don’t install anything at this point. If the standard Samsung keyboard works fine, that means that the problem was probably introduced after you’ve installed an app or update.
- Reinstall your apps again.
- Test the keyboard again. If the problem returns, uninstall apps until the issue is eliminated.
Problem 2: Galaxy S6 in-vehicle car Bluetooth radio plays last audio track
When connecting via Bluetooth on my car radio I find that when I try to play radio stations on the Internet eg RAI 1, as well as the Internet I also get the last track that I played on the music player comes on in the background even though the music player is fully closed down. The music player itself works perfectly as does the mobile phone connection and indeed the Internet radio when I close down the music player. — Martin Connolly
Solution: Hi Martin. It may be an app or operating system bug. Try to wipe the cache and data of the apps involved first and see what happens. If possible, consider deleting and reinstalling the apps. If you’re dealing with pre-installed apps, you will be limited to doing the clear cache or data only. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
- Once in there, click on an application.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more.
- These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.
Problem 3: Galaxy S6 videos stop in the middle while playing, won’t play videos at all
Greetings Droid Guy. The past couple of days when I play videos on YouTube, any video chatting app I have (i.e. Glide, Duo, Marco Polo) the video just stops playing. With YouTube I just hit the play button again and it goes for awhile and then stops playing again. With my messaging apps when I’m watching a recorded video it stops mid message. It’s very frustrating and I have no idea the cause. Any suggestions? — Derrick
Solution: Hi Derrick. We’re not aware of any known bug that may cause an issue like this. Did you do something different prior to noticing the problem? For example, if you happen to install an app or update before video started misbehaving, undoing that previous action may help. If nothing of that sort happened, or if undoing the previous action won’t work at all, we suggest that you do the basic software troubleshooting steps.
Wipe the cache partition
The first thing that you want to do is wiping the cache partition. A lot of minor bugs are fixed by refreshing the system cache so you should not skip this. Below are the steps on how to do that:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Install latest Android and app updates
In some cases, installing updates can fix issues so this should be the next logical step for you. We don’t know the full history of your device and the current status of the operating system and apps so this is a must-do step. Some apps work fine with older Android firmware version but suddenly becomes problematic when a new Android is installed so always keep it a habit of making sure all your apps are properly updated. You should manually check the download pages of each app in Play Store as well.
If you install apps outside of Google Play Store, it’s your responsibility to update your apps. Only advanced users venture outside of Play Store in hunting for apps so we assume that you know what to do.
Observe the phone in safe mode
Another possible reason why videos are not working normally in your phone may be a buggy third party app. To check, you can either boot the phone to safe mode, or do a factory reset and observe the device when there are no apps installed. If you don’t want to do the drastic factory reset solution at this time, make sure that you restart the phone to safe mode first. Here’s how:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
Once the phone has booted to safe mode, all third party apps and services will not run. In this environment, videos should work normally again unless there’s a deeper cause of the issue, which may be poor firmware coding.
Fix poor or inefficient firmware coding issue with factory reset
If your issue still remains at this time, the problem must be operating system related so the last thing that you can do is factory reset. Refer to the steps above on how to do it.
Problem 4: Galaxy S6 how to bypass Factory Reset Protection
Have tried multiple techniques to bypass the FRP on GalaxyS6 with no luck. the closest i came was one that made it possible to create a new password, but that is as far as it would let me go. Every OTG cable technique failed. Maybe the flash drive needs to be specifically formatted (fat,fat32,ect) for the APK to load? any help would be greatly appreciated. — Jim Hayes
Solution: Hi Jim. Samsung designed FRP to protect their devices from unauthorized factory reset and unfortunately, there’s no way to tell the system that you are the legitimate user attempting the reset. As of this writing, there’s no official way to bypass FRP other than by providing the correct Google Account credentials.
A lot of known workarounds (including the one involving the use of OTG device) since last year have already been addressed by Samsung so we don’t know if there’s any working unofficial solution to defeat FRP right now.
