Problem 1: Galaxy S6 contacts list keeps showing “New” category
In my Contacts app, there is a category entitled “New” which appears before (above) my “Favorites”. I have no idea where it came from, and there are just 4 contacts in it, none of which are new. In fact they have all been in there for years, and certainly prior to me owning this phone. How do I either get these contacts out of the “New” category, or better yet, get rid of the New category altogether? Thanks for any help you can offer. -Rick
Solution: Hi Rick. We assume you’re using the pre-installed Contacts app from Samsung so this “New” category must be something you created before and have forgotten about. There’s no “New” category by default so it must be a user-created group of contacts.
To see if it’s part of the Groups category, these are the steps that you want to do:
- Launch the Contacts app.
- Tap GROUPS.
- Check the Groups list for New category. If it exists in this list, hit Delete button on top and follow the instructions on how to eliminate the group.
If there’s no New category under Groups, do the following:
- Launch the Contacts app.
- Tap MORE.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Contacts to display.
- Try to select other contacts to display and see if it will eliminate the “New” category. Keep in mind that you created this sometime ago in one of your accounts. If you are using multiple contacts or accounts to in your contacts list, you may have to check each one and seek this category so you can delete it. For example, if you’re using your Google contacts, you can visit your Google contacts page and delete it under Labels section.
Problem 2: Galaxy S6 text expander app not working in email response field
Hi Folks. My text expander app has stopped working in the “response” / text fields of all email programs. The app(s) will work in ALL fields except the main body of text field. I have tried Texpand, BlueDuino, and one other, and all have the same problem: they will not expand text in the response field of email. They work fine in any other field…subject, memo, clipboard etc. Email response field, no-go. I use a generic email, Hotmail and Gmail…same prob regardless of email program. I have tried an app cache clear, reboot, uninstall / reinstall, no help. Any ideas hugely appreciated!! — Scott
Solution: Hi Scott. If you encounter the same problem regardless of apps you’re using, there must be an incompatibility issue between your text expander app and Android/Samsung device you’re using. It can be a limitation within Android itself, or with Samsung devices. This is a problem that can only be answered by the developer of the expander apps you’re using, or by Google developers. The most that you can do is to factory reset. We doubt it will really fix the problem,especially since the problem is a coding-related. Anyhow, it’s worth trying before you decide to contact the developers for a solution.
To factory reset your device, kindly do these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
- Find and tap the Settings icon.
- Under the ‘Personal’ section, find and tap Backup and reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Touch Reset device to proceed with the reset.
- Depending on the security lock you used, enter the PIN or password.
- Tap Continue.
- Touch Delete all to confirm your action.
Remember, factory reset will wipe all user data. Be sure to create a backup before doing it.
Problem 3: Galaxy S6 contacts shows two lists
Hi. In contacts, I’ve got all contacts just once, but split up in two sections, first in orange A-Z and then starting with A to Z again in white, but different contacts. Didn’t find out any pattern which would make sense to which contact appears in which of the two lists. I would like to have just ONE single list A-Z! Then I’m used to have an option in settings to show only contacts with phone numbers. Right now all email-contacts without phone numbers show up. In settings I don’t find the option to make them disappear! I would like to have a list JUST with contacts who have phone numbers. I synced all the contacts from my Gmail account and not from any other source. Thanks for your help. — Uwe Uwe Zenker
Solution: Hi Uwe. You must have enabled at least 2 contacts under Contacts to display. Make sure that you only have one contacts list shown to remove the unwanted contacts list. To do that, follow these steps:
- Launch the Contacts app.
- Tap MORE.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Contacts to display.
- Pick one contacts list.
If the steps above won’t help, you must log in to your Google account in a computer and ensure that you only have one list of contacts. Make sure that you check for duplicates as well to ensure that there are no double entries in the list.
To ensure that your contacts only show those with people with phone number, you must edit each contact and delete those without phone numbers. If you don’t want to delete those without numbers, you can separate them from your main list by creating a group for them. To do that, just follow these steps:
- Go to Google Contacts.
- On the left under Labels, click Create label. (If you don’t see “Labels,” go to group contacts in old Contacts.)
- Type a name, then click OK.
Problem 4: Galaxy S6 stuck in Android is upgrading optimizing app page
I have Galaxy S6. The problem: when I turn on the phone it says, android is upgrading, optimizing app 1 of 255. Then it turns off and back on and repeats the same message. It does this until battery dies. Hope you can help. — Michael Medina
Solution: Hi Michael. It looks like your phone has encountered a problem rebooting normally after an update. If you did try to install an update, the best thing that you can do right now is to try to see if you can boot the phone to Recovery Mode so you can attempt to wipe the cache partition and/or perform a factory reset. To do that, follow these steps:
- Charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume Up keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy logo shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- You can either wipe the cache partition or do a factory reset when in this mode.
If your device remains stuck in the optimizing app page, consider reflashing the bootloader back to stock. The exact steps may vary for your phone model but here are the general steps on how to do it:
- Look for the correct firmware for your phone model and download it. Make sure that you select the right one. It should be the same exact firmware that ran previously on your device. We assume that you list down the firmware version somewhere. If you did not take note of it before, there’s a chance that you may pick the wrong one. As you may know now, using an incorrect firmware can cause complications so good luck with that.
- Let’s now say that you have identified the correct firmware. You then want to download it to your computer. The firmware file should have a bunch of files in it like AP_, BL_, CSC_, etc.
- Look for the file that starts with a label BL; this should be the corresponding bootloader file for this firmware. Once you’ve identified the bootloader file, copy it to your computer’s desktop or to any other folder that you can easily access.
- Proceed with the rest of the flashing procedure using the Odin program.
- In Odin, click on the BL tab and make sure to use the bootloader file you’ve identified earlier.
- Now, make sure that the “Device Added” status and its “ID:COM box” has turned blue before hitting the START button. This will initiate the flashing of your phone’s bootloader.
- Restart the phone once the procedure is finished.
Problem 5: Galaxy S6 “unfortunately Facebook has stopped” error
Hello. I am a getting a error message on my Facebook app on my phone. I have a Samsung S6 and the error message says “unfortunately Facebook has stopped.” I don’t know what version Android it is but it is a Samsung S6. Sorry what should I do? Thanks. — Tashirokevin
Solution: Hi Tashirokevin. The first thing that you want to do is to ensure that all your apps, including your Facebook app, are all up-to-date. Also, be sure to install the latest available Android update.
If your phone already runs the latest app and Android versions at this time, then be sure to re-install Facebook app. You can uninstall it first, then reinstall the app from the Play Store.
If your Facebook app is part of the pre-installed apps of your device, consider wiping its cache and data. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
- Once in there, look for the application and tap it.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more.
- These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.
