Galaxy S6 calendar app not showing notifications, delayed notifications, other issues

A lot of Android #GalaxyS6 users encounter app-related problems so we’ve decided to tackle some issues in this one. Remember, almost all app problems (as long as they are not coding- and/or compatibility-related) can be fixed by clearing app cache and data and factory reset. If you’ll continue to have problems after doing these steps, the ball is out of your hands as your specific problem may only be fixed by the developer. Our suggestion is to always contact the developer if you can’t seem to fix an app issue at your level.

When describing your issue, please be as detailed as possible so we can easily pinpoint a relevant solution. If you can, kindly include the exact error messages you are getting to give us an idea where to start. If you have already tried some troubleshooting steps before emailing us, make sure to mention them so we can skip them in our answers.

Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:

Problem 1: Galaxy S6 Muslim Pro app delayed notifications

Hi. I have Samsung S6 device and have installed an App called Muslim Pro. This App is just like an alarm clock which is supposed to sound 5 times per day at specific times and the time of the sound notification changes automatically few minute every day for every prayer time. The Muslim App does not need any wi-fi connection or any other external help. The problem is that the sound notification sometimes delays from minute to hours. The Reset settings under RESET did not help but after performing “Reset app preferences” under the 3 dots in the top right corner in apps helped. Now the delay is from 0-5 minutes. According to the App developer, all the Muslim Pro app setting are correct. I never had the notification problem with my previous Samsung Core device. What could be the reason of notification delay and is there any solution? It has Android Version 7.0. Knox version 2.7.1. Carrier in Virgin. The issue is the notification delay. — Maqbool Ahmad

Solution: Hi Maqbool. Some apps like Muslim Pro use the phone’s current time, date, and timezone in order to work so the first thing that you want to do is to ensure that your device’s date and time are correct. If the time is set a few minutes late, that can be the reason why the app appears to sound off late as well.

Another thing that we notice in this app is that there’s a number of things that you can modify in terms of time under its Settings menu. One or two of these settings may had been unintentionally configured by you before, or that something caused them to be changed incorrectly. Make sure to check them by doing the things below:

  1. Open Muslim Pro app.
  2. Tap More (three-dot icon) at the bottom right.
  3. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  4. Tap Prayer Times & Adhans.

If you’ve already checked and/or configured Prayer Times & Adhans before contacting us, you should then try to Reset notifications under Adhan notifications section to tell the app that you wish to change everything.

When you visit Adhan notifications section, you’ll also see Notifications not working option at the bottom. Make sure to check it so you’ll know what other developer-provided troubleshooting you can do further.

If all else fails though, consider doing a factory reset in order to remove any third party app or bug that may be causing this app from working properly. Keep in mind that factory reset will delete all your data such as photos, videos, contacts, etc. Be sure to back them up first before doing it. To factory reset your S6, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option Yes — delete all user data is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight Reboot system now and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
  8. Set up the phone again.
  9. Install Muslim app pro only and see if it works properly now. If it does, then the problem may had been caused by an incorrect setting, a third party app, or an unknow software bug.

Problem 2: Galaxy S6 calendar app not showing notifications

The calendar in my Galaxy phone drops appointments both that have already happened as well as those scheduled months in advance. For example, events in October and November that I put on my calendar in May have disappeared, and every event I had listed on my calendar prior to June 1st are also completely gone. I need to keep this information, why is it disappearing. — Jnibouar

Solution: Hi Jnibouar. Samsung Calendar app allows you to add and sync other calendars from other accounts. If you’ve deselected an account where you created a calendar event by mistake, Samsung Calendar app won’t obviously notify you about them. To ensure that Samsung Calendar app will create sound notifications as expected, you must do three things.

Add accounts

This is the first thing that you should do. By adding accounts we mean you have to ensure that the Samsung Calendar app can access the accounts where you create the calendar events. For example, if you have two Google accounts and you create calendar events for each of them, make sure that both accounts are signed in under Settings>Cloud and accounts>Accounts. This is a required step if you want to Samsung Calendar app to access your calendar events associated with each account.

Sync your accounts

If you’ve already added the accounts but haven’t synced them lately, there’s a chance that the newly added calendar events were not detected by Calendar app. Be sure to sync each of your accounts. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Cloud and accounts.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  4. Tap the type of account (like Google).
  5. Tap the account you want to sync.

Manage calendars

Once you’ve added and synced the necessary accounts to the device, the next step is to configure Calendar app properly. This is done by doing the following steps:

  1. Open Calendar app.
  2. Tap More (three-dot icon at the upper left).
  3. Tap Manage calendars.
  4. Move the All calendars slider to the right (to ensure that you don’t miss anything).
  5. Press Back key.
  6. Tap More (three-dot icon at the upper left).
  7. Tap Sync now.

Allow Calendar app notifications

If Calendar app continues to fail to notify you of events at this time, make sure that you check if it’s allowed to make notifications. Here’s how:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Tap Advanced.
  4. Find and select the calendar app.
  5. Make sure that Allow notifications is enabled (slider to the right).

Problem 3: Galaxy S6 ‘Unfortunately music has stopped’ error

Hi. I have an S6. It keeps getting the message ‘Unfortunately, music has stopped.’ Have restarted it, opens app, then message appears. I notice that the dark background on the app (for the brief second it opens) is light at the edges around the perimeter – this is also new. Any help you can give will be appreciated. Thanks. — Andrew

Solution: Hi Andrew. There may be an app bug causing the problem so the first step that you want to do is to wipe the app’s cache and data. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
  3. Once in there, look for the application and tap it.
  4. You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  5. You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.

If you’re using a pre-installed Music app, you can also try to see if a third party app is responsible by restarting your phone to safe mode. If the problem won’t occur or if the app works normally when in safe mode, that means that one of the downloaded apps is causing the  ‘Unfortunately, music has stopped’ error.

To restart your S6 to safe mode, kindly follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
  2. Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
  3. Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
  4. You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Problem 4: Galaxy S6 freezes after installing game, can’t uninstall game app

My partner has this photo and we’re having trouble with some games. There is plenty of space for the game. They download and install properly but when you try to run them is where you hit road blocks. The game loads a bit, and flashes. But won’t stay up on the screen. When I press the button to show what windows are up it loads from a second and goes back. I can’t uninstall via Google play as it’s frozen. I had to use a third party app to uninstall it as the entire phone locks up. Any tips, would be welcome, this phone is starting to drive me mad. — Phillippa Cashion

Solution: Hi Phillippa. Either the game app you’ve installed is bad or suspicious, or that it’s simply incompatible and too poorly coded that it eventually affects Google Play Store app’s function. Either case, we think you’re better off if it’s taken out of your device.

Since you’re very economical with your problem description, and you even failed to mention the name of the app, we suggest that you simply do a factory reset to ensure that you wipe the phone clean. Kindly check the steps above on how to do this.

Keep in mind that not all apps are safe and/or built well. Be sure to only install apps from trusted sources or developers. A good way to know if an app is okay is by checking what other users are saying about it (reviews) and checking the internet by typing its name in Google. Because only developers truly know what they’re doing with the data they collected from devices that installed their products, be always in the lookout for apps that might appear legitimate to hide their nefarious purposes. A lot of game apps are built to lure users to install them and then do some really bad stuff like steal accounts information, passwords, etc. Being suspicious when it comes to installing apps is a good mindset. Be choosy and try to stick to official apps only.
