S8 Screen Is Black After Drop
Problem: Hey, thanks for this help. My carrier is Rogers which I’m guessing was not an option due to it not being used/well known in USA. My device is a Samsung Galaxy S8. What happened was I dropped my phone from a height of about 4 feet. Now there are 8-9 cracks running from the left side of the screen to the right side. The screen is almost completely black but I can see some parts of the lock screen at the top of the screen (can see some of the time and also the internet sign at top right). The rest is just black. When I bend the phone back, the bottom 50% of the screen goes from black to lots of little green pixels with some red ones in between. Sometimes there are also black lines running from left to right on the screen when I bend it back. Sometimes when I bend it back, nothing happens. The phones still restarts when I keep the volume up button, home button, and power button at the same time but the situation stays the same. It still vibrates before each restart/start up. Currently there is also the flashing blue light which I believe is from a notification, I believe the phone bend inwards from the the looks of the drop (the middle area seems to have bent in and the 2 outer sides bend out to form a little curve/arc kind of like the letter “v” except less extreme of a curve of course. Currently the phone looks absolutely fine except for the 8-9 cracks (it’s completely straight and all). The location of the cracks isn’t in the middle, it is slightly above the middle of the phone and the distance from the 2 furthest cracks is about 1-1.5 inches. The 2 buttons on either side of the home button still light up after I press the home button and I still hear occasional noises from the phone from notifications. Also I’m not too sure what the current version was although I believe it was the most recent was. What are you thoughts on what the issue is? Once again thanks for the help and assistance.
Solution: Right now the phone is unusable due to the damaged screen. You can have the display assembly of the phone replaced at a service center ( which i highly recommend) so that the issue can be resolved.
S8 Has Colored Horizontal Lines
Problem: I have a Galaxy S8 . While charging with a battery pack, I was using the phone to play pandora stations via bluetooth to a remote speaker. It was in the shade. Suddenly the screen went blank. Now, all I can see are multi-colored horizontal lines. I checked all LCD connections, as well as all the ribbon connections and they are all firm. I read several posts on the subject and it appears that somehow, the LCD went bad. There was no impact event involved, as many have reported…it was just sitting on a table when the problem occurred. However…I did drop the phone onto my vehicle’s console and that caused the screen to come back to life, but it was short lived. It has been nothing but colored horizontal lines since the drop of yesterday evening.
Related Problem: I just bought a Samsung S8 roughly 24 days ago now from Walmart. Today, the screen randomly stopped working. It was almost completely black, with the exception of two lines from the top to the bottom of the screen on the right hand side. I tried resetting my phone, let it sit for a while… it doesn’t have any cracks or anything on it, and I even had a shock absorbing case on it. Do I need to replace my screen?
Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. Do the lines still appear when the phone is started in this mode? If not then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty display assembly. You will need to have this checked at a service center.
