S7 Wi-Fi Is Not Working

Problem: Hello, I have a Samsung S7, and suddenly my WiFi is not working.  It is showing connected, however, no apps are updating (Snapchat, Instagram, bitcoin widgets, reddit, etc.) I am also not able to use the internet.  There does seem to be some level of connectivity because there will be moments when notification badges come through, however, the apps won’t allow me to view the notifications once I click on them.

  • I have removed and added the WiFi connection and rebooted my phone
  • I have cleared the cache partition
  • I did a soft reset and a factory reset

After all these attempts I am still seeing the same problem.  I would assume at this point I have a hardware problem. I am currently staying in the Netherlands and am not sure where I might be able to take my phone to be serviced. Any suggestions other than investing in a new phone.  This one, although an S7 is less than a year old, or that is how it was sold, given it came from Ebay there is a strong chance it is not new, but refurbished.

Solution: You should try checking if the same issue occurs when trying to connect the phone to a different Wi-Fi network. If the issue does not occur then there might be a problem possibly relating to the settings of the router that your phone is connecting to. In case the issue persists and since you have already performed a factory reset then the problem could be caused by a faulty Wi-Fi chip. You should try searching for a service center in your area and have the phone repaired.

S7 Authorization Error When Connecting To Wi-Fi

Problem: My Galaxy S7 will drop the WiFi and then try to reconnect, and come up with a “Authorization Error”.  I have to turn the WiFi off and then on again and it reconnect without a problem. This happens with both my work and home WiFi.

Solution: Since this problem occurs on different Wi-Fi networks then the problem is most likely originating on the phone side. What you should do first in this case is to try to forget the Wi-Fi network from the phone then connect to it again. In case the issue persists then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then there’s a chance that the problem is caused by an app you downloaded since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S7 Hotspot Not Working

Problem: I have a Galaxy S7. I have been using it as a hotspot for the last year and about 3 weeks ago it stopped. I contacted my carrier, Credo/Sprint AND Samsung several times. I’ve done all the resets and upgrades available and was told about the soft os-soft reset, available ONLY from an authorised Samsung dealer. So I found 1 and did it. And instead of doing that, they did a factory reset AND charged me for it. AND it still has not worked. My wireless router appears on the menu BUT the phone won’t connect, even though I’ve re-entered the info, names and MAC addresses. I’m at a loss and am unable to use it for net access on my p.c. Even my tablet can’t connect to it.

Solution: The hotspot feature of your phone will allow other devices to connect to it and let these devices go online using the phone data connection. Sometimes this is a carrier add on feature so you will need to contact your carrier if your current account will allow this feature to be used. Once you have confirmed this you should turn on the hotspot feature of the phone by following the steps listed below. Take note that the phone should be getting a good LTE signal so that the Internet connection that other devices will be getting is going to be strong.

  • From the home screen tap on Apps then Settings
  • Touch Mobile HotSpot and Tethering
  • Touch Mobile Hotspot
  • Touch the slider to turn Mobile Hotspot on

You can also configure your hotspot setting.

  • From the home screen tap on Apps then Settings
  • Touch Mobile HotSpot and Tethering
  • Touch Mobile Hotspot
  • Touch More then Configure Mobile Hotspot
  • Enter of edit the network name, set your Hide my device preference, select the Security type, and enter or edit the Password.
  • Mark the Show advanced options checkbox to configure the Broadcast channel.
  • Tap SAVE
