The #Samsung #Galaxy #S7Edge is a former flagship phone released in 2016 that is best known for its curved edge display feature. The phone uses a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display which offers a brilliant and crisp color reproduction. This phone actually uses the same hardware components as the S7 except for its larger display as well as its bigger capacity 3600mAh battery. Although this is a solid performing phone there are instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S7 Edge intermittent charging issue and other related problems.

S7 Edge Intermittent Charging
Problem: So i tried to charge my phone on my powerbank and it didn’t work, so i used my other one and than i tried straight from the power plug (which is the old black samsung charger), it also didn’t work. Than i tried from my laptop and that worked, after that my powerbank could charge my phone, but only sometimes. The old samsung charger can charge my brothers phone which also is a galaxy s7 edge. I also noticed that everytime i charged my phone from my laptop i could afterwards charge my phone from my powerbanks for a time, it doesn’t last. So essentially i can charge my phone from some power sources but not from others(or not for long).
My S7 Edge from old and new samsung charger: no
Brother S7 Edge from old and new samsung charger: yes
My S7 Edge from powerbank: not always(after i charged from my laptop)
Brother S7 Edge from powerbank: always
My S7 Edge from laptop: always
Solution: It looks like the phone can only be charged from a power source that has a low current output. This is an indication that something is wrong with either the charging port of the phone or its power IC.
The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. You will need to make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed as this can interfere with the charging process. When charging the phone try using different charging cords and wall chargers.
In case the issue persists you will then have to check if this is caused by a software glitch by doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a hardware component that is failing to work properly. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
S7 Edge Not Turning On
Problem: Hi my Samsung S7 edge just turned off and haven’t been able to turn back on, spoke to a phone shop and he said if you charge it wirelessly (as I’ve tried wire charging) so he can rule out battery issue. Tried it and the blue light came on in the top right hand corner for a little but no luck. Only option is to check the motherboard but would like to check my options. Can you help please?
Solution: If the phone does not charge from either a wired or wireless charger then this might already be caused by a power IC that is failing to work properly or a faulty battery. The best thing that you can do right now is to have the phone checked at a service center.
Problem: I had this phone and I got a new phone so I factory reset the S7 Edge and left it in an empty drawer for a while. After a few months I wanted to give this phone to someone else but when I tried to turn on the phone it wouldn’t turn on so I tried to charge it, however all I got was a blinking red light. I’ve tried different chargers and plugs but I still get the blinking light. I’ve tried the combinations of hard keys but none of them seem to boot my phone.
Solution: The blinking red LED means that the phone is low in battery or it is connected to a charger but not charging. Because the phone has been left for a few months on a drawer its is normal for its battery to lose some charge. What you will want to do right now is to charge the phone by following the steps listed below.
- Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed.
- Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger. If the phone does not charge then try charging it from a computer USB port.
- Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
