There were some emails from our readers suggesting the Samsung Galaxy S4 has some problems displaying caller information such as contact’s name and phone number when viewing recent calls. The problem is actually not so common and only a few may have experienced it. But for the benefit of those who may have been bugged by this issue and those who may be looking for solutions, here are things worth trying.
- Contacts syncing is disabled.
- Inconsistent network connection.
- Mobile data is turned off.
- You are roaming but the device is set to not use data when roaming.
- No caller ID info being provided by the Service Provider.
- You are affected with network outage in your area.
What You Need To Do
#1. Turn off Wi-F. If you are connected to a Wi-Fi access point, your device will not connect to the mobile data network.
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Choose Settings from the menu.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap WiFi.
- Touch the slider from On to Off.
#2. Wait for an hour. If you caller info was displaying before, it could just a temporary device problem. If the problem does not affect you that much, wait about an hour or two to see if the problem could be fixed. There might be some network problems and your Service Provider may already be working on it.
#3. Call for support. After waiting for an hour or two and the problem persists, you may call your provider’s hotline and file a report about the problem. Inquire to know if your account is still in good standing. Then inquire about possible outages in your area. Ask if the representative can help you solve the problem.
#4. Check for available updates. It may just be a minor software glitch and could be fixed by updates. So check if there are some firmware updates to eliminate this possibility.
Step 1: Turn on synchronization for your account.
- From the Home screen, tap Menu.
- Choose Settings.
- Tap Accounts.
- Touch the account type that contains the contacts you want to synchronize with your device.
Step 2: If you have more than one account listed, touch the account you wish to have synchronized.
Step 3: Touch Sync Contacts to mark the checkbox. Your device will immediately begin synchronizing the contacts.
Step 4: Touch Back to exit the sync settings screen. If necessary, repeat the steps for any other accounts.
Step 5: Look for contacts in your Call Logs; touch Phone at the bottom of the Home screen. Then touch Logs at the top of the phone screen.
