Amazon Shopping keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (easy fix)

When it comes to shopping online, Amazon is always the common choice that’s why the company already developed its own application for mobile users so they could shop online through their fingertips. Just recently though, we have received some complaints from our readers regarding the the Amazon Shopping application because according to them, the app keeps on crashing. Others said it closes on its own after opening or after a few minutes of use and the worse thing the items they placed in their shopping carts are no longer available when they open the app again. There are also users who reported to have been getting the error message “Unfortunately, Amazon Shopping has stopped.”

Regardless whether you’re getting the error or having the app close out on you, it’s the same thing–the application crashes. Now, it could be just a minor problem with the applications itself or it could be an issue with the firmware. The error doesn’t give us a clue as to what causes the problem so you really have to do some troubleshooting procedures and that’s the purpose of this post. I will walk you through in troubleshooting your device to know more about the problem as well as fix it. How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus with Amazon Shopping app that keeps crashing


Applications-related issues are generally minor in nature and are easier to fix. That goes for both pre-installed and third-party apps. The course of out troubleshooting will be to rule out every possibility until we can pinpoint what the problem really is and then formulate a solution that may fix it. Here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Reboot your Galaxy S9 Plus

We don’t know yet why this problem is happening on your phone but let’s assume, before anything else, that this is just a minor issue with either the app or the firmware. Glitches can be fixed by a simple reboot. So, hit the power key and restart your Galaxy S9 Plus and after which, open Amazon app to know if it still crashes and if it still does, I suggest you try doing the Forced Restart which is far more effective than the normal reboot.

  • Press and hold the volume down button and the power key at the same time for 10 seconds or so.

This will simulate battery disconnect and refresh your phone’s memory. It will also reload all apps and services running in the background as well as core functions. If the problem still occurs after this, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Reset Amazon Shopping

Doing this will bring the app back to its original settings or configuration. A reset in apps means to clear their caches and data. If this this problem is indeed just a minor app issue, then this procedure can fix it. Here’s how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Find and tap Amazon Shopping.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear cache.
  6. Tap Clear data and then tap OK.
  7. Reboot your phone.

If the problem continues after doing this, then the next solution has a higher probability of fixing it.

Third solution: Uninstall Amazon Shopping and reinstall it

The error message “Unfortunately, Amazon Shopping has stopped” or any other signs of crashes can be fixed by uninstalling the app but what we want here is to get rid of those issues so that you can continue using the app on your Galaxy S9 Plus. While I often suggest to update apps to address possible compatibility issues between the application and the firmware, this time it’s better to just uninstall it to remove all its associations with other apps and services.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Amazon Shopping.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

Now, to make sure you have the latest version of the app in your phone, download a fresh copy from the Play Store and install it.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘amazon’ in the search box.
  4. Select Amazon Shopping then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

The first three solutions should be enough to fix a minor problem like this. However, if by any chance the issue continues to bug you and you badly need to use the app, then a reset would be worth it. On the other hand, if you the app isn’t that important since you can actually just use your computer to shop, your phone will be better off without it.

If ever you decide to reset your phone, make sure you make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the reset. After which, remove your google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out especially if you’re not sure about your password or google ID. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
