Solved Samsung Galaxy S8+ Randomly Freezing

The #Samsung #Galaxy #S8+ is the larger model among the two flagship phones that Samsung released last year. This phone uses a 6.2 inch Super AMOLED display at an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Aside from a larger battery of 3500 mAh it shares similar hardware components as that of the S8. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S8+ randomly freezing issue and other related problems.

S8+ Randomly Freezing

Problem: Hello, My issue started a few days ago where my phone was randomly freezing and totally unresponsive to anything and the screen display would stay exactly as it was when it froze. It would stay this way right until the battery was fully drained and had no more power to stay on. I have had to wait for the battery to go flat and it would go ok for a small period of time when recharging it before doing it again. At this point in time it will not charge and if i can get it turned on it goes unresponsive straight away and again stays stuck frozen how it was at the time. When plugging it in to charge it, every 2 minutes it turns itself on and off, if i try to use it it freezes until i take it off the power and the battery goes flat. If left on charge it keeps turning on/off  every minute or so repeatedly and even after an hour it has only charged 2-3 percent. Due to this i can’t even do any suggested troubleshooting. Please help and point me in the right direction to what i can do to fix this.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to make sure that the phone charges properly by following the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger.
  • In case the phone still charges on and off then you will have to bring this to a service center and have it checked.

Once the phone has sufficient charge it’s time to tackle the freezing problem by following the steps listed below.

  • Remove the microSD card of the phone if one is installed. Check if the issue still occurs.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8+ Screen Flickering Constantly After Drop

Problem: Samsung Galaxy S8+ accidentally dropped for the VERY FIRST TIME. The phone was working fine after, no cracks on the screen either. After sometime the screen started to flicker and now, it’s acting funny the whole time. I can still use the phone and all the apps but the screen has multiple color stripes/patches on it and there is a constant flicker at the bottom of the screen. What can I do to fix this?

Solution: While this looks like a hardware related problem already most likely caused by a damaged display assembly you can still try to perform a factory reset to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the issue still persists then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S8+ Has Blue Spot On Screen

Problem: A few days ago I turned on my phone and there was a small blue circle in the top left corner of my screen, sorta like a bruise if you will. As the next few days progressed the ‘bruise’ kept getting larger and eventually I could not see the screen. It is now all black and when I turn the phone on I can see the little light on the front turn on, but I cannot see the screen. I had dropped it a few times before and it had a crack on the front but it was on the other side of the bruise. I hadn’t dropped it in a few months either.

Solution: The problem is most likely caused by a damaged display. This can be fixed by having the display assembly replaced. Before bringing the phone to a service center you can check if  a software glitch is causing the problem by starting the phone in recovery mode and if the screen works in this mode I suggest that you do a factory reset. Take note that this reset will erase your phone data.
