J5 Randomly Shutting Down And Rebooting

Problem: My phone has been shutting off and rebooting itself for a couple of months now. Usually it occurs when the phone is on a low percent charged. In the past I was able to reboot (after many many attempts) but tonight while charging it shut off completely ( absolutely no power . ) and I am unable to get it started.

Solution: The first thing you will need to do in this case is to make sure that the battery of your phone has sufficient charge to turn on the device. Follow the steps listed below to charge the phone.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in this port.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a wall charger.
  • If the phone does not charge then try using a different charging cord and wall charger. You should also try charging the phone from a computer USB port.
  • Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.

If the phone does not charge or power on then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this problem could already be caused by a faulty hardware component.

J5 Does Not Turn On

Problem: I have had my J5 for more than a year. My phone recently died. I used my phone all day without any issues on a saturday well fast forward to the same night the battery was low around 34% but I did not place the phone on the charger. The next morning(sunday) the phone is now dead so I place the phone on charge and nothing happens. The led light is not lighting up to say the phone is charging. Nothing. I call the AT&T store explain the situation and the rep says it sounds like I may need a new charge port. The rep even told me to do a reset by holding power key and down volume button but nothing happens.I took the phone to a service repair place the tech stated he “changed/replaced” my screen but the phone still would not power on even after being on the charger for hours. I was charged a “labor” fee and my phone was returned. I bought a replacement port part and have installed but still no power on. I did order a battery as that is my last attempt to save this phone. I am also going to get a new charger as suggested on a previous post. Could it be a software issue? My storage space was close to being maxed out. Please help if possible.

Solution: It’s unlikely that the problem is caused by a software glitch. You should try replacing the battery of the phone first then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then this might already be caused by a faulty power IC. If this is the case then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Shows Samsung Logo Then Turns Off

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy J5.  My battery was half charged this morning when i left my house.  I just got thru talking to my daughter. My phone froze up. I tried to turn it off and i could not turn it off, so i took the battery out.  When i tried to put the battery back in. It showed the samsung symbol and tried to start up but then turned black. Its doing a vibrating hum on and off every second.  When i had it plugged up to charge, it still does the same vibrating hum on and off, even when i removed the battery with it still plugged up. I tried removing the battery, holding down the power button. I even tried putting in my other battery.  Did my phone crash? I appreciate any comments or help ! Thank you !

Solution: The best thing to do right now is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch by starting the phone in recovery mode then from here do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

In case the issue persists then perform the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger.
  • Turn on the phone by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a hardware component that is failing to work properly. The best thing to do right now is  to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

J5 Screen Is Black But Phone Is Working

Problem: Screen will not come on. Phone vibrates when battery removed and replaced like it is coming on. And I believe it is. You can play with it by touching the screen and here sounds like phone is operating. But with no screen you have no clue what you are doing. So basically I believe I have a phone that is working yet simply doesn’t have any display. Just a black screen. Can you help me please? Is there anything I can do? What do you think is the problem with my phone? And whatever you think it is, would it be cheaper to replace the phone or to get it repaired? Any help would be soooo appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Solution: The best thing to do right now is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch by doing a factory reset in recovery mode. Take note that this will delete your phone data. If this doesn’t fix the problem then this might already be caused by a faulty display assembly. You will need to have this checked at a service center.
