S7 Edge Battery Drains Quickly Gets Hot When Charging

Problem: Hey Droid Guy, just had an issue with my s7 Edge that I also had with my iPhone 5s years ago that I can’t seem to figure out, I’ve been chalking it up to being a battery issue but still concerns me. I was wondering if you could give me some insight. I had my s7 Edge replaced thru warranty back during the Spring of 2017 due to a screen crack, so this phone is basically brand new, not refurbished or previously used by anyone. Fresh out of the box. Lately I have noticed the battery drains really fast, almost a percent per few minutes during use. I have tried many different methods to prevent this, it’s a hit or miss usually depending on what I am doing or what settings I have set. But the biggest issue is when I charge my phone, it sometimes gets very hot, and if I am using it while charging, will not charge at all. It will just be stuck at the same percent the entire time, or actually go down a few percentages. I have tested this by using my phone for a couple hours while connected and on fast charging mode. I have to leave my phone alone completely if I want it to actually charge it properly. I am using a stock fast charging cable w/ correct charger block. Could this mean I need a new battery completely replaced due to defect, or the charger? I am also concerned about the heating, now I just shut my phone off and leave it idle when it gets way too hot. I haven’t received overheating warnings, which is good but it is still a problem. Any feedback would be great.

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to check if a system glitch is causing this problem. To do thi you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If your phone has a microSD card installed then you should remove it. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then we can eliminate a software glitch as a possible cause to this problem.

The next step is to isolate the hardware components.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed. Charge your phone then check if the issue still occurs.
  • If the issue persists then try using a different charging cord and wall charger when charging the phone.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then this might be caused by a faulty battery. You will then need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

S7 Edge Does Not Install System Update

Problem: It has been a year and I have an update to be installed. It downloads it properly. But, when it attempts to install it reaches around 33% and it then shows me a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark with the Android meaning I guess not being able to proceed. I have attempted many times to do the same by the factory reset and with my battery on charger more 20%, but still not being able. Nonetheless, it has space more than 9GB.

Solution: For this particular issue you should try starting the phone in recovery mode then perform both steps listed below. Make sure to backup your phone data prior to doing this.

  • Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Do a factory reset.

As soon as the reset is complete try to update your phone again. If the issue remains then use Smart Switch to perform the update.

S7 Edge Screen Is Flickering

Problem: Hi, I recently had an accident and forcefully fell into a gutter with my phone in my hand, and the gutter was filled with water and when I pulled out my phone, I noticed cracks on it and also the screen is flickering with different colors. My phone is a Samsung S7 edge. Please what should I do

Solution: Although this phone is waterproof water can still enter the device if the seals are broken. In this case since the display cracked then water might have entered the phone from here. The combination of the water and the crack is most likely causing the flickering problem right now. The best thing that you can do is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Edge Cannot Send Pictures Via Text

Problem: I have a Samsung s7 Edge. I used to be able to send pictures via text. Then there was a software update about 2 months ago. Now I have difficulties text pictures to people using the texting app with this phone. My friend has the same problem with her s7 edge. Can this be fixed so I don’t have to send the picture more than once?

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Make sure that the phone is using the correct APN settings.
  • Make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription and that the mobile data switch is on.

In case the issue persists then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S7 Edge Having Trouble Receiving Pictures Sent As Text

Problem: Hi there, Lately I have been having trouble receiving pictures sent to me via text message. I believe it’s specifically when some iPhone users send me pics, but not necessarily all iPhone users. The text will come in as a message that says simply “message not found” — sometimes it’s listed in the conversation with the person who sent it, and other times it will come in from “Unknown Address.” I tried clearing my cache but that didn’t fix the problem. I also turned off auto-retrieve in my text message settings to see if I could download them manually, but that didn’t work either — in fact, when I attempted to download a pic, it disappeared and became a “message not found” text in the Unknown Address conversation. Any ideas as to what else I can try? Thank you!

Solution: For this particular problem you will need to follow the same troubleshooting steps as the issue (S7 Edge Having Troubles Receiving Pictures Sent As Text) we have addressed above.

If the issue persists then have the iPhone user sending you a text message to check the Messages settings of their phone. Have them turn on the Send as SMS setting.
