S6 Bluetooth Audio Not Working

Problem: I am using a Galaxy S6 with the latest software installed. About 15 months ago (late 2016) my Bluetooth headset stopped working with my phone. I got the phone new in late 2015 and everything with the phone worked fine. Then one day, out of the blue, the audio on my Bluetooth stopped connecting on a call. At first when I restarted my phone, the issue seemed to go away. It kept reappearing and eventually a phone restart no longer solved the issue. I researched online and found someone with a similar issue who said to disable google voice. That seemed to work one time, but the problem reappeared. I gave up trying and decided to live with the issue. Here is what I currently experience: when I make a phone call with my Bluetooth headset connected, I hear a beep when the call initiates, but I hear no ring and I can’t hear the other person when they answer, nor can they hear me. I am able to hear music and videos through Bluetooth, but not phone calls. I have been hoping that software updates will fix the issue, but The issue still exists after over a year do frustration. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is to check if the problem is caused by the Bluetooth device itself. Try using a different Bluetooth headset then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

Clear the cache and data of the Bluetooth app of the phone.

  • Tap the App icon from the home screen of the phone
  • Tap the Settings icon
  • Tap Application Manager
  • Swipe the screen left or right in order to find All Tabs
  • Select Bluetooth
  • Tap Clear Cache
  • Select Clear Data
  • Choose Ok
  • Restart your phone

Pair your phone with the Bluetooth headset.

  • Navigate to Apps > Settings.
  • Touch the slider to turn on Bluetooth.
  • Touch the name of the device you want to connect to.
  • Follow the on-screen instruction for the pairing request.
  • After the devices are connected, the devices you selected to pair with will now appear under Paired devices.

Check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to fix the problem.

S6 Bluetooth Calls Have Static Noise

Problem: I have my phone paired to the bluetooth audio system in my car (2013 Subaru Outback) so I can make hands-free calls while driving. It was fine for years until recently when I noticed I would get a staticy sound when the call is connecting and when I am in the call. In safe mode, the static goes away, so I deleted loads of 3rd party apps to no avail. I have cleared the cache and the cache partition but still get the problem. I do not want to factory reset the phone. Do you have any other suggestions?

Solution: If the issue does not occur when the phone is started in Safe Mode then this is most likely caused by an app you downloaded or by a recent update to one of the phone apps. In case you can’t find out what app is causing the problem then I would recommend a factory reset. You should backup your phone data first before doing this reset.

S6 Cannot Make Calls Or Text Unless Mobile Data Is Active

Problem: I bought a refurbished S6 and activated it with Straight Talk. For the first 12 hours or so, it worked great. Then the service cut out (calls/texts)…I contacted Straight talk, they double checked my account, checked the area and found no issues. I contacted the seller of my phone for feedback/to start the refund process, thinking it’s an issue with the phone. That same day, yesterday, my friend tries to tell me that you need to have mobile data on to send texts & make calls…I know this isn’t true, I should be able to do it without but I turned it on and, lo and behold, I have service again. So I let the seller know and they suggested having straight talk deactivate and reactivate the phone, which we did and was also unsuccessful (mobile data still works though!). I have practically unlimited data so that’s not my concern but I’ve been reading threads and people who’ve had similar issues have said mobile data will probably be a temporary fix and the service will eventually not work at all again. So my question is, does this sound service OR phone related? Should I just send the phone back? Is this a common issue with the S6? I absolutely love the phone and really don’t want to send it back but i’ d rather do it now than later. PS have no idea what system it is…its a samsung 920V

Solution: Since the phone that you have is an unlocked Verizon device ( which runs on a CDMA network) then you will need to have an active mobile data subscription and a mobile data signal in order for the phone to make calls and texts on Straight Talk ( which is a GSM network).
