Note 5 Excessive Battery Drain
Problem: Just in the past two weeks I have noticed that my Note 5 battery drain is excessive. Seems to fully charge, just doesn’t hold charge even when sitting and in use. One of the troubleshooting “tips” is to see if there is an app causing this and delete/remove it. How does one make such an assessment, and detect the culprit app? Also occasionally the phone gets very warm, where cannot comfortably hold to the ear.
Solution: The best way to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem is to start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by one of the apps you downloaded. You will have to do a trial and error method to find out what app is causing the problem. I suggest that you install one app at a time. After uninstalling an app you should check if the problem still occurs. Repeat this step until you get to the point where the problem does not occur after uninstalling an app. The last app you uninstalled could be causing the problem.
In case the issue occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try checking first if the issue still occurs.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely a hardware related issue already in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Stuck In Boot Loop After Software Update
Problem: Hello, Last Friday night my phone did an update (I believe it was a system update). When it was done it got stuck in a boot loop so i cleared the catch and did a system reset in the phone. Still when i turned it on it continued to boot loop. I tried clearing this a few times and nothing it will only boot loop. I have never dropped the phone or got it wet. So i was reading about using Odin. When i put the phone in Odin download mode and i plug it into a computer the computer won’t recognize the phone. I have tried manually installing the drivers and the computer will still not recognize the phone. I have used multiple USB cords i even bought a new one and I’ve tried on my Windows 7 computer at home, My Mac Book Pro, and my Windows 7 Pro at work. The phone is past warranty and i can’t afford to file an insurance claim. What can i do next? am I missing something?
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed. Next, install the Smart Switch software in your computer. Connect you phone to the computer using the new USB cord then run Smart Switch. If the phone is still not detected then this is most likely a hardware related problem already in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Overheats Then Freezes
Problem: My phone easily gets overheat, and the screen freezes frequently. The keypad sometimes gets stuck for up to 10 seconds when I try to hit a key. When power is less than 20 percent, it always restarts automatically in a random fashion.
Solution: What you will want to do first in this case is to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch by performing the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be a hardware related problem.
Note 5 Screen Remains Black When Unlocking From Sleep
Problem: My phone seems to work fine in every other aspect except for when I go to swipe across the screen to unlock it it continuously turns black. It just started doing this less than 2 months ago and didn’t think anything of it until I saw other people were asking about the same situation here. However, this doesn’t happen every time but it is quite often and here recently has been even more frequent and sometimes does it more than 10x in a row. I didn’t buy the phone with insurance and the phone doesn’t have a warranty, what can I do?
Solution: If the issue occurs intermittently then this is very likely caused by a software glitch. Try wiping the cache partition of the phone first from the recovery mode. In case this doesn’t fix the problem then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 5 Stuck On T-Mobile Logo
Problem: Last night my phone was fine but when I woke up in the morning my phone appear the white screen what has T-Mobile logo and I can’t do anything to it. I tried to turn it on by pushing the lock button for a minute, but it didn’t work.
Solution: Try restarting the phone by simultaneously pressing and holding the power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Your phone should restart after this. If it is still stuck on the boot logo then you should proceed with starting the phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by an internal hardware component that is failing to work in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Does Not Wake From Sleep If It Is Cold
Problem: Only purchased it as new old stock about 45 days ago. About a week ago it began to not wake up when pressing Home or Power buttons. Screen flashes then goes black but phone is still on. I have read and tried all your suggested fixes, but it seems to be cold related. As long as I keep my phone in my shirt pocket where it stays warm, it wakes from sleep every time. Has there been any revelations as to a permanent fix for this well known issue? Thanks in advance.
Solution: You should try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely caused by a hardware component that is failing to work in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Turning Off S Pen
Problem: I lost my s pen and cannot use a lot of features or apps on my phone, i don’t like using the pen so i wasn’t going to replace it is it possible to turn the S Pen off completely and not have to use it at all and how do I do that without actually replacing a pen
Solution: The only setting that you can turn off is the S Pen detection. Go to Settings > Device > S Pen and toggle the Turn off pen detection.
