How to fix Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with Twitter app that keeps crashing (easy steps)

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is well-designed and runs on a well-developed operating system and firmware. The Twitter app is also well-developed and in fact, one of the most popular apps used by smartphone owners. Some S9 Plus users however, are complaining about the app that reportedly keeps on crashing. App-related issues are among the most commonly reported problems and if you’re an Android user, you may be able to encounter some every now and then.

When Twitter crashes, it’s probably just a minor issue and I personally experienced the problem before. In my experience, Twitter kept on closing on its own every time I opened it, which means it was also crashing and I couldn’t continue using it. Others however, may encounter an error message that, in this case, says “Unfortunately, Twitter has stopped.” It’s similar to an issue where the app closes on its own and both are signs of an app that crashes.

There’s always a way to fix this problem and I will share with you the solution that I’ve been using to fix app-related problems before. So, if you’re one of the owners of this great phone and are currently bugged by a similar issue, continue reading as this post may help you.

How to fix Galaxy S9 Plus with Twitter that keeps crashing


Unlike Facebook, Twitter is not a pre-installed app on the Galaxy S9 Plus and being a third-party app, it means it’s not embedded in the firmware. If you have an issue with it, you can simply remove it from your phone and the problem is fixed. However, in this post, we want to help you fix the problem so that you may continue using the app so here’s what I suggest you do about it:

First solution: Restart your Galaxy S9 Plus

There are times when a glitch in the system occurs and when it happens, it may affect the performance of some apps. Glitches can easily be fixed by a reboot and that’s the reason why you have to do this procedure before anything else because it might be the only thing you need to do to fix this problem. So, hit that power key and reboot your phone. If the app still crashes after the normal reboot, you should try doing the Forced restart procedure:

  • Press and hold the volume down and the power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more or until the phone reboots.

The Forced Restart simulates battery disconnect which refreshes your phone’s memory, close all apps and services running in the background and reloads all core functions. Needless to say, it’s pretty effective in fixing any minor firmware and hardware glitches and issues. However, if this doesn’t fix the problem, then you should do the next procedure.

Second solution: Reset Twitter

In this case a reset is actually just deleting the cache and data of the Twitter app. This will bring it back to its default settings and configuration and if the problem is actually just with the app, then this is more than enough to fix it.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Twitter.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap CLEAR CACHE.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.

Open the app after this to know if it still crashes and if it does, then the problem is not just with the app. There might be something else that triggers it. With that said, try the next solution.

Third solution: Run your phone in safe mode

First off, running in safe mode won’t fix the problem but I suggest you do this to determine if there are other third-party apps that cause the problem. As you may have already known, when in safe mode, only the pre-installed apps are running and all third-party apps are temporarily disabled. So, if you open Twitter and it works perfectly fine in this mode, then there should be an app that’s causing it. Find that app and uninstall it. Now, here’s how you run your S9 Plus in safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

And here’s how you uninstall an app from your phone:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

If the problem persists after this, then try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Uninstall and reinstall Twitter

It’s now time to look at the problem at a different angle because maybe it’s just a compatibility issue. But instead of updating the app, it’s best that you uninstall it from your phone to remove all its associations with other apps, services and the firmware. Then, download it and reinstall. This is how you uninstall Twitter from your phone:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Twitter.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

Now, to reinstall Twitter, follow these steps…

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘twitter’ in the search box.
  4. Select Twitter then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

More often, this is the end of this kind of problem. However, if by any chance the issue continues to bug you even after this procedure, then you really have to reset your device.

Fifth solution: Do the Master reset

If you badly need to use Twitter, then you need to do this procedure but if you can live without it or if you can’t reset your phone just yet, then don’t use Twitter for now or uninstall it from your phone. If you decide to reset your phone however, make sure you make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process and you may not be able to retrieve them after.

After the backup, make sure you remove your google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. If everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your device:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reset, install Twitter.
