How to fix Samsung Galaxy A8 2019 with a flickering screen (easy steps)

The screen flickering issue on your Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 or any Android phone for that matter may be due to a minor firmware problem or a serious hardware issue. The best way to know if it’s the latter is when your phone suffered physical and/or liquid damage prior to the problem. Assuming the phone’s physical integrity is intact and that you haven’t tried modifying the firmware in anyway, then the problem can be fixed using some basic troubleshooting procedures.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your phone that has a screen flickering issue. We’ll try to look into this problem a little closer to determine the cause why it’s doing this and to find a solution that will fix it for good. What to do about Galaxy A8 2018 screen flickering issue

To be honest, if this is a hardware problem, the best thing you can do about it is bring the phone to the shop so that a technician can check the extent of the problem. However, if you’re pretty sure that this issue isn’t due to a physical damage, then here’s what I suggest you do to try and fix it:

Force restart your phone

If you think this is just a normal reboot, well, it’s not. It’s far more effective than a normal reboot as it simulates battery disconnect that refreshes your phone’s memory, closes all apps running in the background that might be causing this problem and reloads all core services and functions. To do this, press and hold the volume down and power keys together for 10 seconds or until the phone reboots. Continue your observation to know if the screen still flickers after this. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Run phone in Safe mode and observe

We have to rule out the possibility that this problem is caused by one or some of the apps you installed. By running your Galaxy A8 2018 in safe mode, you’re actually temporarily disabling all third-party apps. If one of them is causing the problem, then the screen won’t flicker in safe mode.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

Assuming the problem is fixed in this mode, the next thing you should do is find the app or apps that causes it and uninstall it.

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list.
  4. To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

You may have to uninstall more than on app to fix this problem so be patient and keen observation is key to resolving this problem.

On the other hand, if the problem is still happening while in safe mode, it means that the problem could be in the firmware. The next two procedures you would have to do is for the system itself.

Delete all system caches

When caches get corrupted, various problems may occur and this is just one of them. You have to delete those files so that the system can replace them with new ones. Don’t worry, this will be done automatically and all you have to do is delete all system caches through recovery mode. Here’s how you do that…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem continues to bug you after this, then try the next solution.

Backup your files and reset your phone

This is your last resort. If the problem still persists after this, then you really have to bring it to the shop because it means the phone has some hardware issues. However, make sure you backup all your important files and data as they will be deleted during the reset. After the backup, disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your google account from your phone. After which, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
