Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:

Problem 1: Galaxy S6 edge Back and Recent buttons not working, keyboard won’t pop out

Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. The back button and recent apps button sometimes refuse to work.

Have issues with the keypad. Sometimes go to reply to a text or message and can’t get the keypad up. will also be on an app and phone decides to flicker through any recent apps i have used. Doesn’t happen constantly. All problems are “sometimes.” quick fix is to turn off phone and turn back on, but later on problems occur again. Have tried soft reboot but this doesn’t help either. any advice please? — Lisa

Solution: Hi Lisa. Has your phone been accidentally dropped, physically impacted, or dropped in water? If yes, all the issues you’re trying to address right now must be caused by bad hardware. We strongly recommend that you have the phone checked by a professional so it can be repaired or replaced. You can’t fix hardware malfunction with a software solution. Don’t waste your time and effort in things that won’t make any difference.

However, if the phone was never physically damaged by any of the three situations above and the problem just occurred out of the blue, software glitch may be to blame. We suggest that you try a factory reset to see if they’ll go away. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
  3. When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
  4. Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
  6. Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
  7. After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.

Problem 2: Galaxy S6 email issue, sends messages by itself

Two days ago my S6 started to send all email anytime I receive or send from my exchange server to my Comcast account but does not leave a sent email in my exchange account. I delete both Comcast and the exchange account down loaded new app xfinity and outlook so new apps and it still does it. it is like it forward the email to the Comcast account. but is not in the sent item of the exchange. how can I get this to stop? — Tom Martin

Solution: Hi Tom. This doesn’t look like a device issue. It may be a configuration issue with one of your email accounts, or there’s a problem with one of email service providers’ end. Make sure that you contact both email service providers so they can help you narrow down the causes.

As far as device troubleshooting for email issues is concerned, the most that you can do is to factory reset your phone, after you’ve cleared an app’s cache/data. Erratic behaviors of email are usually initiated in the server side so you’ll have to work with email providers to fix the them.

Problem 3: Galaxy S6 edge plus app not making notification, calendar app notification not working properly

Hello. I have a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. I am having two issues with it that I am looking to get help with.

The first has been an ongoing issue with receiving notifications from a specific app, Etsy Seller App. The other issue is more recent and it has to do with receiving notifications from the calendar app.

The Etsy app has the ability to send a notification that makes a “Cha-Ching” sound when an item from my online shop is sold. It no longer does this. I have checked the settings for the app itself, the settings for the phone notifications, I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, shutting down the phone and restarting the phone and nothing seems to help. I have emailed Etsy to see if this was a widespread issue that they were having with the app and was told that they were not aware of this being a problem. Etsy currently has two different apps. One for sellers and one that is geared towards buyers. I have both on my phone and I have done the steps that I stated earlier on both apps but it still is not corrected.

As far as the other issue I am having it is concerning notifications as well. The calendar apps that I have on my phone, the standard, preinstalled calendar app as well as the Google Calendar, are having the same problem. I use the calendars everyday and they are set up to remind me of events that are coming up. The apps used to work fine but now the notifications will buzz and then immediately disappear. For example, I had a reminder set for 9am this morning and my phone is sitting next to me. The phone vibrated and the notification sound alerted. But by the time I picked up my phone the screen was blank. I checked the calendar and I saw that I did have a reminder set for today. The only reason that I knew to check here was because i saw it happen before so I knew that was what it was. Unless the phone is next to me and I hear the notification sound then I have no idea that I get an event notification.

Do you have any reason why this could be happening? Have you heard of these issues before? I would really appreciate any help or assistance you could give me with this. Thank you.

One more thing. I’m not sure that this is relevant but the phone is from T-Mobile and we changed our carrier from T-Mobile to Metro PCS earlier this year. The problem with the calendar only happened within the last month or so. I can’t remember if the problem with the Etsy app was happening prior to the carrier switch or not. But like I said, I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the notification problems. I think it probably doesn’t but I figured I would let you know. Thanks again. — Nataliekizeridis

Solution: Hi Natalie. Both problems may have the same single cause. There’s really no way for us to know what the exact cause is since we don’t know the complete history of your phone as well as the status of its software and hardware. If you’ve already contacted the developer of Etsy app and they confirmed that the notification scheme you’re missing should still be working and not changed, then it must be a device issue. It can be due to a buggy third party app or an unknown operating system glitch. To check, please do a factory reset first. Before doing the reset, be sure to create a backup of your personal files.

Once you’ve factory reset the device and set it up again, be sure not to re-install your files right away. Install Etsy app and observe how it works when there are no other third party apps in the system. If it works normally and notifications function properly, you can bet one of your apps is to blame. Which one is for you to figure out though. You’ll have to install apps one by one, making sure that you observe how Etsy app works after every installation. This is the only way to identify problematic app.

The calendar app should already come pre-installed so after a factory reset be sure to check how its notification works too.

Problem 4: Galaxy S6 Samsung keyboard won’t work after an update

I just completed the most recent update (8/16/2017) for the Samsung S6 phone. Now I am unable to use the Samsung Keyboard. I can’t text, and can’t dial out on my phone. A notice keeps popping up, “Samsung Keyboard keeps stopping.” Close app.” How can I fix this problem? — Ken Rose

Solution: Hi Ken. Try wiping the cache partition first. Updates can sometimes mess up the system cache (stored in the cache partition). A corrupted system cache can lead to all sorts of problems. Wiping this partition will delete the current system cache and replace it with a new one over time. Here’s how:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If wiping the cache partition won’t solve the problem, delete the cache and data of the keyboard app you’re using. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
  2. Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
  3. Once in there, look for Samsung Keyboard app and tap it.
  4. You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more.
  5. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
  6. You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.

If both solutions won’t help, don’t hesitate to factory reset the device. Refer to the steps given above.
