How to troubleshoot your Galaxy S7 that won’t turn on
Problem: Samsung Galaxy S7 will not turn on. Was running fine but then when I picked it up to use it won’t turn on. Had the phone for nearly a year and never abused it, never dipped in water. Now, it won’t turn on. Try charging for thirty mins but still, pressing power button along with volume buttons but still won’t respond, trust me, I know how to force restart, reboot phone. Kindly help!
Solution: Based on your description that your phone is unable to turn on, there are number of possibilities to consider why this is happening. Firstly, if the battery is malfunctioning or totally drain that may be the reason your device could not boot up completely. Secondly, if you have an incompatible app installed and conflict the system that would be a factor that performance-related issues occur on your phone. So, to isolate the issue there are procedures that you should perform on your phone so that you can figure it out what really the problem is. These are the methods that you have to do:
Step 1: Charge your device until the battery is full
The purpose of charging the device is to figure it out if the battery is faulty or not. While it is connected to the charger try to see if it is responding or the charging icon appears on the screen. If so, then a drained battery may be the reason that your phone could not boot up successfully. However, if it is not responding after several minutes of charging try checking the charger and the USB cable to see if there are any bent pins or physical damage that might affect it’s charging performance.
On the other hand, while doing the method for several minutes and still the issue persists, leave the device plugging it in the charger and proceed to the next method.
Step 2: Restart your phone in Safe mode
While it is connected to the charger we will try to restart your phone in safe mode to figure it out if there’s an app triggered the issue. Through this method the third-party apps will be deactivated temporarily and only the built-in applications will be running in the system. If your phone boot up successfully while in safe mode, then obviously there’s a culprit you need to find and uninstall from the system. Here are the steps that you should follow:
- Press and hold the Power key.
- As soon as you can see the ‘Samsung Galaxy S7’ on the screen, release the Power key and immediately hold the Volume Down key.
- Continue holding the Volume Down button until the device finishes rebooting.
- You may release it when you can see ‘Safe mode’ in the bottom left corner of the screen.
Step 3: Boot your phone in Recovery mode
If your device still unable to boot in safe mode and buttons are unresponsive, then it’s time for you to restart it in recovery mode. In this mode, all hardware components will be powered up, so, if your phone does not have a damaged components, then it will boot up without a problem. If successful, you can actually do a couple of things that might just fix the problem; wipe cache partition and master reset. This is how to boot in recovery mode and wipe cache partition:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.
- When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx. 30 seconds later.
- Release all of the keys.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
- Press the Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
And this is how you do the master reset…
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Step 4: Send your device to the technician for repair
After all the procedure above and your phone still refuses to turn on, then you don’t have a choice but to bring it to the nearest shop in your area so that it can be checked by the technician. And since this is not covered by warranty, thus, you have to pay the tech’s service as well as buy the components needed for your device.
