Note 8 Randomly Crashes
Problem: My phone randomly crashed on me and performed a hard reset. I managed to successfully backup everything that I lost, but I wasn’t able to restore the fingerprint information .When I tried to reset the fingerprint lock, it stops at 80% and brings up an instruction video on successfully scanning the thumbprint (instructions I had known from before). The bottom half of the touch screen is extremely glitchy, but after a while it didn’t give me any problems; there is a “Continue” button underneath the video, and it won’t let me tap it or continue any further. I’ve restarted the phone multiple times and nothing has changed. Is there anything I can do?
Solution: If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing this as this could be causing the problem. You should also try doing a factory reset from the recovery mode. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet.
If the issue still occurs then this could already be caused by a hardware component that if failing to work properly. If this is the case then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 8 Freezes
Problem: Hi! I just started having the Samsung Note 8 freezing problem – in my case with the cover closed, always on display showing the clock. Given how many different scenarios people are reporting, this suggests a deeper o/s, firmware, or hardware bug/glitch. Which leads me to wonder about how one might turn on crash logging, and accessing crash logs – preferably without rooting the phone and installing all kinds of debug tools that would change the environment. Any pointers? Thanks!
Solution: Unless you root the phone then it is going to be difficult to access the event log of the phone. For the freezing issue that you are experiencing with the phone you should check if the troubleshooting steps listed below can fix the problem. After performing each step immediately check if the issue occurs and if it does you should proceed to the next step.
- Remove the microSD card of your phone.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 8 Screen Is Blank
Problem: Hello There, I have the Note 8 it is currently January and the minimum temperature goes to 13 degrees Celsius. In the early mornings and nights and when the phone is not exposed to heat, the screen just goes blank. The phone is functional but the screen is blank. The phone has two scratches on the display, but works perfectly once the screen turns on. Clarity and touch sensitivity are excellent. I have heard of the blank screen when cold problem from people in the US; but this is a tropical country and Bangalore is just a pleasant city. Samsung has not come out with any cause for this problem, which is very disappointing, since this is their flagship phone. Any suggestions will help. Thanks Much
Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to check if the issue is caused by a software glitch by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Remove the microSD card of the phone.
- Backup your phone data.
- Perform a factory reset from the recovery mode.
Once the above steps are performed do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this is most likely a hardware related problem already in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 8 Not Working With Bluetooth Selfie Stick
Problem: Please help me !! I have a Note 8 and have just purchased a wireless tripod selfie stick which I am having problems setting up and using. I’ve managed to pair them OK but using the remote that came with it is another storey. It turns on fine but when I press to take a shot it just says “Cannot zoom in or out in this mode” and there is no volume option in the settings of the camera app so that I can adjust it. I’ve been a through the settings in the camera and in the phone settings but there is no clue as to how to fix this. Can you perhaps tell me what to do so that I can use my selfie stick properly ? Thanks.
Solution: Make sure that you are pressing the shutter button on the selfie stick so that this will in turn activate the shutter button of the phone.
Make sure to make the necessary setting changes in the camera app.
- Open the Camera and select the three dots at the top left of the screen.
- Select the ‘Settings’ option.
- Scroll down and select ‘Volume button options’
- Change the setting to ‘Capture’
You should be able to capture photos now with your selfie stick.
In case the issue persists then you should try using a different Bluetooth selfie stick as the one you are using might have a problem.
Note 8 Not Getting Software Update
Problem: I have a Samsung Note 8 that used to run on the At&T network. It has been reset to factory settings and unlocked through At&t and I am using it now with my Tmobile sim card, but unable to update the software.. Please let me know if this is fixable since some online sources say I would need a At&t sim to update it. Thanks!
Solution: You should try connecting the phone to a computer with Smart Switch installed then check if you are able to do a software update.
Take note that you will only be able to update your phone software if the phone is not rooted, it is not running on a custom software, or if its Knox counter has not tripped.
In case the phone still does not update then try getting an AT&T Sim card and use it to update the phone.
You should also consider manually flashing the phone with its updated firmware file using Odin. You can get this file from the Sammobile website which should also have the instructions on how to flash your phone.
Note 8 Call Can’t Be Heard On Speakerphone
Problem: Hi I have a speakerphone issue. While I’m on a call I can hear the other person yet they can’t hear me. Google Assistant can hear me fine & so can Bixby using speakerphone. I have Wi-Fi calling disabled. The issue occurs on all calls over multiple networks. Cricket, T-Mobile & Sprint. I just bought this phone
Solution: For this particular issue I suggest that you first check if a software update is available then update your phone accordingly. If the phone is already running on the latest software version and the issue persists then you should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete check if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will need to have this checked at a service center.
