Note 5 Only Stays On When Plugged To Charger

Problem: My note 5 was only able to stay on when plugged in.  It would immediately shut off when unplugged.  I followed steps on this site and ended up doing a factory reset.  It now will stay on about a minute (give or take) when unplugged then it shuts off.  Battery showed 100% an hour ago but appears to have started again at 0% and working it’s way up again.  It does not go to 0% every time it is unplugged.  Appreciate any assistance.  Thank you!

Solution: Since you have already performed a factory reset then we can safely eliminate any software glitches that could be causing the problem. We are now left with two possibilities. The problem is either caused by a weak battery or a faulty power IC. Since checking both needs the phone to be opened it’s best to have this done at a service center.

Note 5 Battery Loses Charge

Problem: Phone loses 7% battery every time i restart phone after charging it to 100%. This happens when my phone is charged to 100% when switched off. Next day after switching on it shows battery as 93% full. Also the phone switched itself off while i was checking my voicemail and switched back on asking for starting password. After restarting battery charge which was at 40% changed to 12% and warning of low battery. It lost 30% battery charge. This has happened 2 or 3 times before but on previous times phone was on sleep mode. Since samsung stopped sending software update bug fix for android 6.01 marshmallow which used to solve my problem with battery charge loss, this problem occurs continuously and starting it in safe mood for 2 hours did solve the problem only for a short time. but problem exists and has even got worse. Now The battery loses 7% charge not just on the 100% as before but on any charge value above 50%. Otherwise when I switch the phone off with 50 or 60% charge, after switching it on the next day it shows 43% or 53% respectively in both case loses 7 percent charge. Can you offer a solution. And can you tell me why Samsung has stopped sending software update for its android marshmallow 6 and 6.01?’

Solution: The best way to fix this problem is to first check if this is caused by a software glitch by performing the steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then this could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • In case the issue occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Instead try checking if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this could already be caused by a faulty battery.

Note 5 Battery Drains Faster

Problem: Hi Team, It all started 2 weeks ago. I have Note 5 and have been happily using for over 3 years now. One fine morning I as usual started charging and it suddenly made sparking sound. I removed the charger . Tried restarting after a while and the same sound persisted for 5 sec and then stopped. I restarted but realized the speaker not working anymore. Later from that day battery drains faster mostly in nights when I don’t even use the phone. It gets heated more often. Sometimes while charging sometimes just like that. Please advise what solutions I can try.

Related Problem: Hi, I have a Galaxy Note 5, its about 1 year and 4 months old. recently have had a problem with it. I charge it to full capacity (100%), I barely use it but within an hour the battery drops to about 40%, when it reaches 40% or even 30% it automatically dies, and will only come on once i have it connected to a charger. Now i leave it on charge overnight and by the morning it charges to about 58 or 60% only. If i reboot the battery percentage then increases. As of today, I have just charged my phone to 98%, I checked whatsapp messages and it died instantly. i have also downloaded the latest software available for my phone. Any solutions?

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any app in your phone yet. Try to check first if the problem still occurs. If it does then this is already caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
