How to fix screen flickering issue on a Galaxy A8 Plus 2018

The key to fixing this problem is knowing what it’s all about. So, the procedures that we will do here will be first to find out what the factors that also contributed to the occurrence of this problem are then we’ll proceed to doing things that could fix the problem. But if everything else fails, you still have the option to bring the phone to the service center so that a technician can take a look at it and so some tests.

Run your phone in safe mode

The purpose is for you to know if the issue still occurs even with all third-party apps temporarily disabled. There are apps that can cause the screen to flicker especially games that intensively use your phone’s CPU and GPU. Assuming the screen doesn’t flicker in safe mode, then the problem is a lot simpler to fix than it may seem. Here’s how you run your phone in safe mode:

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the screen with the device name.
  3. When ‘SAMSUNG’ appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see ‘Safe Mode’.

If the problem doesn’t occur in this mode, the solution will be to find the app that’s causing the problem and uninstall it.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Apps.
  4. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap Menu icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

Boot phone in recovery mode and wipe cache partition

If the screen flickering started after a firmware update, then it’s possible that some of the caches used by the system has been corrupted or are already obsolete. The most logical thing to do is to deleted those caches so that they will be replaced with new ones. To do so, you simply have to start the phone in recovery mode and then wipe the cache partition which contains all system caches. Don’t worry, those files will be replaced automatically during the boot sequence.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key.
  4. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’.
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem still continues after this, then you have to do the next procedure.

Backup all your files and data then do the Master Reset

If the problem is due to a firmware issue, a reset will fix it but at the same time, it’s also a preparation because in case the problem won’t be fixed by this, you are ready to bring the phone to the service center will all your personal information wiped off from your phone. Prior to the reset, make sure you make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. Then disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone. After that, feel free to follow these steps to reset your Galaxy A8+ 2018…
