S7 Message Failed To Send After Software Update

Problem: When sending texts I get a message failed icon. The message is sent and received. Phone did a security update last night then the problem started. Carrier is Straight Talk using Verizon.

Related Problem: When I did the new update on my phone on 8/16, my phone will not send any messages.  I can receive messages but as I send them, it is delaying and then it sends back failed to send message.  Some of the text the recipient will text back as received but some they do not receive.  Really annoying

Related Problem: A couple of days ago every text i send says it failed but the people I’m sending them to are still receiving them. Everything else seems to be working correctly. I can’t do a soft reset because i can’t remove my battery. I have tried restarting the phone and powering it down completely. Nothing changed.

Solution: It appears that the latest update pushed to this device is causing text messaging problems. While the text message can be sent and received by the recipient an error message will appear on the phone stating that the message has failed to send. This looks to be a bug in the update which can be fixed with another update. What happens in this case is that the text message is sent by the phone and the tower receives it. The tower then forwards this message to the recipient. The tower however will not send a confirmation packet to your phone stating that the message has been sent thus the error message will occur. Since this is happening on various networks then it’s unlikely that the problem is on the tower side.

One workaround to this particular issue which has worked on consumers under the Verizon network is to change the network mode of the phone to CDMA only.

  • Settings
  • Connections
  • Mobile Networks
  • Network Mode…change it from LTE/CDMA to CDMA.

In case this fails to fix the issue then you should try doing a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

If the issue persists then you will have to check if a new update has been released to fix this problem.

S7 Error When Sending Text Message To Premium Number

Problem: Hello- When attempting to send a text to a 5-digit number on my S7 on Verizon, I get an error: “The process com.android.phone”.  I’ve tried making sure the permissions are set to full for the Samsung messaging app (the only permission that is turned off is location).  Any suggestions?

Solution: For this particular issue you will need to change the permission of the text messaging app to always send premium SMS.

  • Press the Menu key from the home screen.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select the More tab at the top right corner of your screen.
  • Select Application Manager.
  • Slide the screen to the All section.
  • Select Messages.
  • Under the Permissions section you will find a drop down menu with 3 options for Sending Premium SMS. Change the setting to Always Allow.

In case you don’t have this setting in your phone then your other option is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset send a premium text message. It will ask you for permission to send, choose the always option.

S7 Stopped Receiving Text Message From One Person

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and it has stopped receiving text messages from one person, also a Samsung Galaxy. They still receive my texts and calls come through. I did get 1 text through a group message. I have checked the message/number block and have restarted it a few times, neither were the problem.

Solution: If the number is not in the blocked list then the phone of the sender should be checked. If the sender is using an iPhone have them turn on the Send as SMS option from the Messages setting.

If the issue persists then you need to contact your carrier regarding this matter.

  1. Been encountering this problem… need to get this fixed! When sending texts I get a message failed icon. The message is sent and received. Phone did a security update last week then the problem started. I use Straightalk. Done factory reset and called customer service but troubleshooting didnt work. Frustrating and irritating.

  2. I’ve also tried setting the phone back to factory, reloaded it, tried setting to CDMA, etc. None of it fixes the problem. I’ve spoken to 3 people at straight talk about the issue. One of them even asked for my address to check for outages. I explained to her the the problem has been ongoing for about a week, since the last update. I travel 53 miles each way, to and from work. There’s no coverage outages anywhere in those locations. She kept prattling on how she needed an exact address, so I ended hanging up on her. It’s clear that Straight talk can’t fix the problem. It’s not a problem with straight talk, or Verizon. It’s a problem with SAMSUNG! I was just about to pull the trigger and purchase an S8-plus, too, but not after this kind of nonsense, and no communication from Samsung about the problem.

  3. I have tried everything too. I have factory reset and that’s aggravating to have to then set up whole phone again and still didn’t fix it! I changed my network mode to CDMA.and the first text went like it was suppose to, but then the next text I sent went right back to wheel turning and saying message failed. Even though it doesn’t!
    Please help!!!

  4. I have tires every thing suggested to fix my messaging after the update on my s7, it did not fix the the fail to send.. I have reset it twice. This is getting little out of hand..my message get to people an hour after I send.. I can not find a bug fix for this…please help..
