Note 5 Freezes Restarts
Problem: Hi, thank you for the great advice on your website. I have often found the solution to a problem. I have a Galaxy Note 5 that is 2 years old. Last fall it started freezing up and/or restarting. I started by uninstalling apps, clearing caches, etc. In November I did a factory reset. It’s been good till now. Started freezing and restarting again, till now it’s frozen and I can’t even do a hard reset with the volume, power, and home keys. The battery was at 98%. What do I do now? Is it the end of the phone? It’s current with updates and I think it’s running Nougat but I can’t even go look.
Solution: The best way to proceed in this case is to start the phone in recovery mode then from here perform a factory reset to eliminate any software related issues that could be causing the problem. Take note that this will erase your phone data. Do not install any apps in the phone after the reset instead check first if the issue still occurs. If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Lock Screen Is Black And Unresponsive
Problem: My Note 5 isn’t displaying the lockscreen. The screen works (camera works, screen lights up when restarted) and the charging LED turns off when the screen is on and on when the screen is off (as normal) Whenever the lock screen is on screen its black and I can’t unlock it. It also started happening when it started force downloading the VR app (I don’t have a VR headset) My phone died and wouldnt charge. Once it started charging, everything works fine but the lock screen is black and unresponsive. The screen even displays when my alarms go off. I don’t want to factory reset it but will I have to?
Solution: Before performing a factory reset ( which I think will help fix this problem) you can perform the troubleshooting steps listed below which could help fix this problem.
- Start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
If at this point the issue persists then I highly recommend doing a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.
Note 5 Failed to Mount Error
Problem: Have Samsung galaxy note 5, Having problems with phone turning on. Went to your troubleshooting page and did soft reset, etc. Tried to open in safe mode but tries but just ends up on black screen. Then tried recovery mode, and cleared cache that generated lots of red writing so did reboot, and is now in a loop of saying installing update, writing E: failed to mount /cache (no such file) and lots more red writing. Press reboot system again does lots of red writing and is currently just on black screen. Please help.
Solution: It looks like the phone software is already corrupt. The best way to address this problem is to flash the phone with its updated firmware file using Odin. You can get the firmware file from the Sammobile website which is also where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.
Note 5 Stuck In Verizon Boot Loop
Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy note 5 it was randomly shutting off and then it would get stuck in boot mode to the Verizon screen and loop back around, boot to Verizon screen, back around, etc. It would be 30-40% charged and suddenly die, showing the 0% screen with the plug and wall port (needs to be charged) icon. Then I would plug it in and it would show a lightning bolt for a second and suddenly, it would turn off and you could see a quick horizontal line flash throw the lightening bolt before it went black and would just vibrate, over and over, short vibrations as if it were Trying to boot, but there would be nothing on the screen. An indigo to blue light would flash and stay lit in the notification led area on the top left. I thought it was just being sensitive, bc I would plug it into my car charger and it would instantly boot up and work perfectly. I switched chargers for a while until I found one that worked with it, but last night while I was using it, it went black and won’t turn back on. It won’t even respond to any chargers now, but there is still some juice left in the battery so when I turn it on it is still stuck in the same boot loop. hElp!! Please
Solution: The best way to fix this problem is to first clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. Once this is done charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a charging cord and wall charger that is known to work. Disconnect the phone from its charger then simulate a battery pull which is done by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds.
If the phone is still stuck in the boot loop then start your phone in recovery mode then do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this could already be a hardware related problem in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Sim Card Has Been Added Please Restart To Access Mobile Network Error
Problem: Hi, My samsung galaxy note 5, Single Sim Slot had fallen into a bucket of water after which i had dried my phone with a hair dryer and soaking it in rice allowing all the water to go out. My phone is back on working perfectly fine however a message pops up on my screen very often saying. “Sim card card has been added please restart to access mobile network”. And once this comes up on the screen nothing else can be accessed on my phone leaving me with the option only to select restart and then the phone comes on again with the same message. Also the add volume button to increase the volume on the side of my phone doesn’t seem to work. I have tried adjusting my Sim making sure its placed in correctly but it doesn’t help. Also tried other sim cards but still keep having the same problem. I would really appreciate if you could help me fix these 2 problems which arose after my phone falling in water. Thank you.
Solution: For this particular problem you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the issue persists then this is most likely caused by a component in the phone that has been water damaged. You will need to bring this to a service center and have it checked.
