Hello and welcome to today’s #GalaxyS7 troubleshooting article. We want to help those having issues with app notifications so this is going to be the main topic in this post. We also cover two more issues so keep reading.

When describing your issue, please be as detailed as possible so we can easily pinpoint a relevant solution. If you can, kindly include the exact error messages you are getting to give us an idea where to start. If you have already tried some troubleshooting steps before emailing us, make sure to mention them so we can skip them in our answers.
Problem 1: How to fix Galaxy S7 missing app notifications issue
Hi. Hopefully you can help me. I was getting a lot of popup ads on my Galaxy S7 phone even when opening it up from the lock screen. And I had some issues with my phone not wanting to wake up or freezing, I’m assuming, as a result of these popup ads. Other than that it worked great.
So I did a soft reset which didn’t seem to help at all. I went on Google and changed my ads settings which only helped slightly. So I figured I’d just do a factory reset and start over, which I did. Now I’m not receiving ANY notification reminders in my notification tray aside from temperature from my weather app even though I have notifications from the apps I want them from turned on and set as priority and LED notification won’t work. I don’t use the stock messaging app because I didn’t like it and I use Textra for messaging. I didn’t have this problem until the factory reset and I don’t know what else to do. I need to know when I get a text or email but right now all I can do is just keep checking it. On the upside the ads have lessened considerably. — Stormie
Solution: Hi Stormie. There’s a few ways to set up notification settings for an app in Android. Since you did not mention if you’ve set up notifications for apps you’re having problems with properly or not, we’ll give you the steps on how to do that as well.
How to set up app notifications in Galaxy S7
There’s a few methods to configure notifications in an app in Android 6 (Marshmallow) and Android 7 (Nougat). For the sake of brevity, we’ll not give you all the routes but instead, only the one via Settings app. Here’s how to do that:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Select the app you want to set the notifications for.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Allow notifications to enable it.
- If you want to allow notifications to be shown on the lock screen, make sure to select Show content under On lock screen section.
- If you want your phone to make sound notification or vibrate when there’s incoming notification for this app, make sure that Show silently is OFF.
- Additionally, you can set your preferred notification sound in this screen by tapping on the blue circle with an “i” next to the name of the app.
Clear data of Badgeprovider app
These steps above should be enough to allow an allow to make sound or vibrate notifications. If the problem still persists, then you should clear the data of one app — BadgeProvider. BadgeProvioder app is one of the default apps in Android that alerts users of new things that they may want like new versions of apps, new missed call alerts, new messages, among other things. Clearing its data will not delete your messages though so it’s good way to kick off your troubleshooting. Just to be on the safe side, we suggest that you back everything up including your messages using Smart Switch.
To wipe the BadgeProvider app data, follow these steps:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to Apps. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
- Once in there, look for the application and tap it.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- Tap Clear Data.
Problem 2: Galaxy S7 won’t turn back on
Hi. So my device told me that it was overheated and I pt will turn back on in 10 seconds. But I waited for 5 minutes and nothing happened I then put my phone to charge and pressed the turn on button but on the screen appeared a blue cover and it said do not turn off the device and something about factory mood and other stuff. So I came to Android website and searched on how to fix it. I saw something that said master turn off something like that and it said press the off and on but and the on volume and off volume at the same time so I did it and it turned off but now it won’t turn on and I don’t know what to do please help. — Maria
Solution: Hi Maria. Given that your phone no longer powers on, you should focus your troubleshooting on how to power it back on. If you’re lucky enough and the issue is not due to a hardware malfunction in the phone, you should be able to revive it. Here are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do:
Check if it’s a display issue
Many smartphone users tend to mistake a bad screen issue with No Power issue. The first problem (bad screen) occurs when the screen remains black even if the phone still powers on. The latter (No Power) is indicated by total lack of response from the phone — no LED lights, no vibrate, no sounds, and a blank screen. These are two different issues and must be fixed separately. If your phone appears to charge and still shows signs of life, it’s possible that you have a black screen problem. In this case, you’ll need to have the screen repaired or replaced.
Try to use another set of charging cable and/or adapter
For any charging issue for any smartphone, it’s always logical to try a different set of charging cable or adapter to narrow down the possible causes. Some S8 users were able to fix their incomplete connection error issue by exchanging the charging cord. If you have a different charging cable to use, be sure to try it with your S8.
Charge the phone longer
Make sure that you allow the phone to charge for at least 30 minutes. This is especially important if the phone has been fully depleted. If the main reason for the trouble is battery’s failure to store enough charge, then this troubleshooting step should work.
Contact Samsung for support
Should all the suggestions above won’t help in fixing your problem, then you need to let Samsung know about it. At this time, we don’t have any data if this is fixable by repair or if you’ll end up with a unit replacement.
Problem 3: Galaxy S7 won’t sync with PC
I am trying to move all of my pictures/videos from my Samsung Galaxy S7 to my PC. I downloaded the Samsung USB tool. When I bring down notifications and choose either Transfer media files or Transfer images – I get this message: There’s nothing to import. We couldn’t find anything to import from that device. Make sure it is unlocked and try again.” What does make sure it’s unlocked mean?In the shadow background, I can see some of my pictures from my phone on the screen, so it IS finding pictures! Help please?Â I’ve been HOURS looking for answers!Â Really frustrating!Â Wasn’t even this hard when I had an iphone and had to fight with itunes all the time! — Diane
Solution: Hi Diane. “Unlocked” in this context means that your phone’s screen is locked and you need to unlock it to allow your computer to access the storage device. To unlock your phone, just turn the screen back on and unlock it using your PIN, pattern, or whatever.
On another note, make sure that you use Samsung Smart Switch app when moving your files from your S7 to PC. We don’t know if you’re referring to Smart Switch when you say Samsung USB tool. Smart Switch is the only official app recommended by Samsung to sync your S7 with a PC.
