The adaptive fast charging feature of your S8+ works automatically and as I said earlier, requirements must be met for it to work:
- You should use the original AC adapter and cable
- The screen should be turned off
- The phone should not heat up while charging

Troubleshooting Verizon Galaxy S8+ that’s charging so slow
Problem: Hello my Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has fast charging problem it is been over month now and whenever I charge my phone it charges too slow and I try whatever I can do in setting for batt but nothing works and i’m so upset with this. Please let me know what I can do to fix this.
Troubleshooting: First off, I just want you to know that your phone has two charging modes: regular charging and fast charging. Just because you’re seeing the notification that your phone is fast-charging doesn’t mean it actually does but looking at the brighter side of things, the phone is still charging and with that, I think there’s always something we can do about the problem. Now, here’s fact, if your Galaxy S8+ takes around 2 to 3 hours to fully-charge its battery, it’s on regular charging and there’s no problem with that. But if it fully-charges its battery for 4 hours or more, then there’s a problem.

Again, this is what we call “regular” charging wherein the AC adapter uses the 5 Volts and 2 Amps of current to replenish the battery. Without the adaptive fast charging capability, this is all you can get from mobile chargers. If this is what you call “slow charging” then you’re lucky since you actually don’t have a problem. To enable fast charging, try to follow these steps first.

- Navigate to Apps > Settings.
- Touch Search, then search for and select Battery.
- Touch More Options.
- Touch Advanced settings.
- To turn on Fast cable charging, touch the slider.
How to make your Galaxy S8+ use the Adaptive Fast Charging
After making sure fast charging is enabled in your phone, try to do these things to see if you can make your phone charge fast…
Step 1: Turn off the phone and let it charge
This is the best way to know if your phone is still capable of fast charging. If the feature is working while your phone is powered down, then try the next step.
Step 2: Turn on your phone without unplugging it
We already know your phone charges fast so power it up while it’s still plugged in. At the same time, be mindful to know if it heats up or not because once it heats up, fast charging is disabled automatically to prevent further damage to your phone.
Step 3: Turn the screen off and allow the phone to charge
The screen must be turned off so that you can enjoy the fast charging capability of your phone. I understand you may have to use your phone from time to time while charging but if you’re not using it, allow it to replenish its battery while the screen is off.
Step 4: Use different charger
You only have to do this if your phone is still not charging fast even if you already made sure all requirements are met. It’s possible that the charger is already damaged or defective out of the box. Better yet, bring your phone back to the store and let the tech check it for you.

If it takes more than 3 hours to charge your phone, then you got yourself a real problem as that’s clearly a case of “slow charging.” However, this kind of problem might be rooted to some minor issues. For instance, there could be a lot of apps running in the background that uses more battery, the phone may be suffering from a system glitch that results to fast draining of the battery, etc. The point is we need to troubleshoot your phone so that we would know for sure what the real problem is and with all that being said, here’s what I suggest you do:
Step 1: Try charging your phone while in safe mode
One of the possibilities is that there are apps that cause this problem so we have to rule it out first and foremost. Start your phone in Safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps and then charge your phone while it is in that state:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
- When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Assuming the phone charges fast while in this mode, then it’s clear one or some of the third-party apps is causing the problem. Try rebooting your phone in normal mode without disconnecting the charger. If it charges fine this time, then problem solved, otherwise, you need to find the app that causes the problem and uninstall it.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Apps.
- Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
- Tap the desired application.
- Tap Uninstall.
- Tap Uninstall again to confirm.
Step 2: Power down your phone and charge it
Assuming your phone still not charging fast while in safe mode, the next thing we have to know is whether or not it charges when everything in it is powered off and the system isn’t running. So turn your phone off and then connect the charger. You may have to allow the phone to reach 90% to be able to assess if it’s charging fast or not based on how much time it took to reach such percentage.
If it’s still charging so slow, then you may need to reset your phone to rule out the possibility of a firmware issue.
Step 3: Backup your files and data and reset your phone
If there’s a problem with the firmware or the system, slow charging is just one of the things you may encounter. At this point, you will need to reset your device to rule out such possibility and if after the reset the phone is still not charging the way it used to, then that’s the time you have to bring it back to the store and have it checked. But before that, make sure you make a backup of your important files and data. After the backup, disable the Factory Reset Protection so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset.
How to disable Factory Reset Protection on Galaxy S8+
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Cloud and accounts.
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Google.
- Tap on your Google ID email address if multiple accounts are setup. If you have multiple accounts setup, you will need to repeat these steps for each account.
- Tap 3 dot icon.
- Tap Remove account.
- Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.
How to do the Master Reset on Galaxy S8+
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
