S6 Gets Hot After Charging Overnight

Problem: The last 3 days I noticed a sharp increase in the temperature of the unit in the AM after charging overnight… Is this symptomatic of a degrading situation? Should I worry about this thing bursting into flames? Please advise. I have restarted the device ran Avast power saver, etc…

Solution: When you charge your phone sometimes the battery might heat up a little. This becomes a problem however if your phone will get too hot. One possible reason why your phone gets hot is because you are leaving it charging overnight. Ideally, you will want to unplug the phone from its charger once the battery is full. By leaving the phone connected to its charger overnight you are overcharging the device and placing unnecessary stress on the battery. This becomes a bigger problem if you are not using the charging cord and wall charger that came with your device as the phone could potentially get damaged.

What you will want to do right now is to observe if the phone still gets hot when you charge it until the battery reads 100% which should be around two hours. In case the phone still gets hot  you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Let the battery drain to around 10% then charge it again. If the phone does not get hot then the problem might just be caused by a software glitch. Otherwise, the problem might already be caused by a faulty battery. It’s best to have this problem checked at a service center.

S6 Not Turning On After Getting Wet

Problem: Hello! I accidentally spray some water on my Samsung Galaxy S6. I turned off the phone right away and put it into a rice bag. After about 1 day 2 nights, I took it out and see that it’s out of battery. I tried to plug it in to turn it on, nothing happened. I pressed the power button quickly 15 times trying to reset it, the Samsung welcome screen turned on but off right away, showing a black screen with a battery that has a lightning symbol inside. I left it for a few minutes but it didn’t change to the charging symbol (battery with green thing bubbling and % charging). I unplugged, the screen is now black with a white/lilac solid led on. I tried plug in again and pressed power 15x again but nothing came up. Do you have any suggestions for me to fix this? Thank you!

Solution: It’s a good thing that you placed the phone in a bag of rice since the rice will absorb any moisture inside the phone. Once the moisture inside the phone has dried out the next step is to turn on the phone. In this case your phone will not turn on. What you will want to do next is to make sure that the battery has sufficient charge to power on the phone by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed as this could cause charging problems.
  • Charge your phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charging cord and wall charger. Make sure that the charging cord and wall charger have been tested to work on another device. Once this is done try turning on the phone.
  • If the phone does not turn on then perform a simulated battery pull. This is done by pressing and holding the power and volume down button for at least 10 seconds.
  • Try starting the phone in recovery mode. If the phone starts in this mode then you should perform a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then it’s very likely that your phone has suffered from water damage. The best way to proceed in this case is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S6 Will Not Turn On

Problem: Hi I have a Samsung S6 – on thursday it wouldn’t turn on the blue left hand light was on but no screen. I charged it overnight and most of Friday and it came on Friday but is now not turning on. I am getting a new phone next week but could really do with this phone getting turned on so I can do a quick switch of all my info from the old phone to new one. Such as my photos and contacts mainly. I am currently charging my phone and I’ve been doing so for past 3 hours but still no joy.

Related Problem: Phone will not power up. I have tried holding volume up and down along with power and main button all in different sequences as suggested… I have tried pushing the power button repeatedly and it still won’t power on.

Solution: Try turning on the phone by pressing and holding the power and volume down button for at least 10 seconds. Normally, your phone will restart after this. In case your phone does not start proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air making sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port.
  • Charge the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger for at least 20 minutes before turning it on.
  • If the phone does not turn on then charge then try connecting it to a computer USB port and after a few minute try turning it on.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might already be caused by a bad battery or faulty power IC. The best thing that you can do right now to recover the data in your phone is to have this device checked at a service center.

S6 Is Not Charging

Problem: My battery was low so I put it on the charger, but then my phone died. I put the phone back on the charger and the lightning bolt popped up for about 30 sec but the dot indicating charging speed never can on neither did a light at the top of the phone. I tried different chargers but nothing happened. I do have a fast charging charger.

Related Problem: So, suddenly my phone won’t charge and after awhile it charged. Then a black ad with an x on it appeared it froze my phone for 10 sec then when i plugged my phone again doesn’t charge. After i tried to hold power button and volume down it charged again. Then again after a couple days doesn’t charge then charges. I have s6

Solution: You should try cleaning the charging port of your phone first using a can of compressed air making sure that ay dirt or debris stuck in the port is removed. After this you should try charging the phone again using different charging cords and wall chargers. You should also check if the phone can charge from a computer USB port.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

S6 Gets Extremely Hot When Charging

Problem: Plugged my s6 in last night. This Morning I picked it up and it was so hot I could barely touch it. Even after cooling off it will not turn on. The charging port is all black. I am wondering if the phone is toast. Literally

Solution: There is a short circuit somewhere in the phone possibly caused by a faulty battery, faulty charging port, or faulty charger. This is a potentially dangerous issue which could cause the phone to catch fire. Do not charge this phone. Bring it immediately to a service center and have it checked.
