With the #Samsung #Galaxy #Note4 reaching its third year this October since it was first released, owners of this phone will most likely be familiar with any hiccup that the phone brings. Designed as a flagship model, this phone was one of the most powerful Android devices when it was released. Although it can’t compete against the current high-end models released in the market this phone can still hold its ground against some of the recent mid-range smartphones. Despite being known as a reliable phone there are still instances when certain issues can occur which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series, we will tackle the Galaxy Note 4 gets hot when charges issue & other related problems.

Note 4 Gets Hot When Charged Issue
Problem: I’ve had my Samsung galaxy note 4 since March 2017 it gets pretty hot when it’s on charge , it dies without any reason, it does not stay charged the way it should I constantly have to charge it. this is one of the worst phones I ever owned
Solution: A phone that gets hot when charged is a potentially dangerous issue since it can cause burns or has the possibility of exploding ( remember the Note 7 incident?). For this particular problem the first thing to consider is that the problem is caused by a faulty battery since you mentioned that the phone deis without any reason and that you constantly have to charge it. Get a new battery then check if the same issue occurs. If it does then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does then try removing it as this might be causing the problem.
- To check if dirt or debris present in the charging port is causing the problem you should clean the port using a can of compressed air.
- Try charging the phone using a different charging cord and wall charger.
- To check if a software glitch is causing this problem then you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this could already be a hardware related issue in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Turned Off During Update Keeps On Rebooting
Problem: Ok so my phone was doing an update and it died during the update ever since it shuts down will not restart or will reboot over and over or i would get a download error and it will say downloading don’t shut down then it will get hot and shut off and if it shuts down it will not charge. very Frustrating sometimes it will turn on and i will not have an issue for a short amount of time. I took it to AT&T and they said i should hook it to my computer and download a new boot program. because they do not do that and do not know anyone who does my fear is downloading a virus do you know of any safe places to download this program.
Solution: Because the issue started after an incomplete update then it’s very likely that the problem is caused by a software glitch. Before doing any troubleshooting make sure to have a backup of your phone data. If you can backup your phone data using Kies then do it before proceeding.
What you will want to do first in this case is to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Once this is done follow this up with a factory reset. After the reset has completed do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file using Odin.
You can get the firmware file from the Sammobile website which is also where you can get the instructions on how to flash your phone.
Note 4 stuck In Boot Logo
Problem: my samsung note 4 stuck in logo when boot. after that i did the factory reset , wipe cache and try to reboot the phones. but unfortunately it still not working. i decide to downloading another firmware and i operate it using odin. after that the odin said that my process was failed. than it said firmware upgrade encountered an issues. after that i pull out the batteries and try to switch on back. Then the screen shows nothing even i charged that there is no notification appear such batteries icon appear. so what i need to do now? can my phone be fixed? thank you
Solution: When you attempted to flash the phone the process might have corrupted the phone software causing this issue. Odin might have failed to update the phone software due to some hardware related issue which could be caused by any of the following.
- Faulty USB cord. ( Try using a different USB cord)
- Faulty computer USB port. ( Try flashing your phone while it is connected to a different USB port)
- Corrupted firmware file. (Download the firmware file again from a different source)
- Corrupted Odin software. ( Reinstall Odin)
- Problem with the computer ( Try using a different computer)
- Problem with the phone charging port. ( Clean the charging port of your phone).
What you will want to do right now is to eliminate the above factors first.
If the issue still persists then this could already be a hardware related problem in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Turns Off when Removed From Charger
Problem: Hello. I have a note 4 I have not used for almost a year. I gave it to my son for his 13th birthday and all of a sudden it won’t stay on. It turns on and off over and over again. If it is on the charger it will turn on but as soon as you take it off the phone turns off. Help!!!
Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to get a new battery and replace the battery that the phone is using. This way you can immediately eliminate any battery related issues that could be causing the problem. In case the issue still occurs after getting a new battery then the next step is to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. To do this you will have to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might already be caused by an internal component that is failing to work, possibly the power IC. If this is the case then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Not Charging To 100% After Software Update
Problem: Note 4 updated to marshmallow, now it won’t charge to 100% except when battery pulled then reinstalled. Phone will also die when it was just reading battery at 19%. Once in awhile phone will also get really hot and battery will rapidly drain when nothing is running and screen is off. Tried cache wipe, and factory reset. Any help is appreciated
Solution: Since you have already tried a factory reset then the next step is to troubleshoot the phone hardware by following the steps listed below.
- Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure that any dirt or debris stuck in this port is removed. Once this is done check if the issue still occurs.
- Get a new battery.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 4 Rapid Battery Drain
Problem: Rapid battery drain; at home signal bounces between 4G LTE and 1X or starts on 4G and changes to 1X after several minutes and does not reconnect to 4G unless put in airplane mode, then same thing happens again (solid 4G connection until about a week ago); calls dropping; when trying to clear cache partition, getting android icon and says “Installing System Update” followed by “No Command” (then able to access menu and clear cache…have done several times, has not helped); Bluetooth and WIFI working fine and haven’t noticed any “rogue” apps
Solution: One of the main contributing factors of a battery drain issue is a weak network signal. In this case you mentioned that the phone constantly switches from 4G LTE then switches to 1X. When this happens the phone uses more power needed for the antenna to have a stable signal. What you will want to do first in this case is to try going to a different location where the network signal is strong. Check if the issue still occurs on your phone in this area. If it does then the next step is to troubleshoot the phone. What you will want to do is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
