Note 4 Cannot Send Text Message Using Stock Messaging App

Problem: I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note several months ago with Net10 service.I noticed that I could receive text messages but couldn’t send them on the stock messaging app. I could use Hangout all day but didn’t really like it so I downloaded a couple others, like 5 more. They all did the same thing! I could receive messages but not send them. I looked at the APN settings and it looks like the phone was originally with AT&T and I downloaded Net10 APN settings so that should be right so I have no clue what to so. I’ve started it in safe mode and tried to text but it wouldn’t do it in safe mode either. I’m scared to do a factory reset but I guess that’s my last option. Also I downloaded Text now and they give u another # and I can text message anybody on my phone but different #. I have also noticed that my phone is getting hot now and the battery isn’t working as well either. I hope that was enough info so PLEASE help me out with this.

Solution: What you will want to do in this case is to make sure that your phone is using the correct message center number. This number is unique for every carrier and is required for you to be able to send out a text message.

To access this setting from your phone

  • Tap Messages.
  • Tap the menu icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Text messages.
  • Tap on Message Center

If I am not mistaken this number should be +13123149810. You can also contact Net10 to verify if this is still the message center number that they are using.

Regarding the phone getting hot and the battery not working well you will need to perform some additional troubleshooting steps to determine what is causing this problem.

  • If your phone has a microSD card installed then try removing this as this could be causing the problem.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is an uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.
  • Backup your phone data then do  factory reset.

Note 4 Not Receiving Text Message

Problem: My mom has a note 4. It was previously mine but I switched to an s8+ and gave her my note 4. We went out of town this last weekend and we had no service because the town we were in is so small. We got back in town where we live and ever since we got back the next day she stopped receiving text. I been texting her and she hasn’t been getting anything since that day. She can’t send text, make phone calls, receive calls, literally everything is fine. So I read some stuff you guys suggested. From doing the spam thing, and safe mode, to even factory resting her phone and she still does not receive text…

Solution: Try taking out the SIM card of the phone then insert it in another device. Check if the same issue still occurs. If it does then the problem could either be with the account or the SIM card in which case you will need to contact the carrier regarding this matter.

In case the problem does not occur when the SIM is inserted in another device then we could be looking at a hardware related problem. If this is the case then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Text Messages Keep On Disappearing

Problem: My text messages keep disappearing and then reappearing later on and I’m just using the phone normally!! I have just had the phone off for half an hour with the battery out and this seems to have brought the messages back bizarrely!!

Solution: It’s possible that this problem is caused by some form of software glitch. Perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem. After performing each step immediately check if the issue still occurs and if it does you should proceed to the next step.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app that you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Not Receiving Text Messages From Certain Numbers

Problem: have problems receiving texts from certain numbers but not all the time most problems seem to come from specific geographical locations ie my son (also has a note 4) from brick town nj  other phones do this  from this area had problem in idaho also phone has been shut down problem persists weird part is it is not all the time- is there also a way to recover lost texts.

Solution: This appears to be a network related problem already which can be caused by a weak signal or a network activity. If you noticed the problem occurring when people from a certain area try to send you a text message then  the problem could be caused by a network issue in that area. The best thing that you can do right now is to inform your carrier regarding this problem so that they can check this out.

There’s also a possibility that the problem is caused by your phone in which case the following troubleshooting steps should be performed. After performing each step immediately check if the issue still occurs and if it does you should proceed to the next step.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app from the application manager.
  • Check if the issue occurs when the phone is started in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t occur then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Cannot Delete Old MMS Message

Problem: Unable to delete old MMS message (dated October 2015!). When I clear all of the logs, I’m still left with what appears to be an MMS message, but it’s addressed to an email address, not a phone number. The email address is listed as is, an email address, despite this being my wife’s email and her details are in the phone. I cannot add it to a contact, the contact created contains no details. I cannot update my wife’s details with it either (even when i change the original email to a dummy email). I think this message originates from when I first got the phone and mistakenly tried to share something, and it tried to go via MMS. (doesn’t help that email and message icons swap positions now and then). I’ve tried clearing Messaging cache to no avail. Please advise

Solution: Are you trying to delete the message from the stock messaging app? If so then try starting the phone in Safe Mode then delete the message from here. If it is still present then you should consider backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset.

Note 4 Can’t Delete Voicemail Message

Problem: I have 1,600 voice mails that I can’t deliver. Surely there is a way to delete them. After listening to them, there is no “delete” option. Only “archive”. I have a Note 4 and use Verizon. Please help. I’m too old to change phones.

Solution: If you have the basic voicemail then dial *86 to get to the voicemail and then press 1 to listen. At the end of the voicemail, press 7 to delete the message. If you have the Visual Voicemail then just press the Voicemail icon on the phone to see what message you want to delete.
