Problem 1: Galaxy S6 mobile data won’t turn off after Nougat update
Hello. I have just updated my Samsung Galaxy S6 to Android 7.0 (it was a recommended update, I just pressed ok) and now, after the update I have an issue that is bothering me: the mobile data connection is ON even if I set it on OFF. So, practically, I can connect to internet using my mobile data no matter how the mobile data button is set (on or off). Considering that my mobile data is limited and I usually open it just when I need to search something on internet, that issue is really annoying and I have to put my phone on sleep mode, which again is o problem, because in this case I can’t be contacted. Solution: Hi Cosma. Try to delete the system cache first. This is often an easy and effective way to deal with minor issues following an update. Here’s how it’s done:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
In some cases, clearing the current system cache won’t work because there are other reasons aside from a corrupted cache. We suggest that you do a factory reset if wiping the cache partition won’t work. Here’s how:
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Volume Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
Problem 2: Galaxy S6 edge never received Nougat update
Hi. My Galaxy S6 edge phone (SM-G925F) hasn’t received any update notification for Android 7 (Nougat). I tried to trigger the update manually by going to Settings -> Check for updates but then the phone tells me that everything is up to date. The phone was bought in France, it updated nicely from Android 5 to 6 in the past and I never flashed it, so I don’t understand why it doesn’t receive the update notification :/. I just reset it to factory settings but it didn’t solve the problem. Can you help me to solve my problem ? 🙂 — Micka
Solution: Hi Micka. You won’t normally receive over-the-air (OTA) update, that is an update provided by a carrier, if your phone does not come from them. You’ll have to wait for Samsung to push the update to your device, which, in most cases, can take ages. The older your device is, the longer the time a user will have to wait for said update since newer devices tend to receive updates first. And no, there’s nothing that we can do to influence Samsung to update your device. If you can’t wait for Samsung to update your phone, we suggest that you do some research on how to flash Nougat to it.
Problem 3: Galaxy S6 edge stuck in boot loop after unrooting
Hello. I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge for the first time yesterday using the King Root app. Later, I decided I didn’t want it anymore so I uninstalled it. Then I checked with an app that tells you if your phone is rooted and it said it was so it suggested I use another app called SuperSU or something like that and I did. It warned me that my phone could go into a reboot and it did. Now my phone is stuck on the powering up stage like when you turn it on for the first time. All it does is flash the Samsung logo and won’t turn on. I tried to hold the power button and it does nothing. It’s been a whole day and I am worried. Please help. — Isaac
Solution: Hi Isaac. Your problem is one of the reasons why unofficial modifications to devices are never supported official by Samsung. There’s a lot of variables that can cause an issue like this and unfortunately, there’s no easy way to know where the problem lies. Since the problem appears to have occurred after you installed a third party app, we suggest that you contact the app developer for support.
You can also try to see if flashing the bootloader and/or firmware back to stock will help. Sometimes, this procedure works so it’s a must do if ever you can’t find any support from the app developer.
Below are the sample steps on how to flash a bootloader. Exact steps for your device may vary so make sure to consult other guides so you’ll know how to do it properly. The steps below are only for demonstration purposes:
- Look for the correct firmware for your phone model and download it. Make sure that you select the right one. It should be the same exact firmware that ran previously on your device. We assume that you list down the firmware version somewhere. If you did not take note of it before, there’s a chance that you may pick the wrong one. As you may know now, using an incorrect firmware can cause complications so good luck with that.
- Let’s now say that you have identified the correct firmware. You then want to download it to your computer. The firmware file should have a bunch of files in it like AP_, BL_, CSC_, etc.
- Look for the file that starts with a label BL; this should be the corresponding bootloader file for this firmware. Once you’ve identified the bootloader file, copy it to your computer’s desktop or to any other folder that you can easily access.
- Proceed with the rest of the flashing procedure using the Odin program.
- In Odin, click on the BL tab and make sure to use the bootloader file you’ve identified earlier.
- Now, make sure that the “Device Added” status and its “ID:COM box” has turned blue before hitting the START button. This will initiate the flashing of your phone’s bootloader.
- Restart the phone once the procedure is finished.
Problem 4: Wet Galaxy S6 screen is grainy, won’t charge
My phone got wet (not submerged in water) and when i turn it on it’s sort of grainy (with blue, red and green dots). The phone also shows that it’s charged for a split second then uncharges. i opened the slot of the SIM card and it was sort of wet. I shook the phone and a little bit of water came it. the LD indicator in the SIM card slot is pink. is there anything i should do? i have it in rice right now and the phone is off. Thanks for the help. — Natasha
Solution: Hi Natasha. First off, your S6 is not water resistant so even a tiny amount of water or moisture inside can lead to problems.
Secondly, if the screen and charging issues follow right after exposing your device to water, the phone must be sent in for repair or replacement. Yes you can dismantle and dry the device yourself but that’s only part of the entire diagnostic process. Putting the device in a bag of rice may not help at all since you’re supposed to open the phone up first and remove the battery before doing it. Leaving the battery inside a wet phone can short other components or the motherboard. We know you can’t just open the phone up and remove the battery that’s why you need someone with experience and expertise to do that for you. Hopefully, once the battery is removed and phone dried, the problems will go away.
Finally, water exposure almost always leads to permanent problems. It can both cause short- and long-term effects. For example, the motherboard got wet and has developed corrosion at this time, it’s only a matter of time before you experience more severe problems until the phone eventually dies. Letting a technician check the phone will let you know if there’s high likelihood of problems from developing later on, or if it’s better to simply have the phone replaced.
Problem 5: Galaxy S6 screen stays black, not showing anything
I have an S6 so I am unable to pull out the battery to attempt to fix the problem. Last night my phone said it was overheating, and that it was going to stop the charging, and what it needed to help it cool down. I closed everything and left the phone alone. This morning, the screen will not display anything. The notification light is blinking as if there is a message, other than that it will not do anything. I tried turning it off, but it will not turn off. Any advise?
On the questions below for the Android version, I am not sure which one it on the phone so I just picked something. — Katrina
Solution: Hi Katrina. To check if this is a problem caused by an unknown Android bug, try to boot the phone to either Recovery Mode or Download Mode. If the screen works in any of them, do a factory reset and see what happens from there.
If you’ll be unable to boot to any of the mentioned modes at all, or if the screen stays black (so you won’t know if doing different hardware button combinations work), you’re out of luck. You must send the phone in so the hardware can be checked. If you’re lucky and the issue is isolated in the screen only, replacing it may bring back the phone to its normal state.
Below are the steps on how to boot your phone to either Recovery Mode or Download Mode:
Boot in Recovery mode:
- Charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume UP keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy logo shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume Up keys.
- When the Android logo shows, you may release both keys and leave the phone be for about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, navigate through the options and highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- You can either wipe the cache partition or do a factory reset when in this mode.
Boot in Download Mode:
- Charge the phone for at least 30 minutes.
- Press and then hold the Home and Volume DOWN keys, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Samsung Galaxy logo shows on the screen, release the Power key but continue holding the Home and Volume DOWN keys.
- Wait until the Download screen appears.
- If you can boot the phone in download mode but not in other modes, that means that your only way out may be to flash a stock or custom firmware.
- Use Google to look for a guide on how to do it.
Problem 6: Galaxy S6 won’t charge, won’t turn on
Good day sir. Today, I’m having a big problem with my Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. My phone won’t charge, wont turn on. I’d tried to perform the hard reset by pressing Vol (+ ) Power Key not working, Vol (- ) Power Key, not working, Vol (+ ) home key then Power Key not working, Vol (- ) home key then Power Key not working. I’d tried to search in Google on how they force to start their phone, also on how they do a hard reset 🙁 Mobile brand: Samung [SM-G925F]Â will you help me on how to fix me phone? — Farhan
Solution: Hi Farhan. If your phone won’t respond to any hardware button combinations, then there’s nothing more that you can do. There’s no software magic that you can do to force your phone to boot back up in this case. The only way to turn on a Samsung device is by pressing the power button or a combination of other buttons. Period. You should let a professional check the hardware to see if it can be revived.
In some rare cases, the main reason why a phone fails to boot is a fully drained battery as the charger is defective. Make sure that you use another known working charger before sending the device in.
Problem 7: Galaxy S6 encountering errors after installing TWRP
Hello. Around last October, I attempted to root my phone and made some fatal mistake. I am not sure where, but I was using TWRP. My phone now has these error codes, in the exact order as follows. No Support SINGLE-SKU Supported API: 3 E:Failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) E:Failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) E:Failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument) dm-verity error Any help at all would be much appreciated!! — Ian
Solution: Hi Ian. We are not TWRP developers so we can’t give you any specific solution to the errors you encounter. The most that we can suggest is that you flash all software (bootloader, firmware, etc.) back to stock. If you don’t want to do that and you want to fix the issue without removing TWRP from the system, we suggest that you contact the software developer or engage the community by asking questions in forums that discusses TWRP.
Problem 8: Galaxy S6 in-call volume via Bluetooth not working
Hi! My Galaxy S6 used to work great via Bluetooth with my car’s Uconnect. Then one day the in-call volume just stopped working. It still rings, announces and connects the call like normal, I can stream music, it accesses my phonebook, but when I answer a call it is just silent. I have to transfer it to my phone to get the call sound connection. Now I have a 2017 Jeep and am having the same issue. AT&T techs couldn’t figure it out, Samsung CC was useless and since it does every other bluetooth function fine it is obviously not a pairing issue. Everything is up to date. Any ideas? — Brishrier
Solution: Hi Brishrier. You should treat this problem like any other phone issue. Basically, you are limited to doing basic software troubleshooting only. If those possible software solutions won’t work at all, there must be a deeper reason for the problem such as unknown Android glitch or coding-related bug.
The first software troubleshooting that you should try is the cache partition wipe. If nothing changes after doing it, you can check if a third party app is causing it by restarting the phone to safe mode. Here’s how to do that:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
If the problem remains even when the device is on safe mode, you must then try a factory reset. This is the most that you can do. Refer to the steps above on how to do it.
Problem 9: Galaxy S6 submerged in water won’t charge and won’t turn back on
My phone was submerged in water for about an hour. It was inside an otter box but that didn’t protect it. I was able to get it in a cup of rice about 45 mins later. It was in rice for about 24 hrs before it was put on the charger and turned back on. When it was on the charger the battery jumped from 0% to 100% instantly. The phone turned back on then shut off right away. It is now in rice again. This time I was able to submerge it in a lotÂ more rice.Â I do not see where the water damage indicator is so I am not able to tell if it is white or red. Also, I took the SIM card out while it is in rice. What should I do now? — Tiffany.m.fenwick
Solution: Hi Tiffany.m.fenwick. As what we tell Natasha above, an S6 does not enjoy water resistance protection. Also, Otter Box cases are, well, only cases. Using them don’t provide water resistance to a phone. That said, the best thing that you can do right now is to stop whatever tricks you’re doing (dump that rice) and let a professional assess the hardware for you. We can’t help you in this case either. There’s no amount of advice we can give you to fix a water-damaged phone. A technician needs to physically inspect the phone so you’ll know if it can still be saved. So, again, stop whatever you’re trying to do and start working on having that device checked as soon as possible.
Problem 10: Galaxy S6 won’t send SMS after deleting some texts and photos
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6. I have gotten the notification my device is running low on space. I deleted several long text threads and also a good deal of photos from the Gallery. Since doing this, when I send texts they are sent but won’t deliver and I also don’t receive any. I can however make phone calls….not sure what is going on, any help would be appreciated. Solution: Hi Bobbieanngreer. We can’t see any reason why deleting some SMS and photos will affect the texting function of your phone, unless of course, you also deleted some critical system files in the process. To check if this a simple messaging app bug, try to wipe the app’s cache and data first. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings menu either through your notification shade (drop-down) or through the Settings app in your app drawer.
- Navigate down to “Apps”. This may be renamed to something like Applications or Application Manager in OEM skinned versions of Android 6 or 7.
- Once in there, click on an application.
- You’ll now see a list of stuff that gives you information about the app, including Storage, Permissions, Memory Use, and more. These are all clickable items. You’ll want to click on Storage.
- You should now clearly see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons for the application.
If wiping an app’s cache and data won’t work, do a factory reset.
