5 Best Android Recipes Apps in 2017 For Cooking

BigOven Best Recipe App

This is one of the most popular cooking apps available out there with downloads of up to 5 million estimated by the Google Play Store so far. The reason it’s so popular is because it comes with nearly 350,000 recipes to choose from, giving you the liberty to try every dish whenever you want. Sure, trying all of these dishes might not be possible in one lifetime, but one can surely try, right? The social aspect of the app gives users access to get in touch with popular food blogger and writers.

If you know exactly what you’re looking for, the app also comes with a handy search feature. This saves the time from manually scrolling through other recipes. This is better than a conventional cookbook thanks to the addition of these nifty features. BigOven has featured in multiple magazines and social media platforms, so it’s a well known recipe app. The app can be downloaded for free, although there are in-app purchases here to unlock some other features. The app is updated constantly to offer a fluid and hassle-free experience to the customers. It has a consistent 4.3 rating on the Play Store, telling us that it’s not a bad application to have on your Android smartphone or tablet. The app needs a device running Android 4.0.3 and up.

Southern Cooking Recipe App

This app helps you get in tune with Southern style cooking, which is one of the most popular cooking forms in the U.S. There are a variety of things you can make with this app, which is why it’s incredibly popular with the masses. The developers claim that they are adding more recipes over time so that the users aren’t stuck with the same tried and tested recipes for long. This app is strictly for Southern recipes, so you’ll be disappointed if you’re looking for something else. It’s a relative newcomer to the food world, which is why most people have probably not come across this app.

You will get to try some popular Southern recipes like Southern Fried Chicken, Buttermilk Biscuits, and Garden Salads, so be sure to have a closer look at this app. The developers are offering the app for free, and there are no in-app purchases on board. However, customers might have to contend with the occasional ads with this app. That doesn’t sound like too much of a sacrifice given that it’s a free application. Southern Cooking is compatible with devices running Android 2.2 and up. Customer reviews have been mixed for the app, mainly because it hasn’t been updated since 2014.

Cooking Hawaiian Style – Hawaiian Recipe App

The app is pretty simple in its functionality and the items are categorized under three sections – Recipes, Categories, and My Recipes. Under Recipes, you will find a big list of recipes meant to help you find what you’re looking for. Under My Recipes, you will find the list of recipes that you’ve saved up for future reference. Categories simply puts recipes under a certain category, making it easier for you to find similar food items belonging to the same category (sweet, for example). It’s a no frills app, really, and perhaps the best app you need to have to cook authentic Hawaiian food at your leisure.

You can also find for some of the most searched recipes on the app, helping you get a better understanding of what people are looking for on the app. You can find all the essential Hawaii based recipes on this app, and it comes with very good reviews from the users as well. The app is completely free and doesn’t have any in-app purchases, so you won’t have to spend a dime here. Given that it was launched quite some time ago, this particular application is compatible with devices running Android 2.3.3 and up. Be sure to give it a closer look from the Play Store.

Sweet’N’Spicy – Indian Recipe App

Indian food is very hard to come by around the world (unless you’re in India). So why rely on restaurants to cook you good Indian food, when you can make it on your own. Well, your search for one of the best Indian recipe apps will end here as you will get a comprehensive list of recipes here. Unfortunately, the user interface is nothing to write home about, but will still get the job done. Since you’re only supposed to look for recipes, we don’t think the customers will mind this much.

The app comes with ads and offers in-app purchases as well, so you’re not particularly getting the best user experience here. You can perhaps make an in-app purchase and get rid of the annoying ads. These are minor setbacks to what is otherwise a pretty decent app. Since it was launched a few years ago, the app is compatible with devices running Android 3.0 or above. Sweet’N’Spicy has consistently received ratings of over 4.3, which speaks volumes about its popularity with the users who have downloaded the app. The app has already seen close to 5 million downloads, which is pretty amazing.

Who doesn’t love Chinese food? Well, this app gives you exactly what you’re looking for in a food related app with hundreds of Chinese food recipes to tease your taste buds. It’s been around for a while, which explains why it has been downloaded over 500,000 times already on the Google Play Store. The layout is pretty easy to use here, which is vital for any application really. It was updated very recently, so the users can be assured that they’re getting the best Chinese recipes with every update. There are some special recipes added for the fall season, which is pretty neat. There are so many recipes here, and you might spend quite a long time going through all of them.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing as users have a myriad of choices to pick from. Ranging from the spicy main courses to desserts, this app has you covered if you’re craving a decent home cooked Chinese meal. The most recent update of the app added 100 new recipes, so you’ll have more to choose from over the course of the app’s existence. The app can run on any device with Android 2.2 or higher, covering a wide range of smartphones and tablets. This means you don’t necessarily need a high-end top of the line Android smartphone to run this app. This particular app comes with a ton of ads, but no in-app purchases, which is a small tradeoff to make given what it brings to the table. Be sure to try it out today.

  1. Sorry, I disagree with your choices – hands down, Cheftap wins my vote. It’s clipping feature is brilliant – nearly any recipe you can find on the Internet can be scanned into the app. If you want to scale the recipe up or down, it does it for you. And you can use it to make your grocery list. It is available on Android, iOS and has a nice web UI as well.

There is an annual subscription if you want more than 50 recipes (I have over 10k).

And finally, no, I do not work for Mindframe Design (authors of Cheftap), I’m just an enthusiastic user and subscriber.
