Note 5 Black Screen
Problem: My Samsung Galaxy note 5 has some black screen thing… everything else works on it but the screen does not. I did not drop it or anything, I put it next to me (on a table) and went to bed and when I woke up this morning by my alarm set on my phone, I could not see anything besides the buttons at the bottom and the notification light. The vibration works and phone calls work on it as well.. I also tried rebooting, force turn off and I can’t tell when I try to soft/hard reset via the boot menu because the screen is still blank. I only had my phone for 5 months as well. I got it online as a wifi phone basically brand new so I really need some help with this issue… BTW I’m not sure what its operating system is but I’d say it’s either version 5-6
Solution: You should try starting your phone in recovery mode. If your screen works in this mode then you will have to do a factory reset from here. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data. If however the screen still does not work even in recovery mode then this is already a hardware related problem possibly caused by a damaged display or a loose connection between the display and the motherboard. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Black Dots On Screen
Problem: I have a galaxy note 5 and it received physical damage and now the screen got a strip on the left side of the screen and black dots came on the screen now covering all of it. And the screen only works with the pen.
Solution: When the screen is physically damaged the best thing to do is to have the display assembly replaced. You should however try to check if the problem can be minimized by trying to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the issue still occurs even after the reset then bring your phone to a service center and have the display assembly replaced.
Note 5 Only Works With S Pen
Problem: Error unfortunately device keystring has stopped working after typing *#2663# to update the touch screen S pen works fine and everything else but touch screen with my hands nothing works
Solution: It’s possible that the problem is caused by a faulty digitizer. This phone has two digitizers, one responsible for the touch input and one responsible for the S Pen input. The digitizer for the touch input might be failing to work. To check if this is the case you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset if the issue still occurs then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked. If it is found out that the digitizer is defective then the whole display assembly will have to be replaced.
Note 5 Screen Timeout Stuck In 15 Seconds
Problem: My Galaxy Note 5 Display Screen Timeout keeps going back to 15 seconds, no matter what setting I choose. Have been to the Verizon store 3 times and they couldn’t fix it.
Solution: Have you made sure to correctly set the screen timeout of the phone?
- Tap the Settings icon
- Tap Display
- Tap Screen Timeout
- Tap your preferred duration.
If it still keeps on reverting to 15 seconds then try to check if an app installed in your phone is causing this problem by starting the device in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Another troubleshooting step that you can do is a factory reset. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.
Note 5 Screen Went Black
Problem: My note 5 screen went fuzzy like a tv screen then went black. Now can’t see nothing not even samsung label. But i feel the phone vibrate and lights come on. Now the phone has been dropped and fell in the toilet last year. Lol. But work up till today. I can’t turn the phone off and i don’t have a pull out battery. Can you help.?
Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to simulate a battery pull. Press and hold both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. If your phone does not restart then try charging if first for 20 minutes then turn on the phone. If you are still not getting any response then this is most likely a hardware related problem already. I suggest that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
Note 5 Not Working With S Pen
Problem: When I remove the S Pen from my phone the phone reacts but when I try to touch the screen with the pen it doesn’t register it. I am trying to get more information about how to get it fixed.
Solution: This is a similar issue to a problem we have addressed above where the screen does not work when it is touched but it works with an S Pen. This time though the issue is reversed as the phone does not work with an S Pen. The problem is still most likely caused by a damaged digitizer. To troubleshoot this you will need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. If after the reset the problem still occurs then you should bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
Note 5 Screen Randomly Not Responding
Problem: My screen randomly does not respond, doesnt turn on. There still is power as i get notifications and phone calls (call showed up but couldn’t answer).
Solution: Does this happen often? You need to check if an app you downloaded is causing this to happen by starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the issue occurs in Safe Mode then proceed with starting the phone in recovery mode then do the following
- Wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Factory reset. Make sure to have a backup copy of your data before doing.
Note 5 Soft Keys will Light Up After Update
Problem: I upgraded my note 5 from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1. Every minute the soft keys (back buttons will flash for half a second) even though I didn’t press them. Looks like something is running in the background that is using resources.
Solution: You should check first if a downloaded app is causing this problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it. If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then you will need to do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
