Note 4 No Data Service
Problem: I have an unlocked Verizon phone that I use straight talk phone service based w at&t. I just performed the software update and now the phone is not letting me use my data to access the internet or any apps that are internet based. The symbol at the top bar of the phone which tells you when you are receiving/sending data is there but shaded. Any ideas ?
Related Problem: I bought a Verizon Note 4 and switched it to Straight Talk service. It makes calls just fine, but I have NO data. I was on the phone with Straight Talk over an hour yesterday. We couldn’t get it to work. I really want to use this phone. I had a TMobile Note 4 that I used on Straight Talk and it worked perfectly. However, the TMobile service is not good in this area. Can you help me with this problem?
Solution: What you need to do first in this particular problem is to verify if you have an active mobile data subscription and if you are in an area that has a strong data signal. Your phone won’t be able to go online if these conditions are not met.
The software update that you received might have changed the APN settings of your phone. Make sure that your phone using using the correct settings.
- Name: straight talk
- APN: tfdata
- MMSC: https://mms-tf.net
- MMS proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
- MMS port: 80
- MCC: 310
- MNC: 410
If your phone is already using the correct APN settings and the issue still persists then the problem could be caused by old software data that has not been completely removed from the phone during the update process. What you need to do in this case is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete make sure that your phone has the correct APN settings then try to go online using your mobile data.
Note 4 Cannot Connect To Internet
Problem: I switched my note 4 from at&t to t mobile monthly services and now I can not connect to the internet (without wifi) or download pics in my text messages please help! I go on an 11 hr road trip in a few days!
Solution: Assuming that you have an active mobile data subscription the main problem why you can’t go online is because the phone might still be using the AT&T APN settings. You will need to change these settings to the T-Mobile APN which we have listed below.
To access the APN Settings
- From any Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to ‘NETWORK CONNECTIONS,’ then tap More networks.
- Tap Mobile networks.
- Tap Access Point Names.

Note 4 Connected To Wi-Fi But Can’t Get Online
Problem: phone says its connected to my wifi but cannot go online. i followed what you suggested to put it in safe mode and internet works fine. so i reset to factory settings and its fine. trouble starts again when i begin putting apps. does it mean i have no way to use these apps? if so it would defeat the purpose of having a smartphone. pls help. ps. also did the soft reset problem still occurs once i put apps
Solution: If the issue does not occur when the phone is placed in Safe Mode or right after a factory reset then there’s a possibility that one of the apps that you downloaded is causing this problem. You have to do a trial and error method to find out what app is causing this problem.
You also need to check if the issue occurs when you try to connect your phone to a specific Wi-Fi network or if it occurs when you connect your phone to other Wi-Fi networks as well. If it only occurs on a specific Wi-Fi network then the issue could be router related.
Note 4 Internet Not Working Properly
Problem: I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Mobile, after updating the software on 30-Mar-17. I am facing below issue. Internet is not working properly. same Sim card working fine in other phone. Battery drain very quickly. Not charging to 100% always stuck to 85% only.
Solution: I assume that by Internet you mean your mobile data since you mentioned that the SIM card works on a different phone. Since this problem occured right after a software update then there’s a possibility that the APN settings of your phone might have changed. Try to check if this is the case by comparing the APN settings of your phone to the settings that your carrier is using. Make the necessary changes in your device if needed.
Regarding the battery drain issue and the issue of the battery not fully charging then this could be a software related problem if it occurred right after the update. I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Instead, try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should try getting a new battery for your phone and see if this fixes the problem.
Note 4 Cannot Connect To Wi-Fi
Problem: Hi, Kindly help me with my phone – Samsung Note 4, it cannot connect to WiFi, when trying to connect it just shows “Save, Secured”. I tried to switch my phone off and remove the battery, unfortunately it doesn’t help. Thanking you in advance for your assistance.
Solution: There are reasons why you will be getting the “Saved, secured” message on the phone. Listed below are some of the possible culprits.
- The phone has an incorrect date and time
- Low signal from the router
- Phone glitch
- Roter glitch
- Security filter active on the router preventing your phone from connecting.
- Interference from other Wi-Fi networks.
To fix this problem the first thing that you need to do is to make sure that the automatic date and time setting of the phone i checked or active. This way the phone will automatically get the correct time and date from the network. Next, try rebooting your phone and the router. Once both devices have fully started forget the Wi-Fi network from your phone then connect to it again. Try moving closer to the router location to minimize interference from other devices. You should also check the MAC filtering feature of the router and disable it.
If the problem still persists then try connecting the phone to a different Wi-Fi network. If it connects then the problem could be caused by your router. You might need to update the firmware of your router or replace it with a new one.
