Note 4 Text Messaging App Freezes

Problem: I have a Samsung Note 4 and have loved it as much as my Note 3. Yesterday when I tried to do a text in the message app, the app would open and appear to be frozen with a blank screen. I have done a restart and a soft reset several times but the issue remains. I notice this morning that the message app updated at some point yesterday. Has the update totally hosed the option of even having the app? Help! I have a couple of addresses in my texts that I failed to save and direly need one. Thanks, Tina

Solution: What you should do first in this case is to clear the cache and data of the text messaging app. This will delete the cached data of the app which could be causing the problem. If the issue still persist then try starting the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it’s possible that the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode and since you mentioned that the issue started after an update to the messaging app was downloaded you should try uninstalling the update for your messaging app which can be done at the application manager.

Should the above steps fail to fix the problem then you have to consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will erase everything in your phone including your text messages so make sure to use Smart Switch to backup your device as it will also backup your text messages.

Note 4 Not Receiving Or Sending Long Text Messages

Problem: Hi, I have a Galaxy Note 4 phone and I notice it is unable to send paragraphed texts or receive long texts. I did a factory reset but the issue is still there. I have two devices and I was testing it out with the long texts but my Note 4 still did not receive any texts. I went to the settings options on splitting long texts but for some reason the message came out all mixed up. Please help. Thanks.

Solution: When your compose a text message that exceeds a certain amount of characters sometimes this gets converted to MMS which might be what’s happening in your case. The fact that you can’t send and receive long text messages makes this look like an MMS issue. If this is what’s happening right now you should make sure that your phone has the correct APN settings. These settings are carrier specific so you should contact your carrier regarding the correct APN settings for your phone. One other thing that you need to make sure of is that your phone has an active mobile data subscription since an MMS uses a mobile data connection.

Note 4 Verizon Can’t Send Text Messages On T-Mobile

Problem: So I have a verizon unlocked note 4 that I use with t mobile service. It started saying no network connection on the lockscreen but when I unlock it it shows full bars and 4g connection. So I can still surf the Internet, but I can’t send texts. It’s weird. Any idea what’s up?

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this case is to make sure that you have an active text messaging subscription. You need to contact your carrier regarding this matter. Once you have made sure of this the next step is to make sure that your phone is using the correct messaging center number.

  • Press Menu.
  • Select Messaging.
  • Select Options.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select Text message.
  • Verify the Message center in use.
  • Select Message centers.
  • The Message center number should be +12063130004.

If your phone is using the correct messaging number but it still can’t send a text message then perform the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app.
  • Try to check if you are able to send a text message in Safe Mode. If you are able to then the problem could be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Try using a different SIM.

Note 4 Not Sending Or Receiving Picture Messages

Problem: So I just got this phone… Samsung galaxy note 4 and it was never able to receive or sending picture messages. It didn’t just start though. It’s done it since the beginning, since I got it. I am new to samsung, so I’m not exactly sure I did something wrong or not… Help??

Solution: For this particular issue you should try to check if your phone is using the correct APN settings. These settings are carrier specific and are needed to send and receive picture messages. You also need to have an active mobile data subscription as this kind of message usually uses your mobile data.

Note 4 not Sending Picture Message

Problem: I sent 4 pictures in a text message to someone and only 2 of them went through. The other 2 just keep saying “sending”. Ive shut off the phone did the soft reset you mentioned and still have the same problem. Usually if it doesn’t go through I get a “failed” message, but  not this time. This also drains my battery. Can you help? Thanks

Solution: Try deleting the message then compose a new one with the two pictures not sent attached. If it sends then your network might have a file size limit in sending pictures.

If the issue still occurs then try to perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after performing a step then move to the next one should the issue persist.

  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app.
  • Try to send a picture message in Safe Mode. If it sends then the problem could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Text Messages Received Not Showing

Problem: I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and I’ve come into this problem it which my messages I receive will show on the top notif bar, however anytime I try to select reply it wont only let me rid of the notification, but wont let me see the conversation or reply.  Any time I try to click on the app itself to see the message the conversation/contact doesn’t even show it’s there. this is extremely frustrating!  Should I force stop the messages app?

Solution: This could probably be caused by a glitch in the phone data. Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
