Note 4 Text Message Time And Date Do Not Match

Problem: When texting and receiving messages the times and dates do not match up!! How can this be fixed?

Solution: If your text message appears to have a different date and time from the current date and time then the first thing you should do is to make sure that the phone acquires the data and time setting automatically from the network. To do this follow the steps listed below.

  • Tap Settings
  • tap Date and time.
  • Make sure that there is a check mark in Automatic date and time
  • Make sure that there is a check mark in Automatic time zone

Once you have made the above settings and the issue still persists then perform the following steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after performing a step then move to the next one if it does.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app.
  • Try starting the phone in Safe Mode. If the issue does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 SMS Sent As Chat Not Text

Problem: I have a note 4. My dad used to have an android and recently switched to an iphone. When I try to text him, it says chat instead of text, has been for a while. However since he switched to apple, he isn’t getting my messages. I have no issues with other texts, android or apple. I keep my device updated as far as software and apps. I have tried deleting his thread and contact with no luck. Any advice on what else might work?

Solution: Since your message is indicated as being sent as a chat then this could be sent out using a data connection. Are you using a third party messaging app when sending out a text message? If you are then try using the stock messaging app. If you are already using the stock messaging app and this issue still occurs then you should do the following troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Have your dad check if your number is blocked on his phone.
  • Clear the cache and data of your text messaging app.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a third party app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Not Receiving Some Text Messages

The first person i have noticed that sent me SMS i didn’t received is my wife. Today my colleague asked me did i received his SMS (I didn’t). So, it is not only from my wife. The most of SMSs are delivered but minority is not delivered. I use native Android SMS app.

Solution: If you are not receiving some of the text messages sent to you then you should perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below. Check if the issue still occurs after performing a step then move to the next step if the problem remains.

  • Restart your phone. This will reset your connection to the network and will usually resolve this kind of issue.
  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app.
  • Try to check if you have any numbers blocked in your phone.
  • Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. If it doesn’t then this could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Speaker Not Activated When Earphones Are Removed

Problem: This Note 4 is different than my Note 2 in that when you remove the earphones, the speaker is not activated.  On my Note 2, the speaker was more like a speaker phone where you would be sharing conversations with people across the room at louder settings.  Without earphones, my Note 2 could be heard and volume managed with the controls.  All other system sounds on the Note 4 were audible with or without the earphones plugged in.  Is this normal?

Solution: When you remove the earphones of your phone and if you are on a call the sound will be routed to the internal speaker of the phone or the earpiece. To make the sound play through the external speaker or speakerphone you will have to activate this manually.

Things are different if you are listening to music on your phone. Once the earphones are removed the sound will be routed to the external speaker.
