Samsung Galaxy S5 Cannot Send Or Receive MMS Messages Issue & Other Related Problems

Unlike a regular text message an MMS message is different as it can include pictures, audios, or videos. It is also sent or received usually using a mobile data connection. S5 Cannot Send Or Receive MMS Messages

Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5.  It was originally a Verizon phone, but was unlocked, and I bought it on Ebay and had it activated on AT&T.  The phone works great in every respect, other than one problem:  I cannot send, or receive, MMS messages.  Regular texts go through just fine.  I believe on the day I got the phone, I may have gotten one picture message to go through, but since then, nothing.  The phone was factory reset at the store on the day I got it activated, so I haven’t done it again.  I have tried soft reset (removing battery), replaced the battery, cleared data on the stock messaging app, cleared the cache, tried multiple restarts, tried away from home (I have a Microcell at home), tried at home, tried on data, tried on Wifi, tried on Airplane mode.  Nothing works.  The phone “tries” for about 20 minutes to send the message, then gives me a “Message Not Sent” error.  This applies to picture messages and group messages without pictures, basically any MMS.  AT&T says it is because it is an unlocked phone.  I have spent hours on the phone with both AT&T and Samsung, and both say it’s the other’s problem.  I have been through every scenario on this website as well, but none of them exactly match my problem, and none of the “fixes” have helped.  I have the most updated software on the phone.  Mobile data is turned out.  APN settings have been quadruple checked and are definitely correct.  I have tried Hangouts and Textra and both also do not work.  

Solution: Sometimes phone’s that are unlocked and used on other networks can have issues since the software version of the phone is designed to work on a particular carrier, in this case Verizon. What I suggest that you do now is to start the phone fresh. Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet.

Here’s what you need to do.

  • Make sure that your phone is using the correct AT&T APN settings.
  • Make sure that you have an active mobile data subscription.
  • Make sure that your phone has a good mobile data signal.

Try going online using your mobile data subscription. Open a website using the phone browser. If you can access a website then you will be able to send and receive an MMS. Try to check if this is the case by sending yourself an MMS then check if you are able to receive it.

S5 Randomly Stops Sending Text Messages

Problem: Phone randomly stops sending text msgs. Sometime it works fine then when it feels like it, it just won’t send them to anyone. I’ve tried resetting phone completely & issue still comes back. Seem to receive text just fine. Please help as I’m about to throw this piece of crap out the window.

Related Problem: I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. My regular text messages do not consistently come through, even with the same sender during the same exchange. Recently, some of them are not going out either, with no notification (looks like they sent). Tried the soft reset, but still occurring.

Solution: The first thing that you need to check when a phone fails to send a text message is if the phone is getting a good signal. Does the issues occur when you are in a particular area or does it occur even when you are in different locations? If it is only in one area then there might be a problem with the signal in that area.

Once you have eliminated the network signal as a possible cause to the problem the next step is to check the phone by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then observe if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then this could already be a hardware related issue. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.

S5 Stopped Sending Text Messages To Premium Numbers

Problem: My Samsung s5 (after last OS update) will not allow me to reply to TEXT service/5 digit code messages. My doctors, pharmacy, insurance company etc. all use 5 digit code app/services to send billing & other request, notifications etc. When I reply as directed to the messages, I get a message that says “Unfortunately android process has stopped.” The text app closes and it wIll display the spinning “sending” symbol & message indefinitely. How do I fix this?

Solution: To fix this issue you should first clear the cache and data of the text messaging app. Once this is done go to Settings -More – Application Manager – All tab – Messaging. Look for Permissions then make sure that the setting for “Send Premium SMS” is set to “Always Allow” or “Ask”.

S5 Takes Too Long to Send Picture Messages

Problem: So I just bought the phone yesterday and have had it maybe 24 hours. Already I am noticing it is taking  very long time to send picture messages and phone is running much slower than I expected. I have downloaded a few apps but I have kept it fairly limited to a few essentials. How can I get my phone running properly and sending pictures normally?

Solution: Try checking the mobile data mode that you phone is on. The faster the data mode (LTE or 4G) the quicker you will be able to send an MMS message. If you are getting an LTE or 4G signal and it still sends out slow then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

  1. Help. S5 voice to text doubles words. If I say type this, it does this, type this type this. Non voice texting works ok.
