#Samsung is best known for its software support even on their older devices. The #Galaxy #S5 for example which was released in 2014 has had several updates. Starting with KitKat proceeding to Lollipop and now Marshmallow. It’s usually a good idea to get the new software version of your phone once the update becomes available as this will improve the overall performance of the device. There are however instances when certain software related issues can occur because of this update which we will be addressing today. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Galaxy S5 account action required issue & other related problems.
If you own a Samsung S5 or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. S5 Account Action Required
Problem: Notification that won’t go away saying “Account Action Required”, i am locked out of my Gmail account. At random yesterday I suddenly couldn’t play any videos on the YouTube app, says I need to login to my Gmail account which I honestly never even use (I use yahoo mail). Completely forgot my password and also forgot the alternative email I used or when I created the account in general. So I cannot recover the account. This has never happened before. I also do not believe I have been hacked but I think phone could potentially have a virus. Need help resetting this thing but I don’t want to delete my pics and files if I do a factory reset. Anyone else complaining of this issue currently?? Thanks.
Solution: You will usually get the “Account action required” message if the password to your Google account has been changed. However, if this issue just happened recently then it could be caused with by an issue with Google where there have been several account sign-outs reported. Google has already responded to this issue by saying that “During routine maintenance, a number of users were signed-out from their Google accounts. This may have resulted in you being signed out of your account or seeing a notification about “A change in your Google account” or “Account Action Required”. We hear your concerns that this appeared to potentially be phishing or another type of security issue. We can assure you that the security of your account was never in danger as a result of this issue.”
What you need to do to access your account again is simply to log into it. If you have forgotten the password then you will need to gain access to your account by following these steps. Access your Google account using a browser from a computer. Click on forget password. You will be asked a series of questions which will establish your ownership of the account.
Some of the verification methods that Google employs are as follows.
- An app such as Google Authenticator if you have setup the 2 step authentication.
- An SMS text message received from Google.
- Printed backup codes.
- A secondary email address.
- A security question.
S5 Software Installation Update Stops
Problem: Hi, I am trying to update software. I can download the software no problem. It downloads fully but every time I go to install it, it reaches to 26% and then it it stops and and error icon comes up and then it reboots and error message failed to update software etc appears. I took it to a Samsung Kiosk but the guy said that maybe the download is for another phone (maybe a s6 or s7) but that shouldn’t be possible should it? The download size is about 184.99mb
Solution: It’s unlikely that the downloaded update is for another phone as only the intended software for your device will be downloaded automatically. What’s happening in here is that there might be some issue during the installation of the update possibly due to limited internal disk space or some glitch in the phone software. The best way to deal with this issue is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete download the update again. It should be able to install successfully this time.
S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Software Update
Problem: When I was updating my S5 mini to marshmallow, after downloading & installing the update, when the phone restarts to boot up.. It just stucked on the Samsung logo, tried clearing the cache partition and factory reset also. But still same problem..
Solution: Try removing the battery and microSD card ( if you have one installed in your phone) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then try to turn on the phone. If the issue still persists then you should consider flashing your phone with its updated firmware file. Download the firmware file of your phone from the Sammobile website. You will also find instructions on how to flash your phone in this website.
S5 Screen Does Not Turn On
Problem: My daughters galaxy S5 just missed the Samsung warranty by 3 months and I didn’t buy insurance from our carrier. Her screen doesn’t come on and the bottom buttons light up but she doesn’t know when she gets a text and can’t hang up if she gets a phone call. It worked for a few days the T-Mobile tech told her to take out her SD card being it was from her old galaxy blaze..then it went down…Samsung walked her through a factory reset and that didn’t work and somehow she is locked out of her phone something about gmail account changed it a few times to get in..Is there somewhere she can get it fixed? Three people said it’s a software issue and we went back to T-Mobile for her new phone and salesman said it sounds like physical damage..she hasn’t dropped it, gotten it wet.
Solution: Was the factory reset successfully performed on the phone? If it was and the issue still persists then there’s a very slim chance that this is a software related problem. You will need to have this phone examined at a service center as this could already be a hardware problem possibly due to a faulty display assembly.
S5 Weak 4G Reception
Problem: Hi I put this issue under OS as it has to do with my 4g. Okay so I purchased a G-900V and since I got it the 4g signal hasn’t been working where I live. I’ve had to resort to purchasing another Samsung gs5 for the 4g to work. Not sure if the emmc has anything to do with this issue, but the non-working 4g phone has a 15xxxxxxx emmc, but the newer one has an 11xxxxx emmc. I sent the old 15 emc to Samsung to get the problem resolved, they sent the phone back to me saying that the camera is not an official Samsung camera and I read up on that and found out that Samsung gs5 has had some issues with their cameras. I’m assuming the individual whom I got the phone from had issues and had the camera replaced. I’m not sure if the camera replacement made any difference with the 4g antenna, because I’ve had 2 different gs5’s 4g working fine at my house. However, when I do get into a stronger 4g area, the mobile network works like a champ. Any thoughts on the matter? Maybe it has something to do with the Toshiba chips vs the Samsung ones bc I never checked the emmc on the other working phone. Thanks in Advance
Solution: If your phone gets a good 4G signal in an area with strong 4G then the problem could be caused by an issue with the phone antenna. It might not be properly seated in its place. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Stuck In Samsung Logo After Unrooting
Problem: please i recently tried to unroot my galaxy s5(SM-G900P) not a carrier phone which was rooted with a software without my permission. i tried unrooting with supersu from playstore but it hanged when i restarted on the samsung logo before the main screen. i tried factory and cache wipe to no avail so i flashed the same lollipop 5.0 on the s5 but i found out that i lost the 4g on the phone, no mobile hotspots, my sim contacts were not displaying and my mobile data shortcut on the notification panel also gone. All these features were active and working on the main lollipop 5.0 which already came with the handset before the problem and subsequent flashing. what can i do to get all these back? am from ghana and use mtn network
Solution: You should try flashing the updated stock firmware version of your phone. Download this firmware from the Sammobile website. Instructions on how to flash your phone can also be found at this website.
If the issue still persists even after flashing your phone then this could be caused by a faulty internal component. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.
