The camera is one of the selling points of the #Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (#S6EdgePlus) and while it’s a premium phone, it’s not exempted from errors many Android users experience. One of those issues is the error “Unfortunately, Camera has stopped,” which, based on complaints we received from our readers, is bugging a lot of owners shortly after a minor update was rolled out.
The update could have been just a security patch, a performance booster or a mandatory update in preparation of the upcoming Android 7 Nougat update, which is believed to be rolled out in few weeks time.

This troubleshooting guide is drafted for average users so even if you don’t have advanced knowledge in Android and mobile hardware, you will still be able to perform troubleshooting procedures suggested below.

Troubleshooting Galaxy S6 Edge Plus with error “Unfortunately, Camera has stopped”
The camera is one of the most complicated components in your phone. The hardware has to work in-sync with the app and firmware so you can capture perfect stills or record videos according to your preferences. If this error, however, occurs, this is what you need to do…
Step 1: Reboot your phone a couple of times to rule out the possibility that it’s just a temporary glitch
Reboot your device a couple of times if it’s the first time that the error occurred. It might be just a minor glitch in the system or the hardware. Glitches happen all the time and they occur more often than you think and this issue might be just one of the symptoms.
Step 2: Clear the cache and data of the Camera app to reset it and delete possible corrupt files
If the reboots didn’t help, then it’s time to go after the app that’s specifically mentioned in the error–Camera. We have to reset it and delete all the caches it’s using to bring it back to its optimal configuration. Here’s how you do it…
- From any Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to ‘APPLICATIONS,’ then tap Application manager.
- Swipe right to the ALL screen.
- Scroll to and tap Camera.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Tap Clear data, then OK.
Don’t worry about the caches as they will be replaced with new ones the moment you use the apps again or after the phone rebooted. If the problem persists after this, however, move on to the next step.
Step 3: Reboot your device in Safe Mode to run it in diagnostic state and isolate the problem
We need to know if the error is caused by one of the third-party apps you installed on your device by running the phone in safe mode. By doing so, you’re actually running the device in its diagnostic state wherein all third-party apps and services are temporarily disabled. So, if the problem is caused by one of those apps, you should be able to use the camera when in safe mode. Here’s how you boot your phone in Safe Mode:
- Press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Once you see the Samsung logo, release the Power key immediately but continue pressing the Volume Down key.
- Your phone should continue booting up and you will be prompted to unlock your phone as usual.
- You will know if the phone successfully booted in safe mode if the text “Safe mode” is displayed at the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 4: Since the problem started after an update, try deleting the system cache as it might have been corrupted
System caches get corrupted most of the time especially during and after firmware updates. It’s always a possibility and we have to rule it out because between this and the reset, this one doesn’t require you to backup your files and data as none of them will be deleted and it’s very effective when it comes to minor firmware issues. Here’s how you do it…
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
It’s effective but there’s no guarantee, so after wiping the cache partition and the camera still crashes, you have no other option but to reset your device.
Step 5: Try to reset your device as there might be some corrupt data due to the recent update
The problem occurred only after the update, so I assume it was working fine prior to having the firmware bumped up. It means that we’re actually just dealing with a firmware issue rather than a hardware. Since you already did the basic and the problem still occurs, it’s time you reset your device. Your data and files will be deleted so you need to back them up before doing the steps below. Don’t worry, the new firmware won’t disappear, it’s just that the device will be brought back to the default configurations.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power keys together.
- When the device powers on and displays ‘Power on logo’, release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Vol Down button again until the option ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted and then press the Power key to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight ‘Reboot system now’ and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
