S5 Screen Randomly Flickering
Problem: To whom it may concern, I bought a Samsung galaxy s5 earlier last year when I upgraded a plan I had at the time. For the first month or so everything worked perfectly and had zero issues. I had bought an Otterbox with the phone and it hadn’t come into any harm at all; but then randomly it would start flickering and the screen would start becoming distorted to the point where I couldn’t use it. I would turn the screen off and when I would turn the screen back on it would flicker my background picture, then go black. The keys would still light up and vibrations could be felt. I would turn it off and on and eventually it would work for about 5-10 minutes until it did the same thing all over again. I used another phone with my SIM card for about 7 months and tried switching back to my galaxy s5 and for the first day everything worked perfectly – no sign of issue. But the next day it was as bad as ever and I’m unable to turn my phone on at all. I looked at some sites for how to fix this but when my phone does turn on, the fixes never seem to work. It’s a very temperamental phone these days so any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you so much, Nathan Cressman p.s. I am unsure as to which version I’m currently using. I was able to update everything on the first day so I’m assuming its the newest one.
Solution: It looks like the problem could be caused by an issue with the display assembly. You should however check for other possible causes by trying to check if a glitch in the phone software is causing the problem. Try starting the phone in recovery mode. This is an environment separate from the operating system of the device. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data. If however the issue still occurs even in recovery mode then the problem could be caused by a defective display assembly. I suggest that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Screen Will Not Turn On
Problem: My screen will not turn on. I can charge it and get feedback from the soft buttons, but the screen is constantly. My screen is shattered, but it worked fine like that for months. I’ve heard it may be something to do with the back light.
Solution: If your screen is shattered then your only option right now is to have the display assembly replaced. I recommend that you have this done at a service center.
S5 Screen Flashes White When Phone Is Locked
Problem: This issue occurs when my phone is locked. Essentially, I will hit the home button, my screen will flash white, and the buttons to the left and right of the home button will light up. My screen is blank, however. If I wait a second, then do the process over, everything works as it should. I have done a soft reset and a factory reset, but the issue is unresolved.
Solution: If the issue occurs right after a factory reset ( before you install any apps in your phone) then the issue could be hardware related already possibly caused by the display assembly itself. If your phone still running on its stock software? If it’s running on a custom software then I recommend that you try flashing back the stock software.
If your phone is already running on its stock software and this issue still occurs then I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Screen Flickering After Factory Reset
Problem: I did a factory reset on my Galaxy S5… Because I wanted to sell it… I just got the new S7 Edge. And now the screen is flickering… I tried a soft reset but it is still flickering… Any thoughts or ideas… Thank you I don’t know my version I just pick one
Solution: Try doing another round of factory reset. After the reset don’t install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then this might already be a hardware related problem possibly caused by a faulty display assembly. I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
S5 Cannot Control The Phone
Problem: Once a day I cannot control the phone since the marshmallow update on my Samsung S5. Reboot is still possible and fixes the problem for a while. Cleaning the cache partition does not help.
Solution: Since this problem occured right after a software update you will need to do a factory reset. This reset will remove any old software data that might have been left behind during the update process and is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue.
