One of the most common uses of a smartphone today is to send out a text message to friends and family members. The #Samsung #Galaxy #S5 for example is a great device to use for text messaging since it has a large 5.1 inch display that makes typing very convenient. While sending out a text message is easy to do there are instances when certain issues can occur. This is what we will tackle today as we address the Galaxy S5 text message not permanently deleting issue & other related problems.
If you own a Samsung Galaxy S5 or any other Android device for that matter then feel free to contact us using this form. S5 Text Message Not Permanently Deleting
Problem: My text messages will not permanently delete. I have deleted them several times and they keep coming back after I charge my phone. I took it to the local Verizon store, and we turned off synchronizing with the cloud feature and the integrated messaging feature. It worked for a few days, then all the sudden this morning after charging for 5 hrs, 24 text messages were back that I had deleted a few days before. I tried to trouble shoot it online, I couldn’t find anything with this as an issue. I tried to soft boot, but I couldn’t figure out how to find the battery or where the release button was on the back.
Solution: The reason why text messages won’t permanently delete is because they are backed up in the cloud. When you delete the messages this only erases the message in your phone and not the cloud. This is usually the case if you are using the Verizon Messages app. To fix this issue try deleting the messages again then turn off the sync feature of the messaging app.
S5 Sends Text Messages As Asian Symbols
Problem: My phone now sends SMS texts as symbols (looks like Asian letters). I talked to ATT, they told me it is a known issue, and there is nothing anyone can do. They told me it isn’t my device, but it is just a glitch that happens sometimes. I am wondering if that is true? Do many other people have this problem? If I got a new device, like a S6, would this be a non-issue?
Related Problem: I’m receiving certain texts from someone that comes across as chinese or korean. I haven’t had this issue before and it started a few days ago. Sometimes the message comes through and sometimes it the same message in what looks like a different language. I tried to google translate it but i couldn’t find anything. I text this person often and on her phone it goes through as a normal message that she typed. Not sure how to fix it and can’t find anything like it online. I have the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. Thank You!!
Solution: As far as we know this issue is happening on the AT&T network and affects not just Android devices but iPhones as well. This appears to be an encoding issue which occurs whenever an emoticon or emoji is present in the text message. As of now the only temporary solution is to avoid using emojis or emoticons first until AT&T can fix this issue.
S5 Not Receiving Text Messages When On A Call
Problem: I do not receive messages (SMS) when somebody calls me and I miss it, have my phone off or if I am on another call. I will only receive a notification if somebody leaves a voice message on my answering machine. I would love some help!
Solution: What you should do first in this case is to check if a third party app installed in your phone is causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem occurs in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet but instead try to check if the issue still occurs .should the problem persist do the following steps listed below.
- Go to different locations and check if the issue still occurs. This allows you to check if the problem is caused by the network in your area.
- If possible try using a different SIM card.
If the above steps don’t fix the problem then you should have your phone checked at a service center as this could already by a hardware related problem.
S5 Not Receiving Some Text Messages
Problem: I purchased a factory unlocked phone that is compatible with AT&T or TMobile. I have AT&T, the phone loads as T Mobile. It works fine most of the time. Calls out with no problem, sends texts, but I have discovered I am missing texts coming in. There have been multiple people who responded to a text I sent and I never received the response. It’s hit/miss. Receive one, but not the next. They have sent me a screenshot showing they replied. I have to wonder how many texts I am missing. Any suggestions to fix this problem?

Start your phone in Safe Mode then check if you are still experiencing the same issue in this mode. If not then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the issue still occurs eve in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Problem: I have a galaxy S5 for the past 2 weeks i am not receiving some of my calls or my texts. I have to restart my phone then for the first 15 or so min o will receive texts or calls but then it happens again. People who call say it just rings and rings it doesn’t even go to voicemail. I can call out and send texts but sometimes i get calls and texts, but most of the time i don’t.
Solution: It’s possible that some form of software glitch is causing this issue. Try to doing a factory reset to fix this problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.
