Note 5 Not Turning On After Overnight Charging

Problem: Battery down to 2%.  Decided to switch to slow charging mode instead of fast charge and left it overnight to charge. Next day phone is unable to start and doesn’t even power up.  Phone was working fine before.  Tried resetting phone (pressing vol down and power button or vol up, power and home button) but no luck. Tried to plug USB to computer to charge but also no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards

Solution: There’s a possibility that the phone didn’t charge overnight. To check if this is the case you need to charge your device again for at least 20 minutes. Before charging your phone though you should do the following steps listed below.

  • Make sure that the charging port of your phone is free of any dirt or debris since this may interfere with the charging process. Clean this port using a can of compressed air or by blowing into it using a straw.
  • Charge your phone using a different charging cord and charger.

If the issue still remains then try to start doing a simulated battery pull by simultaneously pressing and holding down the power button and volume down button for at least 12 seconds. The phone should restart. If it doesn’t then try starting the phone in Safe Mode.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center.

Note 5 Loses Charge Quickly

Problem: Hey, I have a Galaxy Note 5 (about 7-8 months old), the battery wasn’t lasting as long as it used to so I ordered a replacement online (they sent me a “Made in China” battery, not OEM).  I installed the battery, it had a partial charge so I put it on the wireless fast charge (Samsung).  It charged to 100% then I took it off for a few and then put it back on the charger (wireless) again (out of habit).  It immediately dropped drastically in charge reading but for a day or two, when it read at severely low charge (like 1%), it would still last for a significant amount of time so I thought maybe the issue was related to how the software measures the battery… but the phone wouldn’t ever charge fully, at first it would charge into the 60% range but it quickly degraded until eventually it didn’t charge at all (and if it did, the measured charge reading would drop inexplicably fast).  I contacted my service provider, she recommended trying to buy an OEM battery on Amazon, I couldn’t find an OEM battery but I did buy the best battery I came across.  I received the new battery yesterday afternoon and installed it.  It had a partial charge so I decided to use it until it ran out (thinking that maybe charging it first thing may have contributed to the demise of it’s predecessor), then I plugged it into the fast charger last night before I went to bed, when I got up this morning it had a 42% charge and that degraded quickly.  Now it is acting like the previous battery, not even taking a charge (although the battery icon indicates that it is in charging mode).  I have tried multiple different chargers and restarts etc. without success and I am hours away from anybody who services these phones professionally…  At present it won’t even power on so I’m unable to check which Android version it is running.  Any suggestions?  Thanks for this great service!

Solution: Right now I suggest that the first thing you should do is to make sure your phone turns on. You can do this by charging the device first. Once the phone turns on backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset has completed do not install anything in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then you should have this checked at a service center.

Note 5 Will Not Turn On

Problem: Hi Droid Guy, I have some questions about my Samsung Galaxy Note 5. FIrst of all, my phone will not turn on. It goes to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Screen Powered by Android, and will not go to the screen that says SAMSUNG. It keeps restarting and freezing. Also, the blue notification light is lit up and is not flashing, just lit up. I don’t know what this means, and I don’t know what to do with it. I’ve also tried uninstalling apps that I don’t use and that may cause viruses, but no luck. Please help.

Solution: The blue notification light on your phone blinks when the device turns on or off. It also blinks when there is an unread notification or when doing a voice recording. Since this light just stays lit then it might be due to the phone freezing.

For the main issue of our device not turning on what you can do is to check if the phone will start in recovery mode. If you are able to access this mode then I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step.

Note 5 Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I have had this phone less than 6 months and have found that the battery life never lasts past 6pm that night. Even when I am not using the phone and I’m closed out of everything, the battery continues to drain. This problem didn’t occur recently, it has been like this since the first day I got the phone. Is it possible I have a faulty battery? Just sitting here writing this my battery has gone down 4%.

Related Problem: the battery does not last long even after i fully charge it. i use it until it goes dead flat, recharge it while it is still turned off, but it only just lasts a day

Solution: Since it is not easy to replace the battery of this phone the first thing that you should do is to check if the phone software is causing this problem. To do this you need to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check first if the battery still drains quickly. If it does then have the battery replaced at a service center.

Note 5 Not Turning On Not Charging

Problem: i cannot turn the device on, it went completely dead, i plugged it in to charge and it shows the little lightning bolt but it is not charging, i also tried charging it wirelessly and it does the same thing, this phone is under a year old but i’ve had no problems with it till just now ?  help!!!

Solution: Since both charging method fails ( wired and wireless) there’s a possibility that the battery is causing this issue. I recommend that you have the battery checked at a service center. It’s possible that you will need to have this battery replaced.
