Note 4 Freezes When Texting

Problem: Ever since Marshmallow my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Is running very slow. Special when it comes to typing and the biggest issue is texting. It completely bogs down when texting it’s even freezed on me and crashed a couple of times. I have did 3 factory data resets and same problem every time. I am using SwiftKey but I have always used it and never had a problem. Phone run like a top until Marshmallow.

Solution: If the issue is most noticeable when texting then you might want to try uninstalling SwiftKey then check if the problem still occurs.

Alternatively, you can start your phone in Safe Mode then  check if the issue occurs in this mode. While your phone is running in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is then uninstall it.

If the issue occurs even in Safe Mode and even if you have uninstalled SwiftKey then you should consider flashing the previous stock firmware version back to your phone as the update might be causing problems with your device. Instructions on how to flash your phone can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Text Messages Not Showing Up In Order

Problem: Messages I send and receive don’t show up how they normally have. Every Time a new message comes, I have to scroll up to see it. They all stack on each other and the new ones are always right at the top. The messages I send stack on the right side and I have to constantly scroll all the way to the top to read my new messages. All my texts are confusing to read. Please help.

Solution: The best way to deal with this issue is to clear the cache and data of the stock messaging app from the Application Manager. This will delete the temporary data of the app and reset it to its stock settings.

Note 4 Takes Long Time To Load Text Message

Problem: I had to buy a refurbished phone because my last note 4 was having some issues , now this phone when I send messages it takes a long time to load the message on the screen and can’t type anything in the text box to send after until the first message has been sent which takes forever . Messages keep getting lost in cyberspace and when i am waiting on the message to send so I can send another if I hit my home button the keyboard won’t go down either . I just got this phone in April , is it already time for me to give it up ? What do I do to get this fixed?

Solution: There are several troubleshooting steps that you can do to fix this issue. Listed below are the steps that you need to perform. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs after performing a particular step.

  • Clear the cache and data of the messaging app. Sometimes the app will accumulate a lot of temporary data which could slow it down. Performing this step helps speed things up.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue still occurs. When the phone runs in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. This is a great way to check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem. If the issue doesn’t occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This deletes the temporary system data of the phone which could be causing this problem.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Check if there are any new software updates available for your phone and update it.

If the problem still occurs even after performing the steps listed above then you should consider flashing the phone with its updated stock firmware file. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Texting Lags After Marshmallow Update

Problem: since my marshmallow update my phone has been running much slower, but in particular, texting is HUGELY lagging. And not just lagging – if I start typing my text, nothing will be showing up during the lag, then as the phone tries to catch up and display the text, it duplicates most of what I typed while it was hung. it may repeat some of the text 3 or 4 times, like  a stutter.  Safe mode is hard to test this in, since wifi is turned off, and thus texting can’t be sent.  Have hard booted, battery removal… have not reverted to factory defaults yet.

Related Problem: Since I upgraded to Marshmellow (2 updates since late June) my text messaging responds very slow.  I can swype or type a message and it sometimes takes 10 to 20 seconds to respond or display what I typed.  The same occurs when I tell it to send the text.  It occurs about 90% of the time.  Thanks for your assistance.

Related Problem: Every since the last update, when trying to text there is a delay and I cannot text if a text is coming in at the same time. It makes it very hard to have a conversation and frustrating when I am trying to text someone and someone else is sending me something. I have taken the battery out and cleared the cache’. This form asked me which version of my phone but really I am not sure….I got it two years ago if that helps …if not please tell me how to find out ..

Solution: I’d recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will delete any old software data that has not been removed during the update process and is causing this lag issue.

Note 4 Not Sending Text Message But Can Receive

Problem: Can not send text messages but I am able to receive them. I had a Note 4 it no longer was able to send text messages. I didn’t understand why and had tried to hard reset it several times . Then my phone stolen I replaced it with another note 4 when I first started using the phone it was able to send text messages after the phone was updated it would no longer send messages but I can receive them. So now i realize it is a priciest with marshmallow update or something that affects note 4’s. Can you please help me.

Solution: If your phone is unable to send but can receive text messages then you should try to check first if the message center number that is set in your device matches the one your carrier is using.

  • From the standby screen, tap Menu.
  • Tap Messaging.
  • Scroll to and tap Messaging Settings.
  • Tap Text Message.
  • Tap Text Message Center.
  • Tap SMS Settings.
  • Tap the “Center Address” field.
  • Enter the appropriate Message Center Number if it is not correct, then tap OK.

Another possible reason why this issue is happening is because of a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case try sending a text message while your phone is running in Safe Mode. If you can send a message while in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should try to check with your carrier why you are not able to send text messages. This might be an account related issue or the SIM card you are using might be causing this problem.

Note 4 Not Receiving Text Message From iPhones

Problem: I am not receiving texts messages on my Note 4 from friends who have iphones. I switched to iphone temporarily last week and then right back to my note. I read other threads and went in and turned off imessages and had them delete the thread and try messaging me again but that didn’t work. They receive messages from me. Any other suggestions?

Solution: It’s very likely that when you switched to an iPhone you activated the iMessage service. You should opt out of this service to receive text messages from other iPhone owners now that you are back to using an Android device.

If you still have access to your iPhone

  • Reinsert the SIM card  back into your iPhone.
  • Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data network (such as 3G or LTE).
  • Tap Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
  • Tap Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.

If you don’t have access to your iPhone anymore

  1. My note 4 has been messing up in messager for a several weeks now. I’ll be texting and it pops up messager has no messages. Yes it does I’m texting now. You can’t get into messages to send one until you turn the phone off and back on. Then they are there. But the other catch is when it comes back on it shows the battery is dying. I started looking at the battery before I use messager it would be on 73 percent and when it messes up you turn it off and back on no battery charge. But you can take the battery out put it back in and it shows charge. I finally broke down today and made sure I backed up my stuff and did a factory reset. Everything came back except my contacts. So I sit and put in all of my contacts 1 x 1. My daughter texted and wanted to see a photo I took this morning I go to photos and they are gone. They was there because I checked and was very happy they were. But now their gone. And to beat it all mt messages is still doing the same thing!! I have not had my phone a year yet.
