Note 4 Unable To Update to Marshmallow

Problem: I am unable to update to Marshmallow. Click on “Update Now” over a stable WIFI and downloaded 1.4 GB of files. Click on installation and it prompt me an error that installation failed and to use Kies Air to update. I bring my phone to samsung service center for them to assist in the upgrade. They tried and mention that they can’t detect my phone. They took my phone and did investigation. After 3 days, they told me that my motherboard is faulty. Now they have factory reset my phone and I refused to make payment to change new motherboard as I can get a new phone with the price they asking. They mention since my motherboard is faulty, forcing the upgrade to Marshmallow can damage the phone. What can I do to make the upgrade or confirm that it’s a motherboard faulty. I have been using the phone for past 3 days after picking up from service center and don’t see any issues with it. It’s bought a year ago.

Solution: If your phone works without any issues on its current software version then it will most likely work without any issues when you upgrade it to Marshmallow. Have you tried to inquire which part of the motherboard is defective and what feature/ function is affected?

You can try doing the update again and see if it pushes through. You can do this using the OTA method or by using Kies. In case both methods don’t work one last step you should consider is to manually flash the update to your device. You will need a the latest version of Odin to do this as well as the latest stock firmware file of your phone. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Stuck In Updating Software Screen

Problem: Tried to reset my galaxy note 4 from root to factory setting.  Phone goes into a boot loop where screen goes black and then screen flashes with message that it’s updating the software.  Gets stuck in this loop.  Any way out?  I’m trying to reset phone so I can return it as part of an upgrade program. Thank you.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and microSd card of your phone then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone.  If it still gets stuck in the loop then start your phone in recovery mode. This is a separate environment from the operating system and is also where you can perform a factory reset on your phone.

Note 4 Won’t Turn On After Downloading Update

Problem: Hey can you help Got a message on note 4 saying update I just ignored it and then went to sleep it updated on its own only it didn’t update . Won’t turn on and when it does it’s just the samsung logo then reboots to Samsung logo sometimes it comes on downloading software .. then dose for about 3mins then says error and reboots again . Can’t do factory reset as it won’t let me can’t even get past them screens had it to my network provider and they recommend sending it to Samsung… but I will lose everything on there including my photos videos for evidence at court also my last moments with my son can you recommend anything at all to do? It won’t connect to pc

Solution: You should start the troubleshooting by taking out the battery and microSD card of your phone ( if you have one installed) then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Once this is done reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone. If the issue still occurs then one other thing you can do is to check if you are able to start your phone in Safe Mode. From here you can backup any important data that you have from your phone. Once the backup is done you can then proceed with a factory reset which is highly recommended in this case.

If you are unable to access Safe Mode then one last thing you can do is to start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. This will delete the temporary system data which could be causing this issue. Restart your phone after this then check the phone will not turn on.

Note 4 Slows Down After Installing Software Update

Problem: Hi, I’ve just installed the new update and it’s just slowed down everything.  I’ve tried to update my apps and it’s updated a few btu with a lot of them just gives me an error message to say unable to download. I’ve cleared the Cache and have restarted the phone including taking out the battery . I’ve also done the steps of switching of the phone and pressing on the volume down key. Home key and power key. I’ve been receiving a lot more pop ups. Frozen phone. Battery drainage. Slow WiFi even though I connect my WiFi via my home network Internet.  Phone also gets really hot.  Also when restarting up the phone it takes a lot longer to come back on. This is so frustrating as I really wish I didn’t even install this update. Also I have yahoo installed as my main email and it will sometimes show me a notification of an email received but when I do go into the email there isn’t anything there.

Solution: The best thing that you can do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset as it seems like the issue is caused by old software data that has not been completely removed during the update. This old data causes a conflict with the new software version resulting in these issues.

Note 4 Error 405 When Downloading Marshmallow Update

Problem: I tried to update my operating system to Marshmallow, my husband has the same phone and had no problems. It shows that everything downloads just fine, but when it shuts down and shows the little green Droid guy, it updates for about 30 seconds, then says error, update failed. And it gives the error code 405.I tried multiple times, even cleared the cache, but nothing seems to help. Any advice? I would really appreciate your help! Thank you for your time and help!

Solution: Try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete try doing the update again. If the issue remains then try using Kies to update your device.

Note 4 No New Software Update Available

Problem: Hi i just bought my galaxy note 4 for sprint on craigslist. I haven’t even installed anything from play store as the first thing i want to do is upgrade to the latest android firmware. I’m a complete rookie when it comes to this so please bare with me. I’ve tried manually updating by go to software update but it keeps telling me the latest updates have already been installed when that’s not true at all considering i’m on 4.4.4, and my last phone (galaxy s5) was running marshmallow. Is there a way i can manually force the update?

Solution: If the phone has been rooted or is running on a custom software then it won’t be able to get the official update. If the phone software has not been modified in anyway then it should be able to detect that an update is available. Try backing up your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done check for the update. If no update is still available then try updating your phone using Kies.

If the above steps fail to update the phone software then you should consider manually flashing your device. You will need the latest version of Odin as well as the latest stock firmware file of your phone. Instructions on how to perform this procedure can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Stopping Software Update Notification

Problem: Honestly, I just want to stop the update. Every day I select NO when the phone asks me to update as it has downloaded the marshmallow update. Well I would just like to stop going through this ritual every day. Is there a way to stop the software update notification?

Solution: Try going to Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services then uncheck the option for show notifications. If you are still getting software update notifications after this then you will need to root your device to stop these notifications.
