Note 4 Reboots On Its Own

Problem: My Galaxy Note 4, started rebooting on its own. It started right after a recent upgrade. I than performed some suggested responses to this problem. Holding all 3 buttons down, removing the battery, etc…All of which worked but only temporarily. before it started doing the same thing again. Now It has been on charge for days and it will not even come on. So i recently purchased a new battery and i currently have it on charge. However i do not see any results from this as of yet.I am at a lost at this point. I have no idea what has happened to my most reliable device! it is my sincere hope that you can help me.

Solution: Since this issue occured right after a software update then it’s very likely caused by old software data that was not completely removed during the update. This data is now causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. To fix this problem I recommend that you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet but instead check first if the issue still occurs.

If you are still having the same issue even after the reset then try removing the microSD card of your phone ( if one is installed). Sometimes if the card is corrupted the phone will reboot on its own.One last troubleshootign step that you should also consider if the issue persists is to flash the phnoe with the latest stock firmware. Instructions on how to flash your device can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.

Note 4 Temporarily Stuck On Boot Screen

Problem: I plug my phone in for the night and go to sleep. I normally wake up at some point in the night and unplug my phone if it’s at 100%. Lately I have noticed though when I go to unplug the phone it is stuck on my carriers start screen (Verizon) after the Samsung Galaxy note 4 screen. There is also a blue light at the top flashing like when I get a notification. I normally unplug the phone and it stays stuck on that screen for a couple minutes and then it goes away and starts up like normal. I am not sure if its because its charging for a long time or just because it’s at night? Lol

Solution: It’s possible that this is just a software related problem. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that are recommended for this type of issue. After performing a step immediately check if the issue still occurs. If it does then move to the next step.

  • Try wiping the cache partition of the phone first from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary system data that might be causing this problem.
  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the problem doesn’t occur in this mode then it is most likely caused by a third party app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Constantly Getting Hot

Problem: My note 4 is constantly getting extremely hot even when in my pocket, it’s constantly slow turns itself off mostly i have to remove battery to turn it back on constantly going into reboot mode which it stays on no matter how long I leave it so I have to remove the battery and now it also has a bad screen burn when on a empty white page you can still see the keys burnt onto the screen I have tried everything.

Solution: If the phone gets extremely hot then this is a potentially dangerous issue as your hand might get burned by the device. Since the phone lags and has a bad screen the best troubleshooting step that you can do right now that addresses all issues is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset has completed do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check if the issue still occurs. If the phone is still hot try using a different battery and take out the microSD card if you have one installed. If any of the issues still persist then this is already a hardware related problem possibly caused by some faulty internal component. I recommend that you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

Note 4 Will Not Charge

Problem: Hi, my Samsung galaxy note 4 will not charge. I bought a new battery and still does the same thing (my charger works with other appliances and other chargers don’t work). The only time I get any reaction is if the phone is shut down, there is a pulsing sound, the red charging light comes on intermittently, but it doesn’t charge. So, that tells me the port is ok. The phone, when turned on, asks me to conect charger even when it is connected. It would be great if you could help, thank you

Solution: Whenever the phone does not charge the first thing you should do is to make sure that the charging port is clean. Use a can of compressed air or blow into the port using a straw. Make sure that any dirt or debris gets taken out in the process. Try to check if the phone charges. If it doesn’t then do the following steps listed below.

  • Use a different charging cord when charging your phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. After the reset do not install any app just yet. Try to check first if the phone charges.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then the phone might have a damaged charging port or a faulty daughter board. I recommend that you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked if this is the case.

Note 4 Keeps Powering Down

Problem: My Note 4 keeps powering down and won’t restart even when there is sufficient battery charge. Soft reset doesn’t hèlp. I keep a spare battery charged up and using this works. This is a new problem since upgrading to Android 6.0.1.

Solution: If the issue doesn’t occur when you use your spare battery then the main battery might be faulty already. I recommend that you retire your main battery.

If however the issue occurs even with the spare battery then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the issue still occur.

  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This is  highly recommended step that needs to be done since you mentioned that the issue occured right after the software upgrade.

Note 4 Turns Off All By Itself

Problem: The phone turns off all by itself, and won’t power back up until the battery is removed then reinstalled, or a charger is plugged in. This happens even if the battery is 70-80% charged.

Solution: There are two things that you need to check in this kind of issue. First, check if the phone software is causing this problem by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your device yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed to the second step which is to check if the battery is causing this issue. Get a new battery and see if this fixes the problem.

Note 4 Is Unresponsive

Problem: I was using my galaxy note 4 on instagram for roughly 30-40 minutes and then suddenly my note completely shut off and is not responsive. No lights show nor screen powers on just black screen and unresponsive. Any suggestions? (Battery does have charge)

Solution: The phone battery might be completely drained. Try taking out the battery and microSD card first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery then charge the phone for around 20 minutes. Check if the phone turns on. If it doesn’t then try using a new battery on your phone.

If the above steps fail to fix the issue then bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
