S5 Keeps On Restarting
Problem: This is a puzzling issue to me. So originally, whenever I opened up Snapchat, my phone would immediately restart and enter a perpetual cycle of restarting. This could only be stopped by the phone running out of power after a while of restarting or me plugging it in. Now though, as of this night, my phone will enter this perpetual restart cycle if I open up any app, even if it is already open in the background. Still the only solution is plugging it in. My phone just passed 2 years old and has always had a LifeProof case on it so I doubt it is any sort of water damage. At this point I have soft restarted, turned on and off, and uninstalled my most recently downloaded app, Pokémon GO, to see if it would fix the issue. Please let me know if you have any solutions, thank you.
Solution: Since this issue occurs whenever you open any app the first thing that you should do is to check if this is an app related problem. Start your phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Apps you downloaded will be disabled. Now, try to check if the issue occurs while your phone is in this mode. If it doesn’t occur then this might be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
In case the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary system data that is stored in your phone. Restart your phone then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S5 Screen Will Not Turn On
Problem: My s5 has been working fine all day, and after having it safely in my pocket, it having zero contact with water or no recent hard falls, i go to check it and my screen will not turn on. I press the power button and hold, no response. I go and plug it in and the fully charged logo that shows when powered off continuously blinks every other second, whilst my phone lets out a single vibration as the screen blinks. From here i can turn my phone on, yet after 10-20 secs my phone goes black, and if i remove the charger at any point, the phone becomes unresponsive. I’ve taken the battery out, I’ve booted in safe and recovery modes, I’ve cleared the cache, and factory reset. Any advice before i drop almost $1000 for a new phone?
Solution: You can try replacing the phone battery with a new one or if you have a spare battery around you can try to use it. This allows us to check if the battery is causing this issue. If the problem still remains then this is very likely a hardware issue already. I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
S5 Freezes Restarts
Problem: My phone started acting up recently, it started yesterday when my phone froze and automatically restarted. Which is normal for my phone I guess. So I carried on using it as I normally do, but then a green, glitchy, line about 1/4 of an inch thick appeared and it froze again. It wouldn’t restart until I took the battery out and put it back in. Now I can’t get it to turn on for 30 seconds without it freezing and having that green bar appear. Last night I took my battery out of my phone and let it chill all night, but the same problem is occurring. I haven’t been able to use my phone since. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Solution: You should start the troubleshooting by starting the phone in recovery mode. If the phone turns off while trying to start it in recovery mode then you should check if connecting it to its charger helps. Once the phone is in this mode I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first before performing this step. If after the reset the same issue occurs then you should have this checked at a service center since this could be a hardware problem already.
S5 Randomly Shuts Down After Update
Problem: After I updated my Samsung Galaxy S5 my device just shuts down. I was in the middle of typing a text and the device shut down. This has happened on several occasions and only after the update. Thank you.
Solution: This issue might be caused by some old software data that has been left behind during the update process. I recommend you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to get rid of this old data.
Another factor that can cause the phone to shut down randomly is a faulty battery. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should try using a new battery on your phone.
S5 Does Not Turn On Unless Connected to Charger
Problem: my phone keeps turning off then back on, it won’t go past the Samsung logo. I removed the battery and reset it but it’s still doing the same thing. if I plug my phone into the charger it will turn on and work without issues but the second I unplug my phone it turns off again. the battery says it’s charged 94%
Solution: Sometimes this issue can be caused by a faulty or weak battery. Try replacing your battery with a new one and see if the problem still occurs. If it does then the next thing you should check is if a glitch in the phone software is causing this. I recommend you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
Should the above troubleshooting steps fail you have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked as this might already be a hardware problem.
S5 Stuck In T-Mobile Screen
Problem: Phone is stuck on the t-mobile screen when turning on. Tried a soft reset, wiped data cache, factory reset, ect. Nothing works. This happened a couple days ago and somehow it turned on normally after hours of random tinkering. Nothing worked this time. Thank you for your help.
Solution: Does your phone have a microSD card installed? Try removing it then check if the problem still occurs. You should also check if the issue occurs when your phone is connected to the wall charger. If it doesn’t occur while connected to the charger then try replacing the phone battery.
To check if the phone software has been corrupted and is causing this issue you need to do a factory reset from recovery mode.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should consider flashing your phone with its stock firmware. Instructions on how to do this can be found at several of the popular Android forums online.
