Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Turns Off By Itself Issue & Other Related Problems

Note 4 Turns Off By Itself

Problem: Hello, about two months ago, I updated my note 4. After the update my phone started glitching. It would turn off by itself, freeze the screen for 5 minutes, then restart itself again. Sometimes I would restart 10 times in a hour. One day I came across a forum the suggested a factory reset. I did the factory reset and everything went back to normal. But problem came back again last week, and now my phone won’t turn on. I have tried everything on your troubleshooting steps, and still nothing. I have a upgrade in October, and this is the only phone I have until then. Please help!

Solution: One possible reason why this issue is happening is because of an app you installed in your phone. This is very lilley since you mentioned that when you previously did a factory reset the issue disappeared. However, right now you are unable to turn on your phone. This could be caused by several factors such as the battery not providing power to the phone, a software issue, or even a hardware issue.

Try replacing the phone battery first with a new one then check if your phone starts. If it doesn’t turn on then charge your phone for at least 20 minutes. Before charging the phone make sure to do the steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Your aim is to take out any dirt or debris that could be present in this port.
  • Use a different charging cord when charging the phone ( you should also try to use a different wall charger).

Check if you are able to turn on your phone. You should also check if the phone turns on in recovery mode. If the phone turns on in this mode then I suggest you do a factory reset from here. Take note that this will delete your phone data.

If the above steps fails to resolve the issue then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Shuts Off Won’t Turn Back On

Problem: My Note 4 started shutting off all of a sudden and it won’t turn back on, it’ll just keep turning on where it says “Samsung Galaxy note 4” and then the screen will go black. It will turn off a couple seconds after I disconnect the charger, this has been happening for 2 days now and it was only in the afternoon when I was taking a phone call that it did not shut down on me but a minute after that it turned back off. I tried taking out the battery and waiting to put it back in and turning it on again but it keeps happening. It just stays on when it’s connected to the charger. I’ve had this phone for about 3/4ish months now and the only times it happened was 2 times after I got the phone but it was fine after I took the battery out. Hope you guys can help! Thanks!

Solution: If the phone will not turn off if the charger is connected then the first thing you should suspect is that the battery might already be faulty. I suggest you try to get a new battery first then see if the issue still occurs.

If it does then the next step is to check if the phone software is causing this by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. Once the reset is done do not install anything in your phone yet. Check first if the issue still occurs.

If the above steps fail to fix the problem then you should bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.

Note 4 Battery Draining

Problem: For the last month, my phone has had the battery draining issues as described by others, going from 100% to about 40 normally then shutting off at about 40. After the latest update, installed about 5 days ago, I noticed delays in pulling up just about everything.  Also delays in typing and loading. Now the phone has completely shut off and there are no “lights on” anywhere.  I checked the battery and it is fully charged.

Solution: For this type of issue you need to check if the battery is causing the problem by connecting the phone to its charger then see if it turns on. If it turns on then you should try using a new battery on your phone.

If the issue still occurs even when the phone is connected to the charger then try removing the battery and microSD card ( if one is installed). Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out the RAM. Reinsert just the battery then turn on your phone.

If the above steps fail then you should have your phone checked at a service center.

Note 4 Turns Off After Marshmallow Update

Problem: Hi, My phone suddenly goes off even though the battery still has around 30% of charge. It started happening after I got Marshmallow update. Today I went off and it automatically tried to restart, but it never came back. It was going on and off over and over. So, I removed battery kept aside for few minutes and then tried, but no luck. I charged phone and it works fine. Thanks in advance.

Solution: If this issue occured right after the Marshmallow update then it could be caused by some old software data that got left behind. This data is causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. I suggest you backup your phone data first then do a factory reset. This will delete the old software data in your phone. Once the reset is done check if the problem still occurs.

Note 4 Does Not Turn On

Problem: the note 4 works flawlessly when on. the problem is turning it on. it doesn’t want to turn on at all. i bought a new battery for it. my third to be exact. but the phone won’t boot up. it is completely stock. if it’s plugged all night it will stay on all night because of the setting. as soon as i turn it off to restart it ..again it wont start. as if there’s no power. it wont even charge. i can’t get it to go on download mode, safe mode, or even recovery. once in awhile when it does start my kies will recognize it. but it is very seldom. i tried factory resetting it. it wipes clean but then it wont start. as soon as i pull the battery i’m looking at another day without a phone. can you help? i even called tmobile and all they gave me was smart switch app link.

Solution: Since you already tried different batteries in your phone and even performed a factory reset which didn’t fix the problem then I suspect that this is caused by an internal component in your phone that is failing. I suggest you have this checked at a service center.

Note 4 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: for about 8 months now, my battery drains quickly.  I have replaced the chargers with original Samsung chargers, purchased a new battery and sd card.  I also deleted many pictures and apps this did not help.  The battery charges very slowly on a rapid charge and hardly at all on car charger.  I love this phone and am very distraught over this as i AM STILL UNDER CONTRACT with Verizon.  I have done everything except a factory reset. Your help is appreciated as I just don’t think I should have to pay any money out of pocket to resolve an issue that is a Samsung problem.  Many customers report this.  I really love my note Samsung.

Solution: One thing you haven’t checked yet is the possibility that an app might be causing the battery drain problem. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone first from the recovery mode. This will erase the temporary data in the phone which could be causing this problem. Proceed with starting the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is operating in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Check if the battery drains quickly while the phone is working in this mode. If you don’t experience the issue then it might be caused by an app you installed. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Regarding the slow charging issue you should try cleaning the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. Try also to use a different charging cord as this might be causing the issue.

Note 4 Slow Charging

Problem: For the past couple of days I’ve had the slow charging issue. The device shows it is plugged into a USB instead of AC or wall charger. This happens with any and all USB cords I’ve tried. I know that when the phone thinks it’s plugged into a USB it will only draw .5 amps due to most computers only being able to put that much out on each port. This also stops the fast charge from happening as well.

Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone. Do this by using a can of compressed air or by blowing to it using a straw. If the issue still occurs then do a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in the phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you bring your phone to a service center and have it checked.
