Today we will tackle one important feature of this phone and that is its Internet connectivity feature. While this phone is equipped with several connectivity options allowing its owner to connect to either Wi-Fi or mobile data there are instances when the phone does not go online. This is what we will tackle today as we address the Galaxy Note 4 Internet is slow and unstable issue & other related problems.

Note 4 Internet Is Slow And Unstable
Problem: The issue I’m having isn’t really recent, it’s kind of been coming and going since I got my note 4 and I’m not really sure what the cause is. The connectivity is incredibly slow and unstable, randomly dis- and reconnecting and I’ve never been able to really rely on what my phone says my connection is. It will show full reception bars and 4G but I still struggle to use apps with Internet and at this point, send simple text messages. I thought the issue was my home WiFi because my router is in a weird spot but it’s now happening elsewhere; my phone says it is connected to WiFi or 4G and I still can’t use apps like Pandora or Twitter and get a pretty much constant gray bubble message at the bottom of my screen telling me to “check my Internet connectivity and try again” when I’m supposedly connected.
Solution: Does this problem occur when your phone is connected to Wi-fi and 4G mobile data?
If the issue only occurs when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi here’s what you need to do. Check if the problem still occurs after performing each step then move to the next step if it does.
- Turn off your phone’s mobile data switch.
- Forget the Wi-Fi connection from your phone then restart both the phone and your home router. Connect to your Wi-Fi network once both devices have fully started.
- Try to start the phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it might be caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the issue occurs when your phone is connected to your 4G mobile data subscription then perform the following steps listed below. Check if the problem still occurs after performing each step then move to the next step if it does.
- Go to a different location and check if the issue occurs there. This is to check if the issue is coverage related.
- Check the APN settings of your phone. Compare this to what your carrier is using . Make the necessary APN setting changes in your phone if needed.
If the issue occurs when your phone is connected to either Wi-Fi or mobile data then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 Can’t Access The Internet After Marshmallow Update
Problem: after updating to marshmallow I can no longer access the internet through the web browser. I have tried both Wi-Fi and data through the tmobile network. I have already taken out my battery and waited several minutes before restarting.
Solution: Since this issue occurs on Wi-Fi and mobile data and it happened after a software update then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset. This is a highly recommended procedure that needs to be done whenever issues occur after an update. What the reset does is it deletes any old software data that has not been removed during the update process. This old data causes issues with the device since it conflicts with the new software.
Note 4 Can’t Use Mobile Data
Problem: I purchased an unlocked Verizon Samsung galaxy note 4 to use on my current carrier At&t network. Everything seems to work just fine but I am unable to to use data. It’s like I don’t have data at all no icon pops up so I am unable to send photo messages or use anything that needs internet unless I am in WiFi. Now I have a data plan but its not connecting with the phone. Now I have gone into mobile networks in settings and changed the network mode from global to lte\gsm\umts and selected network operators to at&t still nothing. And under access point names it shows lte-Verizon internet but it’s dimmed out as not an option to select. I hope you are able to help me and that I hear from you soon. I am trying to figure out if its something I can fix or if I need to send it back to seller within the 30 day return that I have. Though I’d really like to not have to return it.
Solution: The reason why your phone is not able to connect to the Internet using a mobile data subscription is because the APN settings are still set to Verizon. Since the APN setting is dimmed out then there’s no way to edit this. Try to check if you are able to add another APN setting in your phone. If you can add an APN setting then add the AT&T APN setting which is listed below.

If you are unable to add an APN then try to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done do the same steps listed above again.
Note 4 Mobile Data Slow After Marshmallow Update
Problem: Ever since I updated to marshmallow, my phone’s data has been extremely slow or not work at all, for example, when I go to Facebook messenger I get the “no connection” bar above all my messages or if I’m lucky I get “connecting” it usually takes about 5-10 minutes to connect. Another example is when I use my Google Maps every minute my GPS signal gets lost and it takes an average of 3 minutes to find my GPS signal. I have unlimited data and this was not a problem prior to the update. I don’t know what to do or how to fix this issue. Please help.
Solution: Have you tried updating the apps of your phone? Your might not be optimized to work with Marshmallow so you need to update them. If your apps are already updated and the issue still occurs then do the following steps listed below.
- Start the phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition. Check if the issue still occurs.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
Note 4 4G Mobile Data Not Working
Problem: 4G LTE no longer functions on phone, worked fine for about 6 months (same carrier, same location, same phone, etc.) Will sometimes work for approx. 2 minutes after sitting powered off for a few hours but then drops 4G as evidenced by 4G icon disappearing and no mobile data functions. Tried several new SIM cards, had AT&T look at it several times. Tried new SIM card reader, cleared system cache, did factory reset. Still no go. Very frustrating as I didn’t buy phone from AT&T so they won’t replace and say that it must be a problem with the phone itself. Searched internet for solutions, but haven’t seen this exact problem listed anywhere. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Phone is in perfect condition otherwise so I hate to just scrap it (can’t sell it with this problem either). Thanks.
Solution: Since you already did a factory reset and even changed SIM cards then the issue might already be hardware related possible due to a problem with the antenna or mobile data chip. I suggest you have this checked at a service center.
